enjoyed many a toast in that great old building. Marble Canyon Lodge burns to the ground The Marble Canyon Lodge and Restaurant burned to the ground early this morning. The historic building has been a stop for travelers in the Lee's Ferry area since 1926. Highway 89A was closed for several hours in the area. According to information from the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, the owner, who lives on site, awoke to a burglary alarm at about 1:30 a.m. and found smoke and flames billowing out of the rear of the building. Construction workers, who were staying at the motel as they worked to improve Lees Ferry Road, scrambled to help. The workers used their two water tanker trucks. Firefighters from Page arrived about an hour and a half later. Emergency responders from the Fredonia Fire Department, Colorado City/Hildale Fire Department, Page Electric, National Park Service Rangers from Lee's Ferry, and Kane County Medical Transport were also on site. The newer building that houses the post office and convenience store north of the lodge was not damaged. The motel to the south was also unharmed. The sheriff's office and the Flagstaff Police Department are investigating how the fire might have started.

i sure hope some cwt members get over there and bring back some loins and some photos........ Tue Jun 11 2013, 08:42AM by Richie Another fine day of weather on the offshore grounds made searching for the elusive bft a pleasure. We hit a handfull of spots through early afternoon that produced 35 from 25-40lbs. Unfortunately due to the smaller grade seen throughout this morning, we weren't quite prepared when we rolled into a spot of 100-150lbers late in the day. We managed to hook six and batted one thousand losing them all. The show was worth the price of admission though. I'm sure if we get another shot we'll have better results. With the shot at this caliber fish we're going to give this another day. Randy

Sat Jun 15 2013, 09:08AM by Richie All Day Drift... We got on a school in the dark this morning and shut down on them. It took a little while for them to come back around, but they did get under us and at 4:30am we hooked into the first Jig fish. By daylight(grey) there were 9 of the 40-60 lb. Bluefin on deck. We then began to plunk away at the beautiful grade of Tuna for the rest of the day. The fish were cookie cutter 50-60 lber's with a couple bigger up to 70 lbs. and a couple smaller ones. It was the kinda day we were looking for and the type of day we all enjoy very much. Quality Bluefin, plunker style, all day long. John Keeler was again the hot stick catching many fat Bluefin, Cole Chivira also boated his share today and everyone else caught plenty. We will make a move tonight up the line a ways to have more fishing time tomorrow before we call it a trip. Wish us Luck. "The Intrepid Team" -

It is illegal in CA to sell sport caught fish of any kind. a black market does exist but it is nowhere near the docks. if a sport boat wants to fish commercially for a short period they must have permits and cannot take paying passengers during that period. i am not sure about the maker of this video but it does show the industry associated with unloading and processing your catch after a long range trip. vacuum packed, smoked or canned is available-for preset fees if you don't want to do the work yourself. local and 1 to 5 day trips you get your fish frozen whole in the round or filleted on the boat for a per fish fee. -

The Evergreen Air DC-10 with the big red guppy belly just flew right over the house at about 2500ft. Guess they are just getting the lay of the land before the battles start here. Lots of air attack crews in town-if you run into them at safeway or the hotels remind them not to fly faster or lower than their angels can fly-and give them a big thanks..... lee

Just an idea-would it be possible to post the public edition of the various trophy books on the forums and have the members sign their avatar to their book entry? i only know of lucky2hunt with an entry but am sure of many more. copyright, server space, other problems could be overcome if there is interest and somebody can put it together. kinda like the member map maybe. lee

.....but not a shootin' war..... loudmouth sales clerk at the new CAL Ranch(spell that 'overpriced') store in show low tried to lecture me this morning and ... well..... i hope he's terminated by now but that is probably just wishful thinking... anyway off with the gloves-i can take the hits how 'bout u?-cuz i'm still cranky about this morning. THE most overrated caliber ever in the last three centuries has got to be the 7mm/08. what a waste of powder, primer and proof steel. and its little sister the .243 winchester is right behind. key word being overrated. kinda like the yanks on safari who thought the 22 savage high power at 4000fps was lethal enough for lion in the 1920's. i'm just SURE! none of the highly evolved and experienced shootist's on a top flight board like CWT would disagree..... lee Insanity runs in the family-it practically gallups!

there might be some bull in the area...the 452 hewitt bull was killed on the the north shore of the lake. a 419 bull was taken in 2006 just north of the dam...a 400 bull was killed on the hiway about 2 miles northeast of the campground in 2011... i found a 7x8 deadhead within 200 yds of the dam on christmas eve 2007....i was down below the dam in the riparian area yesterday and it looked like jurassic park for elk. theres an eroded clay bank there about 100yds long and 100ft high sloping real steep down to the creek the elk are using like an otter slide...wish i could get video of that action...... prolly best to go over to greens peak or 27 thats where the elk are.... lee

Toby Burke grabbed the first thing in sight: his scope attached to a 6-foot-long tripod. "I put the scope sideways into the bear's mouth, keeping it away, and it swatted at the scope and severed it," he said. The severed metal tripod left a sharp shaft, which Burke used to hit the bear in the face to scare it away. Yet it still didn't seem to budge and smacked the tripod out of Burke's hands. "It was just me between my family and the bear," he said. "At that point, I made physical contact. All I could do was put my left arm up. Then its mouth clamped down on my forearm. So I remember hitting it in the face with my right arm." After several minutes of scuffling, the bear gave up and ran away, and Burke managed to walk away with minor bruises and scratches. http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/alaska-man-fights-off-bear-walks-away-minor-100049041.html -
