    what kind of range?

You need to know your velocity at the muzzle and calculate it at different distances using an app. Then check what minimum velocity your bullet is rated to open at. Bullet expansion is what matters imo. 90 grain charge isn't gonna give you much velocity. Also, the 250 grain sst's have a questionable reputation at lower velocities.

    Alpine fishing?

I took a pile of kids to one of the body's of water you mentioned over the weekend. Every kid limited out rather quick. Daughter caught a 21 inch rainbow. We absolutely slayed em. Kept everybody's limits and threw tons back. Every other group we talked to hadn't caught anything. Tiny hooks, power bait, and 2 ft leader and you'll smash em.

    Duwane Adams ?

I don't know Duwane nor have I spoke with him, but his son in law Nick graciously donated some money to my niece's cancer fund without knowing her nor me. We've talked a bit through social media. He seems like a very stand up guy to me, and if I was ever considering a guided hunt, I would at a minimum give Duwane's son in law nick a call ask some questions.

    Deer/Sheep Regs

Bear and lion get physically checked so it does not happen. Deer on the other hand, time will tell.

    NM mule deer

Have you measured velocity? I don't have the data with me, and I haven't shot my accura v2 in a couple of years, but i do remember that at 325 yards kinetic energy for my setup, which if I remember right is identical to yours, was 800 ft lbs. The gun was unbelievably accurate at the distance and further, but i decided i wouldnt shoot a deer any further than 325 yds because that was the distance that the velocity dropped below the stated minimum velocity for expansion. I did shoot a deer at 280 yds with that setup and he collapsed instantly for what it's worth. You definitely need to measure your muzzle velocity and calculate velocity at extended ranges and then compare those velocities to what traditions states as the minimum velocity for expansion. Also, you need to be able to determine wind drift using strelok or a similar app and then proof shoot it in the wind. Wind drift is the the biggest limiting factor in muzzeloading in my experience. The slightest breeze can carry a bullet multiple feet left or right past 200 yards. Good luck man!
  9. Very few southern units will have january mule deer hunts anymore, and the ones that do will get flooded. 5 or 10 animal threshold it ridiculously low. That many 2 points get shot opening weekend of january every year in rach unit. 800 rifle tags isn't a problem though somehow.

    Do deer move in rain?

    Admin should screen this guy.
  11. That meeting is from october. Yesterday's meeting is not on there unless I missed it.
  12. The meeting is no longer visible on the game and fish website. I'm not shocked at this point, but I am disappointed that they have gone through with changes to the current otc archery structure without compiling data from MANDATORY harvest reporting first. Did anybody that watched or attended the meeting happen to hear what will happen to the guys who tagged out in january of 2022? Will I have to wait until August of 2023 to hunt again now that they seem to be including janaury as part of the previous hunt year? Am I reading that part right?

Switching from applying for rifle to archery tags?

I agree with creed (never thought I'd say that), spot n stalk antelope isn't as hard as everybody makes it out to be. Its definitely easier than spot n stalk coues deer by a long shot. I say get an archery tag and don't look back. You'll likely never draw a rifle tag anyways I personally don't think shooting one with a rifle would even be satisfying. If you put all your focus into the hunt, and scout diligently, shooting a really big buck with your Bow is a very doable endeavor.

    Best Coues taxidermist

Clay at mogollon, Chris Harlow, wellers, and lippert doyle have all done a good job for me. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. If in velvet, go with mogollon.

    Kowa compact spotters

Frustrated monk pretty much hit the nail on the head. I have a 554 and it has been nothing short of spectacular. I've compared it side by side with both the sts and stx 65's. The kowa has a relatively poor field of view, as well as semi poor eye relief, but because I dont use a spotter to locate animals and only to get a closer look at them, those cons are a non issue. At this point, you could not convince me to carry a swaro 65 over the kowa 554. Outside of the last few minutes of light, the 554 hangs with the swaros and in many conditions, to my eyes, I have felt like it was superior in clarity and brightness. It is usable at all zoom ranges, but it maxes out at 45x. In my experience, using the swaros beyond 45x is not a great experience unless conditions are perfect. The 554 is an amazing piece, and because of its size and weight, it is much more versatile than most scopes. Kowa hit it out of the park with that one.

Hang Elk quarters in Upright Freezer

I do that with all my game minus elk. Elk won't fit in my setup. I just have a standing refrigerator that I have taken all the shelves out of. It will hang a whole coues deer with no head or feet. I don't get too caught up in aging meat, but I've left meat hanging in it for up to about 8 days and it's been great. Most of the time it's just devoted or quartered animals hanging in game bags until I have time to process it. Gets messy as the blood drips and runs out of the door though. I haven't come up with a good solution to catch the blood properly.

I knew this forum was not what it once was, but this is the last straw, I have now lost all hope in you guys. Mule deer over coues deer? Do not cave in to trphyhntrs toxic mule deer fetish.

otc changes--> increase in trophy quality?

Otc changes will have very little effect on trophy quality. Removing otc all together would also have very little effect on trophy quality in most places.
