after a 12 hour flight from Auckland to LA, and a 1 hour flight to Phoenix, and a 4 hour drive to the white mountains, and then another two hour drive back off the rim, i arrived at my sites around 2.30 am this morning. i was just hoping my cameras survived the first few seasons. here's what I found. this buck first showed up in June. Here's what I have of him through the year so far. I think he's young, with potential to be an absolute freak of nature in a few years. I was thinking I'd call him "clubs" since his antlers resembled a driver and irons in a golf bag. then finally hard horned. With all the palmation visible in this photo, I was thinking of changing what I call him to "Rosey Palms", for uh... obvious reasons. It'd be hard to let him grow a few more years if he walks in front of me on December 11th. But I'd also be happy with one of these guys too. enjoy.

Yeah, Brian, it's just the picture. I've got good pics of both bucks. I was thinking what you are though, about passing on the NT and letting it grow. it's a pretty secluded area he's in... but you never know who else has or might stumble on to him also.

i love those big three points without the back forks... they almost look "cousey"

I would imagine that drought and predators are a bigger issue for the quantity of animals than is access to feed and minerals. but I may be wrong. if you're on private land, have at it, long as it's legal. you'll probably get lots of outa staters willing to come sit on a manged feeder and shoot a coues buck with a bow. I'd venture a guess that most residents take pride in not hunting like that though. even with salt licks and sitting water, most'll do it a fair ways off from the nearest two tracker, and after having put in much sweat equity and time in getting the site set up.

Beau, I got a buddy up there in southeastern idaho that owns some land and hunts elk every year. from what I can tell, they don't typically get as large up there, but you can hunt at least. he's also got a few other wilderness areas that he likes to go to that he's seen bigger bulls in upwards of 350 - 370. You can also hunt deer at the same time, so that's something to think about. I'll give him a call next month and see if he can point you in the right direction, if not let you hunt his land. Jay

What contributes most to harvesting MONSTER BUCKS
JMP replied to coues7's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
that's just the thing. whats the deal with needing credit? there's something called left handed clapping. it goes a long way. in terms of credit... the guys I give the most to are the guys who kill big deer and don't feel that they need credit from anyone else. Many hunters, who kill many big deer year after year, don't bother with these types of forums, or sending pictures out in emails to everyone in the world, cos they don't need the accolades. there's something wise in that. they're the guys that say more in 10 words than most others do in 100. you clue in to that, and you join good, respected company. -

what would be more interesting, is if someone could actually one day stand up and say "Hey, you told the truth!!"

Health Care Bill Info from congress
JMP replied to az4life's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I especially like #30 - Expanding Home Ownership. We all know where that one has got us (along with many of the laughable accomplishments, like reforming tax legislation... are you kidding? how is changing your own rules an accomplishment?) And I would argue that the success of the the state run Fish and Game programs comes largely from the fact that they are funded by those who use them. Compare them to waste of the US Fish and Wildlife Service. If a state wants to offer middle class universal health care, then so be it... let the state do it. It's not the place of the federal government. bottom line. -
Health Care Bill Info from congress
JMP replied to az4life's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
nor does this include the money people from these other countries spend in the U.S. accessing our health care system, which is, depending on which estimate, anywhere from $5-15 billion per year. so much so, that hospitals are setting up offices for consultations in foreign countries. -
nlacost on this site shot it last december... 132 and change I believe. he'd be able to say exactly.

i wonder how many new forums we really need. especially when there's no specific content to draw me to it. MM is full of guys that love mule deer. This site is full of guys that love coues deer. what this new forum really for? I don't get anything out of it. or the other one, I got an PM on this site to get me to check out, was some dude and his wife looking pretty in deer t-shirts in southern california... was kinda more soft porn than anything. um.... thanks but no thanks.

I don't know that I'd call them a crossbreed, a sub-species, just like the coues or a texas whitetail. just inhabit a different area. At least that's what I got from the Leonard Lee Rue book, or maybe Hefelfinger's.... I forget.

I'm glad they're working for you cmc, hope to see more pics in the future!!

i'm going to get rid of my Pentax spotter. It's 8 months old. I paid $600 for it on sale. It comes with a 20-60x eyepeice and is a straight body. Scope has been well cared for, glass is good. been housed in the case and in the field 4 times. $300 shipped to your door. Scope is in the white mountains, I'm in Chandler till tomorrow afternoon. would prefer a paypal payment. email me or call if you have any questions about it. Jay 480-270-9867 It looks like this one:

Poached Elk and Stolen Apache Trout
JMP replied to azhuntergirl's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
there's scum everywhere. you want to see scum... look around you. i don't think anyone should characterize people in eagar/springerville as scum because animals are poached up there (though the st. johns comment is pretty accurate ). animals get poached in the desert too. it probably was kids, but it coulda been kids from anywhere. there's lots of city folk up there that time of year... probably more city kids than locals. thing is, if you don't know for sure, then keep your mouth shut. if you do know for sure, call the game thief hotline.
