And as azdiamond mentioned, your bow is a piece of mechanical equipment and things do come loose etc. If you can't see anything out of the ordinary on it, have a bow shop take a look at it.

It's very hard to be over spined so I wouldn't worry too much about that. You can usually tune an overspined arrow just fine but you can't tune an underspined arrow. Even in my wife's bow she shoots very stiff arrow with very low poundage and tunes just fine. I would focus on shooting form first and foremost. Next I would look into fletching contact. After that I would try tuning the bow maybe start with paper tuning because that will help you find some of your shooting form flaws. You can't end with paper tuning so after paper tuning I would consider modified French tuning of walk back tuning. Google em. I usually skip the paper tuning unless I think I'm having form trouble.

Ain't a deer safe now.

Watching him spin around and face whatever stuck him in the side proves he was probably a bada$$. Good video not many ppl with video of themselves shooting a coues buck with a bow.

I'll be checking in on this. Keep us posted.

I see a sgk limiting you on shot placement a little bit. It's highly likely that hitting a deer in the shoulder with a little game king at high speed will result in a blown up bullet. Hit em in the lungs and they'll die but things do happen and if you happened to hit shoulder you may be in trouble. I don't have experience with game Kings in that caliber so I could be off base but I don't see them as your best option. They may shoot the best though, Sierra makes very accurate bullets.

I've never been on the monometal bandwagon but I know some guys that have done well with the Barnes bullets in that caliber. Barnes bullets require pretty high velocity and that caliber brings some speed so they should pair up well.

I'm a certified coues junkie through and through. There's not an ounce of me that doesn't think about big coues bucks all year long. There is and has been a dark side in me lurking for awhile however. I spend a few days each year looking for a big desert mule deer to shoot with my Bow. I've screwed up on a few giants over the years, but for the most part the coues bug has really prevented me from putting in the necessary time needed to harvest a bottom dwelling desert buck with my Bow. I've always told myself that it would take something special of a mule deer to make me end my coues season. I may have lowered my standards just a bit this season but my archery affair with a mule deer has finally come to be. I'm not one to Chase numbers, so Im ok knowing that I've walked away from bucks in the past that would stretch the tape more than this guy, but I couldn't get past the build on this deer so I decided to stalk him. I found him right before dark the day prior and left him be. At sunup the next day my uncle and I found him about 400 yards from where him and his does were the night before. They had moved much closer to a deep wash so I used that wash as cover to slip in close. They fed and paralleled the wash for a ways about 200 yards away from it so I came out of the wash where I thought I might have a chance at intercepting them as they fed by. I crawled for a ways and ran into a small 3x3. We stared at each other for a bit and then I kept crawling. He turned and trotted towards the main group of deer so I hurried to get to where I wanted to be. As I crawled around a bush I could see a few does standing around looking back towards the small buck. They eventually settled down and began to feed to my right. I ranged the first doe as she walked through and stopped. 67 yards. I adjusted my sight, and waited. The next deer was a fawn, and the deer directly behind the fawn was the deer that I had spent the last 11 months practicing for. I came to full draw as he stopped when he got to the back of the lead doe. As I settled the pin I began to shake uncontrollably. I almost made the same crucial mistake that I've made in the past on much larger deer than this and punched the trigger as it danced around in all directions. I caught myself before I sent an arrow over his back or somewhere much worse and let my Bow down. The deer had no idea I was there and didn't catch the movement so I redrew. I did what I could to regain my composure and settle my pin on his side. My shaking had subdued enough for me to touch it off comfortably. I watched my arrow sink into his ribs and saw blood immediately as he ran off. I stood up and got to watch him do the death wobble and tip over about 70 yards later. I've had time to let it all sink in now and I won't lie, I'm having a little coues hunter's remorse. Im not sure if I can wait another year to chase some coues bucks. But, Although it may be short lived, I won't soon forget my step into the dark side. I do actually have a great deal of respect for these old desert mule deer bucks. They find a way to grow old in some pretty harsh conditions. My hats off to all of you that are able to beat the eyes and ears of these mule deer bucks and the does they surround themselves with come this time of year. Thanks for reading. Creed

I'm undecided on the shoulder mount man. My wife kind of has her own mule deer wall and ive got my coues deer wall. I'm not sure if she'll let me put my deer on her wall or not. Still gotta butter her up to that. I may just go the old school euro mount route.

I don't think he has the mass or the forks to make 170 prdatr. I haven't scored him yet and Im really not in any hurry to score him, but I don't think he's got what it takes to make 170. He probably won't even make 160 if I had to guess but im definitely not a mule deer expert by any means.

I've always wondered if the people that say they should not be eaten have ever eaten them at all. They're fantastic. Better than a stinky flop eared mule deer buck Imo.
-
I didn't read all the other responses so this might have already been said but even if you do a shoulder mount, you should still have a euro done. The skull is not needed for a shoulder mount.

Nothing better than getting the kids involved. Very impressive kd.

Just another December coues/ backpack thread.

Are you kidding me. I know so many people who have never killed a true 4x4 coues and you made it look easy. Both very nice bucks. Impressive. -
I haven't personally been out looking at mule deer but relatives of mine have been chasing multiple bucks with and pushing does in southern units. They say that they're not pushing does hard but they are chasing off small bucks and holding on to groups of does. This is coming from multiple relatives.

Fantastic year! Can't wait to hunt with my kids. Keep the memories flowing coach.

Need some accubonds or ballistic tips for my 243
creed_az_88 replied to Splatt's topic in Classified Ads
My wife shot her mule deer this year with a 100 grain Sierra pro hunter. The bullet hit the very back soft cartilage part of the shoulder blade and blew up. None of the bullet made it into the vitals. Fortunately some of the bullet fragments made it into the spinal cord and put the deer down. The shot was at 160 yards out of her 243. Just thought id share our only experience with the Sierras. We'll be trying the 95 grain ballistic tips next due to their supposed thicker jacket design. Why not go with a bonded bullet like Accubond, or monometal, TTSX or gmx?To be honest with you, the biggest reason is price. I'm all about paying for the best If it's necessary, and we had decided that the accubond was gonna be our next choice but I came across some interesting reads about the 95 grain ballistic tips and how they were designed with a thicker jacket wall than most other similar 6mm bullets. I have yet to read of one in that particular weight failing and most of what I've read suggest that people almost always get an exit. I don't quite trust the monometals yet. Call me paranoid I guess but I've read about too many bullet failures from the monometals, although I've read about way more success than failures. Maybe I'm relying on Internet research a little too much... Since it was from Internet research that I determined a Sierra pro hunter was a good choice in the first place haha. Now you got me thinking. P. S., sorry for hijacking the thread o. P. -

So, now that they're sold, what Merino base layer did you prefer? The kuiu or the first lite?

Cut it into strips and fry it like you would fajitas with all the fixings. Just look up a fajita recipe and replace the meat in the recipe with heart.

Looks all coues to me. What an awesome deer for that young man. -
Did the SD card have pics already on it from a different camera? It's good to format each card before you use it. I've learned that the hard way. I've lost entire sets of pics because the SD card had pics on it from a different camera and it corrupted the files somehow.

I enjoyed reading that, thanks. Interesting you chose to zero your rifle at 450. You always do that? Just curious nothing else. I can't wait until my kids are old enough to do that with me. Good job and thanks for allowing other kids to be out there with you.

Pretty typical from you guys. Seems like you leave very few tags unfilled.
