    Todays Finds 20mm

Dave- your inbox will not accept any mail so i just put this here.... back in the spring of 2001 i watched a history channel docu about craig button stealing a warthog from dm and driving it up to colorado to crash it into a mountain. the search for the 4 500lbers was mentioned and they showed a pic of an impact crater created from an unarmed 500lber. click. i had seen that before. horn hunting about a month after the incident in 4b-4 years before. i drew a picture of what i had seen-a very strange bear den-and dropped it off with my number to the show low recruiting office. within 48 hours of this a dm od squad was at my door asking me to take them to the location. after 4 years of snow and rain i could not find the impact site in the 3 days we looked. they were darn sure i had it-we were directly under his recorded radar track. we did find some horns though. lee

http://www.976-tuna.com/e107_plugins/landing/audio.php?btrack.7.1401053166 crushed ? usually that would mean about 1 in 20 that are hooked come to gaff. 70-100 lb bluefin on 40 lb gear is a world of hurt and a very poor catch ratio. but fun with a capital F. anybody headed out?..update - http://www.976-tuna.com/e107_plugins/landing/audio.php?btrack.7.1401074838 lee

el nino baby, just el nino ! Mon May 19 2014, 01:07PM by Terentius We returned last night from our 2 day offshore exploratory trip. We covered a lot of water that looked really good, and had decent sign of bait. It took us a while and a lot of traveling, but we stayed the course and we were rewarded. We found a small water edge at about 3:30 in the afternoon. We immediately got a double jig-strike and a bait fish on Yellowfin tuna. We were pretty surprised as it is May and we could not recall ever catching Yellowfin tuna in May in this zone so close to home. We began to scout around and got into some cold water. We were going to turn up towards home to put ourselves into position for the next day. We decided to go back to the zone. We immediately got a stop for five Yellowfin tuna on a meter mark and a couple blind strikes. At that point, it put us to 9 yellowfin tuna. About 7:00 pm in the evening we saw a small spot of Bluefin tuna up feeding and puddling around. We slid the boat up swell of them, threw some bait, and they immediately came to the corner and under the boat. After some casualties and the initial shock, the blood on the deck, we ended up with 15 Bluefin tuna. We put the jigs right in the water as we left in the dark, and immediately got a jig-strike with two more Yellowfin. That put us at a total of 11 Yellowfin tuna. Day 2: We started 90 miles from Mission Bay and worked all the way up to the outside of the Coronado Islands. We saw lots of good water and water temperatures. We also saw some green water and cold water temperatures, which is a good sign because it gives us edges. Unfortunately, we hooked and lost one Yellowtail, one short bite on the jigs, and lots of empty kelps. We returned to the dock just after 6:30 pm with limits of smiles, and great optimism for our upcoming summer season. We would like to thank Mark Smith at Charkbait for his continued support of the Eclipse and we encourage you to visit both their Huntington Beach and Point-Loma locations. We would also like to thank Helms Brewing Co. for graciously donating the beer samples for our guests on the way out to sea. Tight Lines & Sharp Hooks! -Captain Mark

    Roosevelt headwaters?

the day use area at the diversion dam/rockhouse store would only be viable for catching fish after dark. is the rockhouse store still standing? lee

    Roosevelt headwaters?

turn west off the 288 onto A-Cross road and there are several two tracks and 4x4 trails that will take you down to lakeside camping spots. night bass and catfishing and dawn sunfish, crappie and bass can be excellent from shore. a can of corn, a 6 year old and a 10 lb carp caught just after dark can make a fisherman for life......... good luck, lee ps you will have share the shoreline with the rattlesnakes, scorpions and skunks........this is still arizona...

    beyond here...........there be tuna....

never argue with el nino. tuna off point loma in april/may is a surer sign of el nino than anything noaa can predict. el nino can mean tuna for over 6 months off 'dego and yellowfin and bigeye off the golden gate in september. the best sd fishing will probably be mid june through labor day if history is any precedent. several boats going out under the spotters this weekend-mostly day-and-a-half trips. luck, lee

    Fishing (San DIego)

i received my 'tuna junk mail' from H & M Landing saturday. its a half-inch thick envelope of individual boat open party schedules and H & M's 2014 brochure with all the motivational color pics! you can get one too by simply calling 619-222-1144 and asking for one to be sent to you free of charge lol ! with el nino running strong this can be a good resource for finding weekday trips with light loads. the 1 1/2, 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 day trips dock up at daylight giving you time to make the run across the desert well rested. lee ps thats a phone number i've had memorized since 1985 or so....

phoenix phishing. yeah sure. swivel they can prolly "hook you up" for a great albatross charter send in your deposit sir! lots of early tuna however this week out of seaforth, h&m and point loma. as in sportfishing landings. not in phoenix. as for albacore-an el nino season usually limits them to a minimal showing but yellowfin, bigeye and dorado can plug the holds as early as independence day. as in metric tonnage. 401k? this year i might spell that 401t-una. lee

  22. 54 years old and have been in deaths presence many times. human, tragic, death. but three books-one newly read-give me nightmares beyond anything i have experienced with my eyes and ears. many years ago as a teenager i read a true story from glacier. 'night of the grizzlies'. read it once 35 years ago and can still quote passages. terrifying-what that little girl from tucson went thru that incredible night....... 'death in yellowstone'. like being blindsided by a hummer doing 90mph. ugly through and through.... and now 'the devils teeth' about the farallons' white sharks. haven't slept well for 6 days. what the......? i don't recommend any of them. unless your sense of self preservation is quite strong. i have had 20 foot white sharks 10 feet away and 10 foot makos close enough to reach out and touch as they took tuna off my line. night, night, sleep tight, lee
