Is a guided hunt as satisfying as do-it yourself?
Shawn replied to lousyhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
"The guide has access to private land where no one will screw it up for you and he also places the stands in the most likely spots." This is where i have the problem. Some private land owners lease their land that has a road going across their land and State Land on the other side to SOME guides. This blocks off thousands of acres to all of us except for the guide that has their own private hunting reserve on the small portion of the leased land and thousands of acres of state land. We are having this problem on some of the units that we hunt. This is becoming a serious problem. -

Don't some states require a guide for non-residents also? Don't have an opinion on the subject, but it is just wrong to have to have a guide if you don't want to. You should be able to hunt in any state on your own if that is what you want to do (if you get drawn). -
Great deer! Congratulations

Cool pic -
Was deer hunting with a buddy and was glassing some does. All of a sudden does took off, I looked in the bottom of the canyon and saw this guy coming up the canyon. Man they can cover some country. Took him about 5 min. what would have taken me 45 min.

Thank you for posting these. We need to stand together like never before. -
Shawn, are you saying that unless one is a member of the NRA they have no right to post on this site. I hope that is not what you are saying. This site is for opinions, it is an open forum, its not the same as saying if you did not vote then you don't have the right to complain. I feel we do have a responsibility to stand up for our second amendment rights. We can all do that in different ways. Some people may not have the money to join a group like the NRA. All people dont have the extra $60.00 bucks in their pocket to join. Does that mean they don't have the right to speak out on this forum. Those people can help in so many other ways. They can, inform others of their rights and how to stand up for them. They can call their Congress, and Senate reps so they know how their constituents feel. As for me, I am not a member of the NRA. I am currently researching what group I want to join (NRA, SCI, Gun Owners of America), and that will be my Christmas gift from my wife. DD All am am saying is the next 4 years could be tough on us as gun owners and there are strength in numbers. A one year memberbership is $35

I got this deer this past Aug. My dad Jimp had taged out on a 2 pointer on opening day. We glassed this guy up on the first tue. of the hunt about 400 yards away. I made a stalk on him. When I came over I thought he would be about 150 yards down the hill. To my surprise he was walking 30 yards from me down the hill. When I shot him he didnt go far. First time me and my dad got 2 coues with a bow in the same year. With my daughter geting her first deer this has been a great year.

This is my daughters first deer. We got it on opening day, she did not get drawn for the junior hunt, we had to put in for a left over tag down south. Left camp around 4:45, hiked 3 and a half miles where i had done some scouting at the end of September. Around 12:30 we had just seen does. We went around the other side of the hill to glass across this big deep canyon. We spotted 2 bucks across the canyon about 500 yards away. One was a REALLY good buck, we eased our way down the hill trying to cut the distance down. Finally got to about as far down as we could go and they were still 400 yards away. We were glassing and this guy and two small bucks came out from bedding 100 yards below the other bucks. We got a good solid rest on a tree and waited for him to stand braud side and she drilled it. The hill was so steep it rolled about 50 yards down before it finally stopped. Walking up that steep hill was a pain, there was no carrying him down so we dragged him to the bottom of the canyon and gutted him down there. She had to carry a backpack full of gear which weighed about 40 pounds and i carried the deer back to camp. She is one tough hunter and she is hooked, we had an absolute blast!!! Not bad for a first shot at live game
