Anybody know how the fish population between Glenwood and Martinez is since the fire? I've heard that they're coming back decently but just curious if any of you have any firsthand experience lately. I would like to do a backcountry multi day trip down into that country there but I woukd like to know if the fish have rebounded yet. Feel free to pm me. Thanks, Creed

For the record, a deer doesn't have to score 200" to be a giant in my eyes. I just threw that number in the original post for a rough idea of what a giant is. I agree with Greyghost, those are pretty good odds. I will be archery hunting the strip when and if I ever get a tag.

Thanks Becker that was exactly the answer I was looking for.

I ask this question becasue I'm building points right now for the strip. I'm really considering not even sticking it out only because when I get tags, I try my hardest to hunt deer that other people aren't seeing. I want to kill that buck that nobody knows about yet. That's what makes a deer a trophy in my eyes more than anything. The fact that he's avoided people and has grown old. Big antlers are just a bonus and I think the two go hand in hand for the most part. I just really want to know if it's a realistic goal, to go up there and hunt for some deer That doesn't have his picture taken by 11 different outfitters. I can't shoot another az deer this year anyways, so it's just a bonus point this year for me. Would my goal of shooting a giant buck that nobody knows about be easier met on the Kaibab? Is there any parts of the strip that are roadless enough to backpack into and see the deer outfitters are missing?

I say do yourself a favor and go on a coues deer hunt if you haven't already before you choose your destination. Elk hunting is a blast, especially during the rut. I've been a part of elk hunts in some of the best units in the state and possibly the entire country and as much as I loved them, I enjoy my coues deer hunts more. I can't expect you to enjoy hunting coues deer as much as me but you might. If you did end up enjoying it as much as I do, then az is definitely the state you want to choose. If you want to hunt mule deer, you can do it here for a couple months a year with a bow in az and still get a rifle tag. That means you are guaranteed to hunt in your home state every year. If you don't draw the tag you want in new Mexico, then you're gonna have to leave the state to hunt. If you like elk hunting as much as I like coues hunting then you better choose new Mexico. Like others have said, Arizona isn't the place to get elk tags every year, but I know guys who have great luck during November with their bows every two to three years. I couldn't imagine living in a state where you couldn't get otc archery deer tags so new Mexico would be tough to swallow for me. I suppose if you lived In new Mexico you could always come over to Arizona and get an otc tag. Tough decision ahead for you. Could be alot worse though.

I see bucks every year in the southern units carrying into early June but most of the mature bucks drop in may. Some drop in April.
-
You can expect at least half of the bucks in the border units to still be carrying from my experience.

YouTube the Joe Rogan experience with Cameron hanes. They touch on some important stuff that you could use. A disconnect with the food you eat is a big one.

I just switched from the gold tip to black eagle carnivores. Feel good about the switch. Had the shop throw the gold tips together and put the black Eagles together myself. Im getting noticeably better groups with the black Eagles at a distance. It could be the prep job that that made the difference in accuracy but either way I won't be going back to the gold tips. Black eagle has some camo crested carnivores on clearance right now if you wanna save some money. They also have smaller diameter arrows that are supposed to be legit. If you're convinced you want one of the two you mentioned, I personally think the Eastons are better arrows.

I've seen some bucks that had no antlers. Alot still carrying though. Border unit.
-
I went out yesterday and saw 7 coues bucks. 6 were still packing 1 had dropped. I saw one mule deer that had dropped and one little two point mule deer still carrying. This was in a border unit. Generally I see the mule deer drop a few weeks earlier than the whitetail and the older bucks drop earlier than the younger bucks. That buck could very well carry those antlers into may. I see bucks every year carrying in may.

Razors although I have never looked though them side by side. Definitely better than the vipers in my opinion.

I think that they are just slightly better optically than the ed3s. I've looked through them both side by side. I like the eye cups better on the ed3s though. It's noohing huge, but it is the one thing I noticed between the two. Really good glass. Same warranty as vortex. I personally prefer the clarity on the zen ray primes over vortex's top glass.

Good luck. Without being given access I think it will be a very tough hunt. Start working on getting access now. Call game and fish. The warden for the area will have a list of all the ranchers and their contact info usually. Don't hold out for anything too big. They just don't exist in this unit generally. The biggest I've ever seen was a 78 inches, which was a buck that ended up getting harvested and measured.

Was it raining in 5bn while he was there?

Ive got close to 300 trees on my property and im tired of dealing with the above ground drip system that's in place now. The small drip emitters are constantly falling off, popping off, getting plugged, etc. and the hoses are a pain to move around when I drag the ground. I'm hoping to get some ideas on some type of watering system that is completely under the ground. My entire property has pvc water lines across it now, I just need an idea on what type of emitter to use that can be reliable 18" under the ground. Anybody got any ideas? I really want to be able to just hop on the tractor and blade every inch of the property without having to spend half the day rearranging drip hoses. I also don't want to have to unplug and replace emitters every two days. Any of you guys watering your trees with underground emitters of some sort? -Creed

I haven't looked I to that but I will research it. It's flat and sandy farmland where I live.

I water using a domestic well. I'm not so sure I could afford to put that much water on the ground. I guess I forgot to add that I would like to keep it economical. I don't make any money off of these trees. They were on the property when I bought it and they are as decorative as they are anything else. I have a mixture of pine, fruit, willow and cottonwood trees.

This is a dream spring for you guys!

Can a guy that's willing to hike get into any decent coues country in this unit? I'm not looking for any secret spots or anything I just want to know if I drew a tag here, that I would be able to get back into some huntable country. So, is it worth putting this unit down on my app? Would I be able to hunt any places that are accessible to the public? Thanks, Creed
