How many are hunting the Nov. 36A whitetail hunt
schmalts replied to AzTrapper's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have the December Muzz hunt, and looking mostly for Mule deer. I am not sure where to camp as I will be solo for the most part. Guys have told me the campground near the lake is the safest. Anyone have any opinion? -
Got this one in MT last week. Went mostly for Elk but the weather was brutal for them as you can see.
-
It was a little spot and stalk, and a little bit of decoy
-
shot this one a couple wekends ago in NM. Not real tall but great mass.

to tell you the truth I do not know. You get assigned a ranch and that is all I worried about.

Yep, A house. This is my neighbors house on the edge of the woods of his 120 acre "yard". The cam is on an apple tree at the edge of his yard and every year the bucks show up and eat some wind falls. Seen to vanish a couple weeks later

Here is a few from my deercams in Wisconsin

Use what ever you are most confident and accurate with. Shot placement is #1

I am flying into Tucson christmas day for my Muzz hunt in 35A-B. I cannot take powder or primers on the plane. I want to hunt on the morning of the 26th, so is there a wal-mart that is open 24hours that sells pyrodex pellets and primers?? Any help would be great. Pat

I will get with you guys closer to December. We will hash something out then. Thanks for all the offers, it is good to know I have this problem out of my head.

I drew the december muzz hunt for 35A-B for any deer. I know this is a couse site but I am sure you guys have seen plenty of carp deer out there as well, and that is what I am gunning for. I have spent some time in 34 and know that unit fairly well and would trade some info if you want for coues-muley. I know nothing much about 35 but hunted real close to the edge of the unit near the border around Patagonia. How would you guys hunt with this tag?? just as a coues and mostly spot? If anyone would like to tag along on this hunt and video the hunt, help spot, fend off illegals.... I would love the company down in that area. I will be hunting there between Xmas and new years eve. Would you guys recommend taking a side arm?? How safe would it be to solo camp there? I have not hunted down there in over a decade so things are probably a lot different these days. Feel free to PM me if you wish. Pat

December 35A-B muzz hunt help?
schmalts replied to schmalts's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I would smoke a whopper coues, but it would have to be a much better quality deer than the standard of Mulies that I am seeing. If I had to choose between a 105 inch couse and a 170 Muley... Muley for me. Don't get me wrong, I will take a couse but my first choice is a carp deer for personal preference. As far as posting a picture, I will for sure as it will be one I am proude of since it will be my first Muzz buck. But I am going to at least try and use my best judging skills and take a good deer or nothing. Is it un-realistic to set my goal at a 170"+ buck down there?? Like I said, I have not hunted the border area for well over a decade now and have no clue how much has changed with animals. -
You may not have had a problem, but it was illegal. Loose powder is considered an explosive. Snapshot, I really appreciate the offer, I will have to touch base with you on the phone sometime soon and arrange the shipping of the stuff if it comes to that. This will help out big time and get me hunting the morning after Christmas. Pat

Hmmm, that does suck. I will have to figure out something somehow. Maybe I can find someone that I can send a small amount of pellets and primers to and they can do a stash someplace for me, but where and who? anyone up for putting out a geocache? LOL
-
I would guess over 380 easy. Long on all points and beams
-
The 2 blade are the way to go. I made massive holes in 2 deer last year with them and they still passed through with no trouble and no loss of blades. I have heard of some 3 blade trouble and a recall on earlier 3 bladers

Looking for a new ML scope
schmalts replied to Sundevils79's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
ditto on the nikon Omega. I never knew how accurate my Omega was until I scoped it. I can put 5 out of 5 in a paper plate 200+ yards with that system -
What rifle are you taking on your elk hunt?
schmalts replied to Stray Horse's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sako 85 finnlite in 300WSM will be my go to elk rifle this year. -
do not overlook the RL15 powder as well
