boy i miss that stretch of highway along sycamore. mom or even dad would pull off along the creek to cool out the old yellow ford wagon and we would play in the creek in the 60s/70s. Gib Duthie or the other hiway patrol officers would always stop and stay with us until the ford was ready to head on up to overgaard. lee

Isn’t this how like half the bulls in unit 22 get killed?-quoting Flatlander awhile ago. i had a 22north rifle bull tag and we hunted/glassed from rimtop overlooks. each and every azgfd officer/manager we queried repeated the same thing-i had to make the shot from under the rim crest to be legal. the only point of contention was other groups of hunters who thought fr300 was the boundary-it is not!. i hope i am not repeating something here already-my apologies if i did. lee

roughin' it here.. my favorite author all-time jim harrison excused his rich, game meat diet by repeating a mantra the last 15 years. 'eat or die'. it works good only as an excuse however. tonight sea of cortez triggerfish fillets over rotini with my marinara/olive oil/chili sauce-starting to get the shakes gotta get to it. tomorrow night venison tenderloin with butter sauteed poblanos and garlic cloves. a crock pot of elk chilli goes on monday morning. the dr says i am depressed and gotta find something that interests me like wood carving. idiot. lee

Navajo County Sheriff's Office sends our condolences to the Bob and Cathy Varner Family of Winslow. Cathy died on October 30, 2019 and was laid to rest today in Winslow. Members of the Navajo County Sheriff's Office attended the funeral today to show appreciation for everything Cathy has done for NCSO. Cathy is the widow of fallen NCSO Deputy Bob Varner who was killed in the line of duty on January 2, 1989. Cathy was a strong advocate for line of duty death survivor families throughout Arizona. Cathy never missed the AZ Law Enforcement memorial in Phoenix every May to support her fallen husband Bob and other fallen heroes in AZ. Thank you Cathy for all you did to support Law Enforcement families throughout Navajo County and AZ.

i don't know why i am always making a fool of myself on here. late night psychosis i guess. 2am and the mule deer buck in the backyard is keeping me up crunching acorns. a game. only 1 rule: if you have to check on the computer why would you answer the question? what beverage was given the moniker 'navajo coke' ? who were the 'crazy boatmen of Arizona'? paul mantz was a household name and the most famous of hollywood stunt pilots. how, where in AZ did he die? what was the message the old navajo asked aldrin and armstrong to give the ancient spirits when they landed on the moon? (probably made up by johnny carson...) where was Sonora, AZ? (i first heard of it at my llanteria in east LA circa 1990.) good night. marshall trimble is the man-i have heard him cover most of these. lee

Bisbees. another tackle shop in orange county that has no prices posted. the Duke fished out of bisbees- their boat is 'true grit'. other that the ricky schroeder phenomenon it always seemed like millionaires catching float choppers out to battlewagons after a grander was hooked. you know-hamberlin sheit.................... the youngster last year was another attempt to be 'mainstream'. not buying it. lee -

additional reading but by no means a complete listing Arizonas' Dark and Bloody Ground by Earle Forrest Cowboys Under the Mogollon Rim by Slim Ellison(just references) Arizonas' Graham Tewksbuy Feud, They Shot Billy Today, and Black Mesa by Leland Hanchett A Little War Of our Own by Don Dedera(controversial myth-busting tale-don't mention Don or the book in Young EVER.) To the Last Man by Zane Grey(fiction) To the Last Man a 1992 James Arness/Gunsmoke tv movie(fiction) The Pleasant Valley War by Jinx Pyle lee ps Black Mesa by Lee Hanchett is about the three cowboys lynched near present-day black canyon lake-Stott, Scott and Wilson. you can purchase Leland Hanchetts' books at Rim Resort in Forest Lakes.

JACK did you find any fence staples in there?-i cannot see any. how about files-i see that rasp-for working steel? thinking maybe a long-line trappers stash. back in the day everybody had pans for spring runoff but pickins' were slim. they would pack food for 2 or 3 days but cache their gear along the route. just a thought. lee

this story ends with the battle of big dry wash which was the last real 'battle' with an organized apache group. it was during the battle of big dry wash that the third well know scout made a name for himself through his gallantry-apache kid. after that kid became siebers' second in command of the scouts over time. lee ps in the most ironic of coincidences this apache party rode up to the john tewksbury place during a bloody seige by the grahams and blevins cowboys. the apache left.
