Here is my 35A/35B Dec. Muzzleloader buck. 4x2. 167 yards, T/C Encore, 250 gr Precision Rifle Sabot
-
Congrats on a good archery kill. Looks like the deer where you are hunting are going to be looking for water soon. Seems like most of the ponds i come to this year look like that.

I took this buck last Tuesday in the Dec. Muzzleloader Hunt. 121 Yards .50 Cal T/C Encore 250 Gr Precision Rifle Sabot
-
I am shooting the .50 cal T/C Encore and had very good luck with it. I am shooting Buckhorn Powder and 250 Gr Precision Rifle Sabots. At 200 yds I am getting a 4" group. I have a CVA and Knight .54 cal inlines but this gun shoots much better than both of them.

Poached Elk and Stolen Apache Trout
Sundevils79 replied to azhuntergirl's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
When you get caught for something like this, the case is first taken to court. And once you are found guilty, your case goes to the commision for civil damsges and loss of licenses. This can be big bucks so there is no slap on the wrist here. I understand how the system works. But trust me I have seen the slap on the wrist come from the AZ G&F as well especially when dealing with minors. Most of the ones I know that have been caught poaching from that area have never hunted leagally in their life so a loss of license is no big deal. And so what if they don t pay the fine what will they really do to them ? Lock them up? Not likely... does the GF have any recourse against the parents? probably, but that would make them get involved in the lives of their childern and heaven forbid that happen. The bottom line is that most scumbag poachers could really care less about having a license or being legal so taking away a privilege they never respected is not going have any effect on their decision making process. If they want to poach they will poach. I am not sure what the answer is and I feel that yes the civil penalties have gotten much better over the past few years the criminal aspect of the prosecution is a joke. They jerk-offs are stealing from the people of the State of Arizona with very little consequence in my opinion. Sorry to get on a soap box but this one really irritates me as I grew up in this area and saw this same crap go on from generation to generation my entire life. I will tell you that for every 1 elk they find dead there are at least 5 more that were poached that were never found. Here as perfect example of the type of behavior you see out of the adults in that same area: http://www.azgfd.net/wildlife/hunting-news...ent/2009/06/08/ This happened just a few months back. These are the role models that are suppose to be guiding our youth to being better sportsman? Not much faith here....... -
Looking for new .50 cal...Suggestions?
Sundevils79 replied to Sundevils79's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I haven't heard of this yet but looks very interesting. The gun counter manager at SW turned me onto Blackhorn....says it is basically smokeless for smoke poles. http://www.blackhorn209.com/home/ He swears by it and says the amount of fouling is nearly nothing. Gonna try it out for sure. -
Looking for new .50 cal...Suggestions?
Sundevils79 posted a topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I am looking to get a new .50 cal. I have been shooting a .54 cal Knight for the past 15 years or so and it is a great gun for my elk and antelope hunts. I am now chasing the desert deer with my muzzleloader and would like to upgrade. I am looking to increase my shot distance potential but still having a good reliable gun. Does anyone have any suggestions? -

Well i ended up getting the T/C Encore....Sportsmans had a killer deal on them here in Tucson....less than $500 out the door. Little more than I wanted to spend but I have a great gun that opens me up to a lot of options. Thanks all for the input. Jay -
Poached Elk and Stolen Apache Trout
Sundevils79 replied to azhuntergirl's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
More than likely one of the little scumbags from Springerville/Eagar area...poaching is a right of passage up there. Kind of like being initiated into a gang....makes me sick. What makes me even sicker is the fact they will more than likely catch the culpret...they will go before the Round Valley Justice Court have there hand slaped and a little fine and be ready for archery deer season in a couple weeks. I hate to say it but I've seen it over and over again especially with the minors. Once a poacher always a poacher...just like a the old saying about a bear that has tasted human blood. -
Campout up by Green's Peak
Sundevils79 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
No worries RR....i just grew up in that area and spent many hours in the fields watching that water help grow our hay. They actually went in a couple years ago a tried to fix the dam on River Res. because it did leak a little bit and the Army Corps of Engineers deemed it "unsafe". River will also always have a little water in it as the headgate doesn't allow it to go completely dry. Great lake for Browns....spent many and early spring up there chasing them. SD -
Campout up by Green's Peak
Sundevils79 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
It surprises me that they can chew it all up without leaving claw or tooth marks. That exposed part of the tree was soft and would take marks easily, yet I couldn't find anything that looked like claw or tooth marks. Do you normally not see marks in the trees you find? Amanda I have heard these trees called Sugar Pines as well. As mentioned above bears love them....i've see stands of 20 trees all peeled and ready for Mr. Bear. -

Actually the lakes in Greer don't leak the reason they are so low this time on year is that they are the storage reservoirs for the Round Valley irrigation system. By this time of the year the farmers in the valley have been irrigating for 4 months and used up most of the water in time for the monsoon. Just a little clarification is all..... -
I agree....I have killed about 6 elk with my remington model 700 25-06 and another 3 with an old remington model 600 .243.....contrary to popular belief you don't need a cannon to kill an elk. My little sister is using a .260 in the Remington Model 7 (Shorter action, good for kids) and has killed 3 elk with it. Hope this helps.

German Shorthair-Lab Mix Pups
Sundevils79 posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I have two FEMALE shorthair-lab mix pups that need a good home-- no cost. They are 3 1/2 months old. They have all their shots. Mother and grandmother are both excellent quail hunters. Contact me at jaysundevils79@hotmail.com or 520-429-6113 if interested. MOM AND POPS -
I wouldn't hunt anything south of I-40 But seriously you always run the risks of the encounters of human smuggling and drug related activities in these units. I guess it really comes down to your comfort level and how much risk you will take for a deer tag. Me personally I have been hunting these units for years and never had anything more than a random border jumper encounter.

A buddy and I killed these winter before last. THere were about 40 of them in the group. I started with one running across the road in front of us and when we went over to the canyon where it ran the hillside was crawling with them.
