I haven't been since 2009, and I'm not sure I'd go there several days if you really wanna get into the fish...I felt like the river's fish population was in decline, and that was before the Wallow Fire blew it out. That being said, it's epic country and you will have fun regardless of the fishing. If you spend several days on the river chances are HIGH you will encounter a black bear. I've never been there and not ran into one, or had one wander through my camp. Please be prepared for that if you go. I concur with the lure suggestions and might add small black or gold spinners (Mepps, Panther Martins) can also be productive, especially if you fish holes that might also hold browns and rainbows. No clue what their status is on the river anymore. RCD's advice about worms is good. Taking 5 minutes to catch a few dozen hoppers on the way in (usually they are out in great numbers before you climb up to Point of Pines) is also a good way to catch fish if you aren't opposed to using bait. Along with what RCD said, I rented a boat few years ago on Lee's Ferry and man it was cool. Another backpack/fish trip I have always wanted to take is East Clear Creek...

Buy a quad Weights/jogging/biking etc. are all good for you, but I think hitting the hills with a light to heavy pack and putting miles on your boots is the best thing you can do, especially if you can gain some altitude along the way. Working elk all day at higher elevation can be a killer for flatlanders if we don't prepare accordingly. Here is tucson that's not always an easy option to hike (especially since dogs are restricted from all of the local trailheads), so I often put on a pack and walk the sand in the Rilito River bottom with my dog. When I lived in PHX I was about 8 minutes from Squaw Peak and ran those trails 3-4 times a week. As others have also mentioned, once you are 30+ years of age your diet is also a critical component of conditioning.

Federal Firearms License Holder
Siwash replied to couesbowhunter1's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Not sure if he still works out of Lippert's in Tucson, but not too long ago a man named Julio was an FFL there and would probably help you out if you call the shop. -
Right now I'm shooting a vintage Maverick Haven't looked hard at their new line-up but Darton makes a nice bow and they usually meet or exceed their IBO, which seems to be rarity these days. K&L is definitely a good place to go shoot the latest greatest if you want to try one out.

Flown to Pacific NW via Southwest Air with a 5' rod tub several times and never had an issue...are you flying with a one piece that's 9' or something?

If you have time to explore Oak Creek it is a challenging and beautiful fishery. I haven't looked at the flows lately but I'd imagine last week's storm runoff has mostly pushed down and it's probably clear and very fishable. Rainbows range from dinks to 14" and there are some legit browns to be had if you put your time in. Weekdays you'll have most the creek to your self...once it gets really hot it's not that the creek is unfishable but pressure from swimmers etc. make weekends better spent somewhere else.

Looking for a used Leupy 6x (M8?) or decent 2-7X scope for a lever gun. If you have decent one laying around Tucson please let me know. Budget is $100-200 depending on make and condition. Thanks.

Stopped by the El Con Wall World looking for some drop shot fishing hooks, shelves BARE, but they did have about 10 packs of RAGE 100 grain broadheads for $30/3 plus the practice head.

Hydro dipping need for rifle stock
Siwash replied to Shedhunteraz's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Rob Luft in Tucson does a good job. His website doesn't showcase it well at all but he did a nice job on a Ruger stock for me. http://www.firearmsaccessorydepot.com/pages/hydro-dipping -
Up for sale is a 4 piece 4wt Graphite Lamisglas "Certified Pro" Fly Rod. Fast action, 9' Made in the U.S.A. Comes with sexy flannel sock and rod tube, good used condition, cork good, guides good. Caught a few fish on it. Plays more like a 6 wt and was designed for swinging and casting heavy flies...would be a great rod for Smallys or LMB. Lamisglas is a quality rod company out of Woodland, WA: http://www.lamiglas.com/ $100 in Tucson, or trade for equal value of 20 gauge birdshot #8 or 7.5

Good luck with the project. With the Timney and a good optic/mount you are almost there. That's all I have on my 700 ADL plus some elbow grease with 220 grit sand paper, a $5 rattle can of paint and a bedding kit from Brownell's. Another CWT member was kind enough to help me bed this one and I gave it a few coats of Krylon brown after I floated the barrel. I never take this rifle to the range without at least one person asking where I got the stock. The rifle (.243) is a sub-moa shooter with handloads.

What do you want to use the spotting scope for? If it's for judging racks put the $$$ towards a quality pair of 15x optics, or keep saving for a high end spotter. At $500 you are going to get a heavy piece of equipment that doesn't do a lot for you that quality 15x won't in terms of really breaking down an animal at any great distance... All that said at your price point I'd look for a used Nikon ED50. It's light, compact and offers great optics for the $$$...if you are pairing it with 10x it's great, but if you are carrying it with 15x binos it might end up being an annoyance in your pack.

Equal value low profile casting reel or bass tackle would interest me. Or 3# of RL22 I fished it at Lee's Ferry a few years ago and lost a 20+" at my feet just above the Paria. 6x dropper midge gave up on some rocks...

I have a case of Remington 20 gauge shotgun shells. 2/34" shells in #6 shot. High brass shells stamped "Remington & Peters." Not sure of true era, but they were in a friend's climate controlled closet for the last decade. 10 boxes/250 rounds/$50 or trade for 1k rounds of .22LR in Tucson.
