Vegas Jeep.... PM sent.

Str8Shot >>> Shoot me a PM sometime with your cell number. We came across 3 bucks on Thursday before the hunt and 1 on Saturday 1 on Sunday and 2 on Tuesday. If you saw me on opening morning thats what we were working on getting the 3 we saw on Thursday afternoon. We had no luck finding them again though. The 2 we saw on Tuesday were trophy bucks but I could not close the distance due to fading light and 986 yard out to shoot at. We were a long way from where we saw each other the first couple of time in another part of the unit. But I learned something down there for next year. On a side note another thing I learned in the other part of the unit we were in....... It's not quite as safe as where we normaly hunt. We had somebody take a pop shot at us with a handgun from 50 yards out hitting the ground right next to my hunting partner. I will do a write up on my hunt in the next day or two with more details. Stay safe and good luck on your next hunt also. Shane

How many rounds of ammo do you carry?
WinMag replied to SunDevil's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Depends on where I'm hunting. Down in the 36's I always have way more than I hope I ever need. -
It is sad but funny you posted this. I also had my run in with people sporting the Coues White tail .com stickers on their vehicles. We arrived down there on Wednesday morning so we could have 2 days of scouting before the hunt. Well on Thursday night (7PM) as we were headed back to camp we came up on three vehicles pulling camp trailers on Ruby road going towards Arivica about a mile past the Warsaw Canyon area in the flats. I was in my Jeep and making decent time running about 25 or 30 MPH. When we pulled up behind them going about 2 or 3 MPH I figured they would let us pass when the opportunity arose. Wrong they actually made an effort to keep us behind them at all costs. After about a mile of this crap of eating their dust in my open top Jeep I finally took or created the opportunity to pass. I was amazed when I passed them to see the CWT stickers in the back window of two of the three vehicles. What a couple of asshats!! I did not want to push them to speed up. I can respect the fact that they were pulling trailers and did not want to trash them by going to fast. All we wanted was for them to do the right thing and let the faster vehicles pass as in not impeding traffic. BTW, I’m not sure it was you but we saw a couple of guys in a white Ford Raptor on Ruby road and also up in the hills we won’t mention where. We were in the Blue CJ-7 Jeep. If it was you then here is your wave of hello.

All loaded up and ready to go. Just have to finish loading in morning the expensive items and the things that go bang . Take the long drive and then it's off to 2 days of scouting and 7 days of hunting them little grey ghosts down south.

The day before makes for a long night.

Agreed on the long Week. Good luck on your hunt also and stay safe. -
Nice write up. Sounds like a good time and a nice hunt. Thanks for sharing with us.

That's part of the problem....IT DOSE’NT WORK. They need to fix it so it will work correctly in the future. I have seen people get drawn over and over again and again for great hunts while the rest of us sit back for 7 plus years or more without an Elk tag.

Myself and 4 others in my camp will be there from the 2nd thru 10th. Good luck on your hunt.

Sorry I did not read the story but the pictures tell the story when you see the smile on her face. Congrats.

If you hike in a mile or two you probably passed 3 roads and 10 hunters who parked where you think your in the middle of no where X2 You really don't need to do a lot of hiking in this unit to find deer. Just find the right spot. Focus on that area and let the other hunters do the hiking for you. They are always bumping deer that you will see if you are sitting and glassing them up, then put your stalk on them and finish the deal.

Good luck on your hunt.... 3 more weeks for me.

I have a friend of mine that is the manager for the curators of hoof stock at the Phoenix Zoo. He called me yesterday and asked if I knew of anybody local that can tan a Giraffe hide. I gave him a few names but was not sure if they were the right ones to send him to. Anyways does anybody know of a good place here local in town or at least close to town for this?
-
Thank you I will forward the names and info to him to look up contact numbers for them . Thanks Again.

I got mine from one of my favorite rifles to shoot. .338 Winchester Magnum "WinMag".

North of the US/Mexico border, south of Arivica road between I-19 and Sasabee Highway. It's all busy come opening day. The hunt gets better around Monday eve or even better on Tuesday thru the end of the hunt.

Kazpilot25..... I was only making an attempt of a joke with my comment above. As others have said there is deer all over the unit and the Corral Nuevo area is one of my favorite spots. Unfortunatly it is with many others in the last couple of years also. Keep in mind though everything to the east of the road inclueding the correls have burned in the last fire. I will be going down there in the morning (Friday) to do some scouting. Both the correls and other areas in the unit I hunt also. If I get any pictures i will post them up. Good luck on your scouting trip and the hunt.

There is no deer in that area of the unit. You would be wasting your itme.
-
If you are wanting to save the money and camp with a small group let me know. There will be 5 in our camp as it is now.
-
The Wyndam is just 5 miles north of Arivica road on I-19. Sort of spendy though.

Congrats and Happy Birthday

36b Scounting Sunday or Monday the 14th or 15th
WinMag replied to vegasjeep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I was planning on heading down there on the 3 day W/E next month. I need to see the area I hunt as the fire burned right thru it. Then again I don't think it will hurt the hunt to much. There are pro's and con's to hunting fresh burns. I may be interested in going with you on Sunday the 14th. -
Just a thought here, why not put your name and phone number on it? Then state that it is here for a reason and if found please call.... This would take away from the idea of it being abandon property.
