i was up on the strip with riney back in 1999 when we spotted a chupa stalking in on a 200" 5x5 just before dark on the night before the season. we were just about to cry-neither of us had brought a rifle while scouting-when the chupa made its move. it took exactly 33 seconds for that little chupacabra to finish off that 250 lb tom lion we hadn't noticed crouched in the saddle of a big alligator right over the bucks path. never saw the buck again-he spooked some outa the county-maybe up to park city.... only hair was left-not even a bone, a tooth or the skull of that cat could be found. lee

apoplexy. that is what i got TRYING to read this thread..omg. maybe nausea is a better term for it. an all-around shotgun? that sounds like a freightliner on a dirt track. all-around? the 4 1/2 lb upland special is the only smoothbore i'ld carry into the sahuaritas for quail...the model 12 with an old fixed full choke would work for turkey....brandt shooting down baja or ducks at topolobampo are a joy with an 870 or a red label.... oh and about that fine wood stock...how would you be honoring your prey by shooting a 'shotgun' with a stock made out of the same material they make rubber worms with... save your pennies and invest in fine shotguns-they will never let you down. all-around shotgun? me thinks maybe eleanor o'connor's winchester model 21 20 ga would make nice all-around shotgun. MORE cabernet! lee

New fire starts east of Cibecue ShareShare Print Create a hardcopy of this page Font Size: Default font size Larger font size Posted: Tuesday, June 17, 2014 2:00 pm | Updated: 2:57 pm, Tue Jun 17, 2014. 1 comment A new fire that popped up about four miles east of Cibecue along Cibecue Ridge during the late evening on Monday, June 16, is currently at approximately 40 acres, burning in pinon and juniper with grass understory. According to a press release from Candy Lupe with the Bureau of Indian Affairs Fire Division, the cause of the DeHose Fire is currently under investigation. Four Type 6 engines, a helicopter, air attack and three heavy tankers have been assigned to it, along with numerous firefighters. A radio tower within the burn area of the Rodeo-Chediski Fire is threatened, according to Lupe. There was no containment on it as of June 17. "Fire Crews are working on hand lines and securing the flanks of the fire. Weather is a main concern as red flag conditions are in effect for the Fort Apache Indian Reservation with high winds and low relative humidity forecasted until 9 p.m. today," Lupe said in a press release. For more on this fire, see Friday's Independent. http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/3900/

Metallica's cover of skynyrds' 'tuesdays gone' still gives me goosebumps! Is Metallica’s James Hetfield the New Ted Nugent? By Craig Rosen8 hoursTed Nugent isn't the only gun-loving hard-rocker down with hunting. Metallica frontman James Hetfield is also a gun and hunting enthusiast, so much so, he recently landed a gig narrating the History Channel's The Hunt. The eight-part series, which documents an excursion to Kodiak, Alaska, in search of brown bears, debuts on Sunday. While that news has undoubtedly sent many Metallica mavens straight to their DVRs, some animal lovers are not amused. One such U.K.-based fan has launched a page titled "Remove Metallica from Glastonbury Festival for their support of Bear Hunting" on Facebook. As of this morning, the page had more than 15,000 likes. Launched on May 25, the page's description notes: "Metallica's lead singer James Hetfield is a big game hunter and promoter. This is incompatible with Glastonbury Festivals ideals."Metallica's publicist declined to comment on the matter and said the band would not be addressing the controversy. And the band remains on the lineup of the vaunted British music festival. In a 2009 interview with Guitar World, Hetfield said that he took up hunting to prove "my manhood to myself." Later in the same interview, when asked if he still hunts, he said, "Nowadays it doesn't feel necessary, killing things just to kill them. I'm not against hunting, but it doesn't seem as necessary as going 150 miles an hour in my car now." He added he lost his taste for hunting during a trip to Siberia. "I saw a bear print and it looked pretty human [to me]. I saw something in that that didn’t make much sense to me," he explained. "We were in this four-foot high chicken shack in the middle of nowhere, four-hour helicopter ride out of this sh**ty little town, drinking vodka. There was nothing else to drink. That was the end for me." There's no word if Hetfield has changed his mind about hunting and if his role in the History Channel series extends beyond merely serving as the narrator. Current huntsman or not, Hetfield's love of weapons continues. In a 2013 interview with the band's Orion Festival magazine, he was asked about the gun-control debate. "I love my guns. I love that my dad handed them down to me, and I'm taking care of them," he said. "To me, though, some of the gun laws definitely don’t make any sense, but also the Second Amendment is very important to me. Somewhere in the middle lies the truth. Both sides are operating on a fear base. As an NRA member, I don't think we need to be afraid that if we compromise on some things, [they] are going to change so much. I don’t want to make it easier for someone to have an assault weapon, but I also want to be able to protect my family." As for landing the Glastonbury gig, a note on the band's website says, "Glastonbury is the largest green field festival in the world and over the forty plus years of its existence, a widely diverse group of artists have graced the stage including Paul McCartney, Oasis, David Bowie, U2, Muse, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Neil Young, Jay-Z and so many more. We're psyched and honored to be among the first hard rock bands to hit the Pyramid Stage and join this prestigious group." While others are not, at least for now, Metallica is still scheduled to play the festival, which runs June 25-29.

well now.......... i have shot core-lokts into live animals since 1970. they hold together very well at 75% plus weight retention in 180gr .308 and 130 &150gr .277. i like partitions because of incredible accuracy. but the 130gr .277 core-lokt is a watershed bullet in my little old humble opinion. read some JOC. through-and-through penetration with the core-lokt has been observed for over 40 years by this meat eater. lee
