Hey Guys, I have a December hunt coming up here in a week and I was thinking I might drag a scent line or cover a spot somewhere that I could glass constantly. I guess just for Sh!ts and G!ggles. This is legal right? Also do any of you guys have a recommendation on brand and type. Is there a difference between Eastern and Coues Scents?? I know most if not anyone doesn't really do it on a rifle hunt but just looking for some thoughts. Any opinions would be great.

I hiked all over Juniper mesa for my archery cow tag. Saw about six deer in 3 days, 2 bucks. Neither anything to get excited about. I hunted camp wood/ seven up ranch a bunch last year and saw 26 deer in three days. Unbeleivably about 2/3 of them were bucks. Saw a gigantic muley on the Baca Float. The bucks seemed to get bigger the closer to 18b I got. Check around Antelope tank

I also have a 16 tag in NM. I am coming from Az and haven't had anytime to scout. I hear there are some monsters in the wilderness areas if you are a hiker. I will be hunting near Reserve as my folks have a cabin there. Unfortunatly I'm not taking it to seriously as gas is so pricey.

Yeah I haven't been there yet this year. I was there last year and there was a bunch of elk just on the ORO Ranch which is the Maria Baca Float. I am not sure if I could ever catch one off of that private property. There sure were a bunch of hunters up there as well. Thanks for the advice guys I will try and head up there tomorrow. That seems to be the area most people recommend.

I really wish you would have gotten a better picture of that rattler. Next time just put that thing on MACRO and really get in there. Don't be afraid to get after it.

Here are a couple of pics of some sheds a buddy of mine found in New Mexico. And before you guys start saying eastern whitey let me just ask you if you know of any easterns on the AZ/NM border

You know what's weird thouhg and probably convinced me is, I saw a buck last winter that looked extremely similar as far as shape went. He was only about a 90 inch class buck but boy he had those long skinny tines that shot straight up in the air. The didn't forward lean at all and his main beam had only slight inward curl similar to this shed. He was in Oak Creek Canyon where I see coues all the time.

*sigh* I guess I will tell my buddy he is full of poopie. Had my hopes up. You guys have crushed my dreams.

I've never heard of there being easterns on the west edge of NM but anything is possible. I have heard of them on the far eastern part. I'm not sure why so many think it's so impossible for a coues, typical to go 155+/-. I bet none of us can even fathom how many world record deer there are out there. About 10 years ago, a rancher found a single shed that with a matching pair and 14 inch spread would have put him in the 160's. That was in one of thewilderness areas here in Az. I just wish I, or any of us could take one down. Or just to see one alive would make most of us die happy hunters.

For anybody that cares, I talk to the Game Warden in my region every year to get some scoop on the Results Availability. July 22 is the date this year. You didn't hear it from me though

I'm not gonna say I am confident in my insider info at this point as you guys about have me talked in the fact my Warden buddy doesn't know jack. But a Pacifico with a little salt on the rim will do nice. None of the morton salt either, i like that fancy sea salt. Though I will say that if the info is right, about 95% of you guys will just say it't blind butt luck, so maybe I should just go buy my own beverages. Thanks though Jimmer the offer was nice. I completley agree, I never understood why it takes so long. Heck once the have the appls logged in the database it probably takes 10 seconds to spit out the results. Even when we were doing online Apps, it should have been much sooner than it was.

Ok, Before you guys come to castrate me, I already said he was right last year so I don't really have a reason not to believe him. He doesn't go into details because he really isn't supposed to talk about it. Maybe that is the date they are shooting for if all goes as planned. Don't know. I hear ya. The only reason I posted this was because he was right last year. I apologize if he is wrong, but he usually just says I don't know if he hasn't heard anything that is why I think it's accurate.
