KODIAK Brown Bear VIDEO
Rombo replied to chase_christopher's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Not to hijack the thread, but in response to Kidso's response... I used a call on this bear on Kodiak. Call was extremely effective and we had multiple bears respond to the calls over two days of calling... .458 Lott worked nicely on called in Browny at close range!- 11 replies

Best call of all is silence. Once you have his attention, shut up and sit tight. He will eventually come looking for you. In the natural world, the hens go to the gobblers when it is that special time. Create your own little special time by sitting quietly and waiting on your suitor...

Goulds peak much later than Merriams. In Chihuahua, best time to hunt is mid-may. No matter when you hunt Goulds, they will gobble. I watched two have a bad day this past weekend with friends and yesterday with another they were going bonkers (too bad hunter was slow to the punch on the multiple opportunities). Gobble gobble I have had Goulds gobble every month of the year but they will be hitting it hard until early June

The later part of the hunt is the best time to be in the woods... No hunters and when the hens go to the nest, all the remaining gobblers will be looking for love. Be patient, use decoys, and be prepared for what might be a silent approach....

Lookout Tower at Reno Lookout on the 25 road has good service if you climb the stairs.

Turkeys must pay for their sins in New Mexico this weekend... I will be there for the 25th year in a row!!

Good stuff! Love seeing the kids out enjoying what the spring has to offer! Love this time of year!!

Actually, the last bird is a Merriam's and you are not the first person to ask me! This is the whitest Merriam's I have ever taken. Well north of Reserve, so no chance at a Gould's.

Well it was crazy weather week in New Mexico for the opener. Very high winds and one day of non-stop snow storm... Hunting was fabulous as always. The last photo is my bird that was taken at less than ten feet. Notice the neck and head are only held together by a little skin. The other two birds we called in and harvested on Friday morning... I love New Mexico!

Went and visited my buddy with Dakota Outfitters in Quaker City, Ohio right after Xmas. Took my son for his first deer (in the youth album) and then dad had to shoot one too! Great time! Amazing deer!

Fox and Coyotes were not cutting it any more so I cut to the chase and took my son to Ohio (he just turned seven). Hunted my buddies place (Dakota Outfitters) and my son was able to take his first WT Buck. 150 yard shot with a .243 right through the boiler room. Not a bad first deer w/25 scoreable points and 184" gross.... (Yes! It was high fence, but a great experience for my little guy!)
