how bad can weekends be?....... http://976-tuna.com/audios/71149 4600 tuna for yesterdays totals

agreed. but. what do you do about the line twist? i have seen yellowtail caught on spinners and when the fish was gaffed the line pressure went away. with the pressure off the line bloomed off the spool into a birdnest the size of softball. lee ps system would not allow me to send this to you as personal message

several forum members will be on the water the next couple weekends. all the on-the-water reports are calling for 20lb mono w 20lb floro topshot and a little #2 live bait hook. the yft top out at 25# and the bft to 50#. an sl20 class narrow reel and a 7' 12-30lb class stick looks like a necessity. the trick is to get bit-pick that liveliest bait in the handwell-and don't worry 20#/#2 will catch lots of tuna under 30lbs. keep the 40 and 50# rigs close and good luck. i still wouldn't play with spinners but i'm old and old skool. lee

when did you shoot your first big game animal
biglakejake replied to catfish's topic in Youth Hunters
1974 i was 14. fork mule deer at saguaro lake above the guest ranch. my right hand was all busted and in a cast from a fistfight and i was shooting dad's pre64m70 30/06 left handed. one shot. $20 k-mart scope that dad just hated seeing on his rifle-'kid you don't need that shoot'. bob kyhn and i were too young to drive so mom dropped us off in the dark and then later bob hitched a ride to the marina and called mom to come get us. lee -

Hells Half Acre 2006 along about 1968 that fellow there Bob Kyhn and i started hunting lizards and snakes around far east mesa. by the end of the 1970's we had hunted, trapped and fished our way across every rock in eastern Arizona. Bob was there for my first mulie and i was there for his first Coues deer. i almost got us killed during a spring scouting trip in the goldfields about 1975 but Bob saved the day. the 1980's brought us both brides and kids followed by a new passion. Bob got sheep fever, i started suffering from tuna fever and we both hunted hard. i moved back to Arizona in 1993, bought some good glass and got this great mentor who guided for Duwane Adams. evil grin. had some times from Bill Williams mountain to Four Bar Mesa and down to Sasabe. this 2006 bull is one i can never forget. Bob and Rex Cullifer worked their butts off for free getting me the shot on this old bull with 58" of mass. lots of character, not much score, couldn't have been happier. when we started looking at the bulls in this country Bob wanted to make sure i could get the job done at 500yds with my pre64 30/06. it was about shooting light plus 2 minutes when a 16yo friend of Bobs eyeballed it and Mr. Kyhn said "6x6 474yds". i set up on my tripod with a Webster bino strap mount on it(remember those?) and started to squeeze a nosler partition off when a car alarm started gioing off about 600yds up the hill. really. i closed the deal with one shot, it took over 7 hours to get the packs out and the novice father and son Bob and Rex invited helped make the day. i was recovering from a pinched nerve and they had to tie my left hand to the bulls antler as i packed the head out on my back. can not get any better. this was a long time ago but its all about the good friends who made it possible-all i had to do was make the shot. i was hoping not to disappoint them. i can't take pics or write like Amanda or Bill Quimby but i gave it a shot. i'll never get to do it again. lost track of Bob when he ended up in the hamberlin camp. lee

a point to remember about processing-the weight they charge you for is the whole fish in the round-the finished product is only 33% to 40% of that. safeway has just gorgeous ahi steaks all year round for $9.99/lb. i don't think i ever brought tuna steaks home to Arizona for less than a combined $20.00/lb. and if you are not into seafood no cleaning charges-somebody will take every pelagic fish you want to give away. the crew usually sells the skipjack for lobster and crab bait. and it doesn't cost anything to donate tuna to the galley. lee i just scanned in some old photos-a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away............ 25lb and 40lb rigs minimum. if you have heavier take it but don't rent it. leave the lighter stuff at home. don't go out with old line. 3/0 hooks live bait or circle. could be chilly. no ice chests allowed on the boats. scopolamine patches. good luck! lee ps master the palomar knot if you have not already

time to go fishing. took long enough. just a note on how to get a really good trip. for the experienced sticks like HEAT and Recurve, and others, and if you can roll within 24 hours-like having a very open schedule to get away-get your name and cell to the landings. let them know you can fill out a charter. usually a little more expensive but great groups and fewer anglers. chartermasters are always getting stiffed and the first place they call is the landing. might be with the pomona valley lady anglers or the 29 palms mp's or discount tire managers. never dissapoints. luck. lee wind some line and burn some gas boys 'n girls

Well I had the opportunity to shake the hand of one of our last remaining WWII veterans this morning. I thanked him for his service and noticed he had a POW license plate. He was an airborne soldier captured by the nazis in Sept 1944 during operation Market-Garden(A Bridge Too Far) and spent 6 months in a stalag. God Bless him. lee

at work i met a udt frogman 3 years ago. went in the water at Pearl, Normandy and Iwo Jima. my dad was at Hickam field on dec 7 and landed with the marines on the guadalcanal' as 1 of 117 SeaBees on the first day. he did the duration on guadalcanal and bougainville. fellow here in show low i bought a pickup from was a sub driver on the USS Barwood. it famously took a 4 inch jap shell right through the conning tower off taiwan and then sailed 2,000 miles back to Australia on the surface. if they dove most of the electric systems would short out with the flooded tower. he didn't tell me that-i read it in Clay Blairs' Silent Victory with all the patrol reports from the pacific war. he was shocked-he thought ii was still top secret!!! a Corsair pilot was in dad's carpool to Luke in the '60's but thats all i know of Mitch. my uncle Cecil lost a leg on Heartbreak Ridge in Korea and drank himself to death. Bless them All. and they never had anything much to say about it all. lee
