Seasoned and true Seeker Classic 670Heavy(like 6480) in 8ft, 30-80lb, with cork tape and partial deckhand cord wrap reel seat. When i bought this from a pinhead during the 2005 season it was already about 1" short with a replaced tip end. Started killing yellowfin with it the day after i got it and set some personal bests-and jackpots!- with it over the next 4 years but won't need it anymore. if distance(read long range out to 500y) and if by speed(read 3000fps+) is your goal this is not the gun to consider those things. a .284 winchester in a better bolt gun is all of that and more. this model 88 winchester is a great deer gitter-and bear and pig and elk-out to about 200 yards-maybe 250 if the gods are on your side. pressure is the enemy of lever guns-no camming power getting the cartridge in or the case out when things get hot. in 12 months of reloading you will know this stuff. lever guns, autos, pumps and falling blocks may be sexy and all but bolt guns are where you can stretch out the velocity and range. don't think you can do it with a 50 year old lever rifle. not even a m88. of all the reloading data you can read in print and online-none of it is for lever actions. read zero. buddy you know you can pm me. i've loaded for m88, m99, blr, and m71 in .284, 300sav, 250/3000, 308 and .348. lee

book club books i'm sure-no first editions here. Dick O'Kanes masterpiece of the pacific Clear the Bridge detailing his role as exec on the Wahoo and his top shelf performance with his Tang. Mush Morton did not survive the Wahoo but O'Kane tells the tale of both boats with candor and insight. Best non-fiction sub book ever. Ned Beach would later say of O'Kane that he was a little insane in his hatred. GREAT read. Clay Blairs' 2 volume Silent Victory is a collection of the war patrol reports of every pig boat and fleet boat and tender during the war. all of them and some background. met a ww2 sub vet in 2002 when i bought a toy 4x4 from him. when i called him later and read the patrol report to him on the phone he went into apoplexy-"thats classified" he screamed. i loaned him the collection later. after reading these two excellent stories few sub mysteries of the pacific will remain. condition good-very good, no providence but all the pages are there. $50 or best offer- shipping included or pick up show low, AZ lee 928-537-0599 biglakejake@hotmail.com

just from my very limited and narrow experience-might i suggest another load? like for all big game with that fine lever action winchester? 150gr nosler partition and 4831/3100. or ww760 with mag primers. all are lower pressure than 4350/414 and that matters in lever guns. all lever guns. good luck, lee

there is no .222 brass. only .222 Magnum. 20 pcs 22/250 for 50 cents. that what it said on the box so that what it goes for. lee

if it is a bolt gun just buy 100rds of brass from midway and neck size rather than full length size. with neck sizing figure a minimum of 6 loads-maybe 20!- from each piece. thats 600 rounds. the lever and pump guns usually need to be fls for however. lee

all-original pre-64 m88's can be worth a grand or more-with a big boost for the ones in .284 and .358. post 64 rifles like this one get a boost for .358-but winchester really flooded the market with them up until 1974 so no real price retention or appreciated value. putting it on consignment in a shop in the areas frequented by midwestern winter visitors is how i moved a couple back in the 1990's. 500 would be a fair price for this rifle. good luck, lee

i would avoid tru-oil and go with an unstained tung oil finish. M99's had walnut up until the end and even a lighter grade of walnut goes well with tung or varnish. tru-oil for display guns-tung for hunting rifles. lee
