Not that hunt but my kid drew a unit 7 Mule deer youth tag for Oct 10th. He has never taken a buck yet so it will be a super fun hunt for him. Any info anyone could pass along would be appreciated.

Anyone want to camp together in 35A for December Hunt?
schmalts replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I slept in my rental at Parker lake. I also drove to the border patrol HQ and slept in the vehicle in the rest area right next door. I was alone most of the time and did not feel too safe being my myself out there in December, one the the mos active months -
What a great desert buck!

I fly into PHX Wednesday evening for a Muzz elk hunt. I cannot take any powder on the flight and I need to find Blackhorn 209 if possible. I called sportsman warehouse in PHX and they do not carry it he said. Anyone have a source?? Thanks in advance. I would hate to have to go re-dial in my gun before the hunt for a different powder, but if that is what it comes down to that is what I will do. I would be interested in paying an inflated price for a half can if someone has a bit left. PM me if you have any info. Pat

So i never hunted Coues before. I always opted for Mule deer instead when I hunt AZ. This year I decided to see what all the hype is about these little deer and try it. I drew a 36A DEC hunt. I only have 4 or 5 days to hunt, so I am coming out the 26th and staying until new years. I see them when I hunt Mule deer but I usually am pretty low for those deer and still I see some Coues mixed in. So, here is the question... Should I go up higher for this hunt in this unit? BTW, i have not spent a lot of time in 36A, more time I have spent closer to the border in the lower part of the BA wildlife area. Any advice welcome.. BTW, what is the illegal traffic like in 36A?

Got this buck with the muzzle loader in southern AZ. not too bad of a buck and the best one I saw in 6 days of hunting. Not as many MD as there used to be down there I guess, even went one day with even seeing a doe but was never short on coues deer sightings. Thanks to all that gave me some pointers, especially Simon (azbownunter22) on where deer may be seen. I guess a guy gets lucky sometimes as this deer was nowhere anyone pointed me to, but found him while scouting out some new interesting looking terrain and kind of just fell into him I guess. I wish I could make up a cool story about a grueling stalk and all but it was one of those right place at the right time gigs from being persistant. Made a bragging shot though! 125 yards on a dead run and dropped him! anyway, here are some pictures from the hunt.

Cool. I had a run in with a big one this year in MT. Did not kill him, just teased him for a while and took some video. Click the picture to see the video

that is awsome. I have only seen 2 in the wild but never had a tag.

I am gearing up for my hunt between Xmas and new year with the muzz tag. I managed to get down there last week for a family vacation (I live in WI) and did a cache of powder and primers to pick up Xmas day after I fly in. I drove through Sonoita down to Parker lake, then through Montazuma pass but did not see any deer, nor did I look too hard (wife would have killed me) If any of you Coues Hunters see some nice mule deer and are willing to share any info it would be a great help. If any of you are also camping down in that area and would not mind having someone park a rental near your camp to sleep a little more easy in a group, please give me a shout as I will be alone the majority of the hunt and am a little uneasy about illegal activity at night. Thanks, Pat 262-388-2809

I did not read all 22 pages but I read the first and will say this.. You guys are better off without baiting in the long run. Trust me, baiting only ends up in bad ways in the long run. You will have private property owners baiting and a good mass majority of deer will never come off that land. You will get deer becoming more nocturnal, and deer not moving as much in day hours because they have full bellies and do not need to move and forage as much as they normally would have to. Baiting is alowed in WI and trust me, we would be better off without it as it leads to waaay to much illegal activity as well. guys are dumping truck loads of feed out there because they do not live near the hunting spot and that makes deer nocturnal as well. -
cool to see you get the old man some payback time! congrats

Looks like a great year, are you done??

I hate full moon hunting. I know that in my neck of the woods the full moon will make them rut hard, but it is all done in the moonlight.
