Seasonal Differences on Hunt Success
RoughCut replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Just some info for thought. In one of my favorite units (unit 33) this past year(2008). There were roughly 300 additional whitetail bucks taken from here this year. I assume from the additional allocation of tags. This doesn't include the jr's tags either. An increase in take of 70% over 2007. Cause for concern???? These numbers take into consideration that the survey results are remotely accurate. -
http://www.azgfd.gov/h_f/hunting_rules.shtml Gotta love that pig of a coues on the cover.

Hey Red, I was wondering if you understand this part. I am a little hazy as to what the last three columns represent. How can you tell if the tags issued were in the 20% pass? Thanks Red_Question.bmp

Leica Douvid 10+15x50... Who has used them?
RoughCut replied to DesertDweller's topic in Optics and tripods
The Duovids are an amazing piece of glass. We probably have 5 or six pairs in our group of hunting friends. When it came to glass that was all we ever recommended. We have just started to break that trend however. Most of us looking for 15x are moving to the Swaro's. We all agree that we really don't want to be dangling the duovids around our neck when stalking or hiking in general. We tend to carry more of a knock around glass on our chest. Also in our opinion the 10x suffers a little over the straight 10's Leica makes as well. Having said that I think it really comes down to preference. Both Leica and Swaro makes outstanding glass. It's too bad Leica doesn't make a straight 15x without having to pay the extra for a rangefinder.(Geovid). Maybe one day they will try and regain all of the business they are losing because of this. -
Bump... Amanda? Any help please.

This is where I was going with USPS. Yes, they are a third party. The problem that occured with game and fish was also a 3rd party issue(The company they chose to host their site). They are the ones who " dropped the ball". I guess this is what I don't understand, how is this different. What if Qwest or Cable ONE or Cox had some system wide outage, should G&F grant an extension for this. This statement released by game and fish settles this issue. Why they didn't release it before the initial deadline who knows. "Online applicants are encouraged to apply early to avoid missing the deadline because of forgotten passwords or other computer-related issues at the last minute. Late applications will not be accepted." Why are they now sticking to their guns. It's completely rediculous.

I have personally glassed up 4 lions. Never got a lay at them though

I tried and it doesn't return anything. Thanks for the suggestion. This is really frustrating as I know this forum has loads of info, but what is the use if you can't search for it?
-
I understand what you are saying Tam, and I apologize if you think I am calling others liberal as an insult. I was just bringing up a valid comparison. Like johnni blaze just said. If there were so many procrastinators that the USPS couldn't handle the volume we wouldn't even be discussing this right now. I think the usps analogy and the computer crash are one in the same. Just my opinion. Trying to keep this civil. Do you think that the Game and fish should also extend the deadline if usps drops the ball?

Wow, does that thing really only way 16 oz. That might be just what I am looking for. I don't really need awesome lowlight performance. Just mid-morning long range clarity.(to save those hikes of 2 miles only to find a non-shooter) Would you say this would suffice? Thanks

Extremely fantastic amazing point Stanley. That is exactly the point I want to make. It's not a two sided coin. There are some very comparable political undertones to this arguement as well. The first side (Liberal/Leftist) says "poor babies, it's okay you waited till the last minute to get your homework done, and now you are too sick(computer traffic overload) to do it. We can just extend the due date, how about that little fella? It doesn't matter that others took the initiative to get it done weeks ago." The second side (conservative/right wing) "The due date is the due date!! You knew you could have gotten sick or could have been called into work at the last minute." For me personally, If I got burned on the last day because I waited too long, I would step up and take it like a man. I wouldn't ask for a handout. Learn my lesson and get on the schtick next year. I know I would be PISSED IF I had to pay two more weeks of interest if I put the sheep ibex, antelope fees on my credit card.

If that is true, that is the biggest most rediculous pile of horses#!t I have ever heard!!! Truely Unbeleivable. Speaking of retributions..... I am sure they will definately get it now, more so than if they stuck to their guns. Way to pander to the under achievers NM

One comment I have on the Regs. is....... Has anyone noticed how they added 250 tags in 36A and B when those units combined offered almost 1100 leftover tags last year. Strictly a revenue making move??? Thoughts, Comments?? I personally think they should leave it be. Do we really have to wipe out more deer just because they are there. Also why increase and possible degrade the experience with extra hunters, when clearly the demand is lacking?

On these recommendations they for some reason don't designate the type of ram. The last six hunts are for Rocky's. If you look in the old regs Units 1,24A,23 and 27 are all Rocky units.
-
I am not sure I understand your question, but you have to put in specifically for the type of ram you want to hunt. From what I can remember they don't issue Desert Ram tags in the units they offer Rocky Rams in and vice-versa. There have been both draw types for awhile if I remember correctly. P.S. that is a bummer you had such luck in 31. Not fun when you put in the effort and time and get skunked like that.

Hello all, I was wanting to know if anybody was familiar with the limited opp. that includes units. 15A, 15B, 17A, 17B, 18A, 18B, 19B, 20A and 20C. I hunted the Juniper Mesa Wilderness Opening weekend as well as some country west of Paulden. I did not see or HEAR a single one. I hunted both of these last year and in both places the rut action was full speed. Starting to doubt myself and wondered if any of you guys know any of this country. Any help would be great. Thanks

I was thinking about this same thing just this morning. I couldn't agree more and think it's assanign they don't. NM has this in place and it's no problem.
-
A sneek peak at what the regs will be ....though not cast in stone, they are usually 99% correct 2009CommissionOrders.pdf

I wonder what the eastern whitetail record is in NM.

If you wanna know why you aren't getting through, just think about the fact that there areover 90,000 hunters wanting their results and only about 500 have gotten through. That's alot of people fighting for the phone lines. Several years back it took 3-4 days of calling to get through. I would set your alarm clocks if you really want to find out or pray Game and Fish posts it on the net.
