  1. Shoot 3D as much as you can...it pays off quite a bit when you are hunting. I usually go for ten yard increments and add from there, arrive at a distance, then work backwards from my target to me using different references. Don't restrict these exercises to when you have a bow in your hand, you can guess yardage anytime you are outside and pace off the distance after you make an estimate. This keeps your mind and eye focused year round.

    Oak Creek?

Outside of the high flows right now, if you are thinking of fishing it in the canyon I'm not sure O.C. has completely recovered from the run-off due to the fire in the summer of 2013. My family has a small place in the canyon and in my last two trips in late fall/early winter yielded one fish on each trip, both trout went into shock the minute they were hooked and did not recover even though they were immediately released and not removed from the water. I stopped fishing after each catch and I do not think I will fish it again this year. Other angler experiences on the creek have been more favorable of late, but that's been my experience. If you have a few days and want to get into trout I'd try Lee's Ferry or Silver Creek. If you got Silver Creek I'd fish it for a day and then swing around and hit Chevelon from the north, if you guys have float tubes or a portable watercraft.

    Meatgrinders

I recently took this LEM grinder in trade: http://www.lemproducts.com/product/mighty-bite-8-grinder/butcher-meat-grinders I got about 19# of grind (@20% pork fat) from a sow javelina and made several italian sausages and some chorizo. Not including the meat prep, the grind time took like 10 minutes tops. Really pleased with the set up and it made the job fun and easy. Previously I used the grinder attachment you can purchase for a Kitchen Aide mixer...it worked but it was pretty slow and made the job a hassle so like a few other I ended up taking meat I had butchered off my animals and having a butcher grind it. Looking forward to doing it all on my own from here on out.
  5. Cool rifle, I just killed a pig with mine on Saturday. Mine shoots about .75" groups @ 100 yards with handloads off a bench. Good luck with the sale.

    Plant ID

Wish I would have taken a more detailed pic, but see attached for the 2-4' high scrub plant that is found thick intermixed with Manzanita south of the Mogollon Rim. It has light green leaves that are about 1x.5" with multiple sharp points. Noticed it most prominent on mesas and on ridge slopes, probably 5,500-6,500' in elevation. Anyone know what it's called?

    Plant ID

This picture makes it look nice and friendly, and it isn't, but I think you got it: http://www.nazflora.org/Ceanothus_greggii.htm Thanks, and I actually took a spike, my friend took the raghorn and I got to help him pack it out, antlers down, because it was so thick with cedars, manzy and everything else that I never would have made with them up, at least not without getting hung up every 5 feet.

Thanks, looked at both of those and believe it is something else, a few of the shrubs did have dried fruit that almost resembled blueberries.

What is your Go-To round for Elk?

I shoot 140 gr AB's with 53 grains of W760 in my Tikka T3 and it's sub-moa , but my rifle chrono'd at 2,985 fps. I use the set up for Coues but wouldn't hesitate to take that rifle elk hunting either.

What is your Go-To round for Elk?

I'll be taking a .300WSM shooting 165gr Nosler Accubond's over 62.5gr of IMR4350 in less than two weeks. I and other family members have also killed elk with a .308 and 150gr Barnes TSX handloads too.
  21. I have a Kelty camo hunting backpack for sale. I don't know exact capacity but it is at least 3,000 cubic inches of space, probably closer to 4,000 and has a removable "brain" that can double as a fanny pack, a blaze orange rain fly, an internal pouch for a h20 bladder, two large side pouches that could hold optics, and a hybrid internal aluminum frame for packing out heavy weight. It's well made with good zippers and has been used to pack out javelina, coues, and a friend even borrowed it on Kodiak grizzly hunt. $60 in Tucson
