Shoot it a lot, and then shoot it some more. Use a lot of "Bore Butter". These barrels season up and shoot better over time. Shoot it at various distances and note the drop. Be sure you have a range finder too. I was in your shoes last year. I sighted the gun in at 200 yards. I ended up shooting a deer at about 45 yards and put the crosshairs right on the sweet spot. Needless to say I almost missed him over his back. Know what your gun does in 50 yard intervals from 50 yards out to 200 yards (or whatever you feel comfortable at). The Encore is a great gun (watch the DVD that comes with the gun, it helps a lot). Good luck.

That's a great bull. Not 360 (who measured it?), but still a great bull. This bull is a small 6x6 (maybe 7 on the left it appears to have a non-typical point between G2 and G3) which usually measure a lot closer to 300". I hope I can arrow one that big next year.

never hunted there. I did see a good sized herd of mule deer at the lake 2 weeks ago.

Not his year. I got drawn last year for unit 1 bull. Came away with a nice 6x6. There were a bunch of tree huggers up there though setting off fireworks all night long and then driving around shooting in the air at first light scaring everything. (I couldn't ever shoot one of them though it crossed my mind, but if I could get my hands on on of them...) What a waste of a hunt, people do stupid things. I would bet they would stop if one of them stray bullets they are shooting in the air accidenlty killed someone. Or better yet, killed an elk!

have any of you used a AR type .223 for deer? I was thinking of trying it. Any input would be great.

I'm not trying to be negative. I was just hoping there was a reason you were asking, as in it meant something. I was unaware that not all checks were cashed within a month of there receipt at G&F.

We were hunting javelina in 34a during the H.A.M. hunt (Feb. 7th). We were hunting on the west side of the Santa Rita's. The area is accessed out of Green Valley via the Continental exit. The powerline road that crosses white house canyon road, below Madera canyon. We got a pig about 1/2 a mile east of the first gate you come to while heading south on the powerline road off of white house canyon road. We were camped on a bisecting road about 1 mile east of the powerline road. My buddy had them when he shot his pig saturday the 7th. He went up Monday morning to look for them with no luck. Please let me know if you have heard of anyone finding some Swarovski 10x42's in this area. He said he will try and muster up as much of a reward as he can right now. Thanks for your help.

Most game wardens I've met are pretty full of common sense. If I find some antlers I'm picking them up! If I think it is fresh I will report the dead deer to authories and just say the antlers were gone when I found it. Might end up helping find someones lost deer or catch a poacher. You really think G&F cares if you take the antlers?????????? Think of the rules intent, and use common sense.
