will never forget one evening down in 36a-the last day of the jr deer hunt in 2000. i had parked the truck and sent the kid out with 'last day-don't come back to camp without a buck' and started glassing the hill sides. heard something behind me and turned to find a fellow in all black, web gear, mp5 and a sidearm. identified himself as border patrol, tracked around my truck, when i told him my son was hunting up the draw he said he already knew that, and just as the sun settled behind the baboquivaris' he walked off to the east into a roadless mesquite canyon towards the sierritas....... just then there was the sound of a .257 Roberts going off and had to get busy so did not think about it what with having to get a buck out in the dark. proving grounds...? steve and ron and wardlow an a few(lol) other buds..............

Frustrated newbie seeking advice
biglakejake replied to Calebwalter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
just a note.....the water tower/tank for municipal Superior has produced a bunch. not suggesting you hunt there just advising that you are not really glassing if you can't see the dirt. coues are not much bigger than...........well....say a big jackrabbit. an old mans take on 24A but i never tagged one in the unit. still trying. also milepost 260 on the hiway(60). lee ps youtub search 'coues' -

consistency is key in handloading. re-tumbo is a great powder for re-peat consistency. 3031 is so old i can't believe it is still on the market.

i've had more scares with rut crazed bulls than anything else. a goofy gray fox once put my .22 in my hand. a slow elk bull went after me on the black river once but i was faster at 15 years old.
