Scoutguard trail cams
CouesKilla replied to catclaw's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
A bird flying through will trigger it sometimes, and most cameras are not fast enough to catch a bird in flight. With the high bird activity around your camera, I bet that is what is causing the supposed lifeless photos. -
That is close to being the biggest bear I've laid my eyeballs on in person.

four years in a row! 36b success
CouesKilla replied to out2hunt's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
That is exactly what got me hooked on hunting. When I was 13, I watched my dad down a coues in unit 29 (back when it used to be cold on deer hunts). I thought it was the coolest thing ever, and I've hunted deer every year since. Must be a great feeling for you. -
I see left sides like that all the time.

Any Mule Deer Hunters out there for 08
CouesKilla replied to RAM's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I'll be going after a big muley with my muzzle loader tag in 34a. I will drop a nice coues if it walks in front of me though. -
Not sure about the Madera Canyon area, but I saw some deer on the east side of the mountains (Gardner Canyon) on a quad ride last week. A fork and a spike not far from a waterhole around 10:30.

I've never hunted 6a for anything other then elk. If there are pigs in that unit, know what they eat. Focus on areas with prickly pears and shin daggers. I have seen pigs as high as 5500 in unit 29. If you spot some know that they will be there next time you go back. They are very territorial.

The near buck appears to still have a bit of growing to do (the picture was taken early in the antler growth process). He obviously has good spread. It's very hard to age him from that angle. I want to say the nearer buck is younger then the the buck behind. I know as bucks age they get that roman nose look to them. I'm sure people on this site can give you a much better guess. I'm guessing, if he is still alive and kicking, he is a really nice deer.

I've seen that guy too. He parks in the Public Works Parking Garage everyday. Haven't got a chance to meet him yet.

Precautions in southern units
CouesKilla replied to NativeRat's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I've hunted 29 on and off for the past 15 years and have not seen one illegal. I did have a scary encounter in 30A (due south of 29) once. I would carry a sidearm just to be safe just about anywhere south of I-10. Thanks, I've been wondering. I know that you never know what to expect. What happened in 30A? Just crusin down a dirt road (Big Boss Ranch Road) and see what appears to be another hunter standing outside his truck. Rifle, camo, the works. When we get to within 100 yards he lifts his rifle up at the same time about 12 illegals pop up out of a ditch and pile into his truck. We had a stand off (kind of just staring at eachother) for a minute or so and he then finally jumped in the truck and took off. Scary, to say the least, when you find them armed. One illegal got left behind. We passed by and spotted him in the ditch on our way out. I'm sure he froze his butt off that night. -

Which rifle is best for coues and psossibly elk?
CouesKilla replied to BIGBUGPETE's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
If you want to buy only one gun, get a 30-06 and be done with it. If it has be one of the two you mentioned 7mm without a doubt. -
new pics-- big buck!!
CouesKilla replied to sammacgan's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
He will struggle to clear 90", but I would without a doubt drop the hammer on that nice looking buck. -
I plan on hunting Arizona this year. Y'all are going to have to hunt else where this year. Sorry.

That sign doesn't mean jack s*^t! If there was a number I would surly call, but without a number I would plan on hunting the area with a quick back up plan near by in case someone shows up. I would probablly have torn the sign down if it was me that stumbled upon it. "Littering is unlawful"

#2 seems a little unclear to me. The words "earlier" and "later" refer to earlier or later then what? I assume it's referring to the date of application submittal as being the referance point in time. Let's assume I got drawn for an October deer hunt. One could say I'm going to apply for a November hunt (later season) which would be a valid tag if I do not bag one in my October hunt (earlier season)?????????? Like I said I think they mean earlier then the point in time when the application for the second hunt is being submitted, but they should have that verbiage in the regulations.

Found out I got drawn for muzzle loader hunt in 34A. What seems to be the best hunting muzzle loader on the market keeping cost in mind?

Nothing I hate more then seeing someone else drive a quad upto a spot I've hiked 1.5 miles into. I agree the time you put into a spot is valuable. I would keep hunting it and hopefully you can be in there before that other hunter (i.e. camera fiddling A-hole). Come hunting season, hopefully he will see you and just move on. Good luck! p.s. With regards to the pole, treat someone elses stuff as you would want your stuff treated! Just my take. -
I bought the Triumph. I can't wait to start shooting it. Any info on the best loads to use? Grain bullet, amount of powder? I see they make pre-packed 50 grain powder pellets. I assume you would want to use at least a couple of these....?

I noticed how you refer to the piece of land as "my site". Is it privatly owned property by you? If it's public land why do you believe you have the right to claim it's use? When I scout out a good area and happen to stumble upon a camera I by no means consider it unhuntable area. I would check to make sure I didn't wonder onto private land. Regardless, it's sad to hear that someone had the nerve to mess with your camera (assuming it didn't just malfunction on it's own). Maybe I'll go post a camera in front of TD's Topless Showclub. Does that make the joint mine? JK! -
there is a forum called "hunt swap". I've never been able to confirm if you can do it, but you may be able to swap a tag for a tag with someone.

I think I've narrowed it down to the TC Omega or Triumph. The Triumph cost is a bit higher, but I can't seem to find what is actually better about it. Any info?

34A muzzleloader! AA deer! This is going to be good.
