tenacity of life is little spoken of in north america outside of the great bears. only twice in 50+ years in the field have i occasioned to notice it-and not with bears. years past i would have just pm'd Bill Quimby with the tale but i won't git any reply now. this years 3B buck-just a 2 1/2yo 2x3 mulie-made me take some notice. i am not sure if you can say being observed by your quarry is actually a 'stalk' but after closing some distance i braced against a ponderosa to try a shot with the old CVA .50 smokepole. after a 2 or 3 minute staredown he stepped out quartering away like heaven in a blue dress. a 385gr hornady hollow point entered 4" behind his right shoulder and came out like a cannonball at the base of his left neck. 106-110 yards with 100 grns of pyro pellets and he went down, got up and over the next 30 seconds or so he ran hard and fell repeatedly-i was thinking i had just broke a knee-he was just going hard has heck. he went at least 400yds with no lungs-as good of shot as i have ever made. that was sometin'. fattest buck i have ever ever seen. 30+ pounds of cavity fat and a full inch on his back-he looked freakishy fat laying on the ground and was pushing 200lbs live weight-tastes great! the closest things i have ever seen to that tenacity was a boar javalina that i shot in the neck and he ran 100yds past the end of his blood trail down peppersauce canyon circa 1993. there was this scaled quail my son knocked down about 5:30pm, i twisted his neck and bagged him but he flew out of the bag about 6pm in the dark. weird. lee

oh to be young again. those little boats will take you into amazing adventures. high winds meant port master Augustin would not let us launch the big offshore boats at cholla. so we grabbed dads little 12ft/15hp at los conchas and launched at tucson beach. many good trips-and so was the time we dumped it coming back to the beach-good memories all. grouper, sardinero, hammerhead, corvina. stalking big bass at saguaro all night in a 12 footer-will never know how big some of those released bass were. we were 13-16yo then. just 10 years ago in a 13ft gregor having 100 fish nights-all on topwater-at roosevelt. just have fun. life jackets and a cell phone in a baggie helps. lee not me

What rifle caliber is most common for coues deer hunting in AZ?
biglakejake replied to THREEDFLYER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
i think i remember a time back say 90's into early Y2K's when you were not a REAL coues master unless you shot the .30/378 Wby. did all those rifles go to Africa or what-maybe an excuse for a roll call? 257 AI or 280 AI. how 'bout a m99 in 250-3000 w a tang peep sight. NOT common-who wants to be common? lee -
just stop at any camp in 34, 35 or 36 after dark and ask 'anybody got a tape'. but it better be a decent buck or they will shrink your head. lee

nothing here. don't remember getting down, getting across the river and back to the truck, don't remember getting home. you will have to ask the other guy-he's a lurker here but he's got nothin' to say either. all i remember is it was my fault my route and how pissed our moms were gonna be when we ran out of dirt and there was nothing left but air. lee
