    What's Yours?

This is my 2003 unit 9 rifle bull scored 384 and change
  3. Me and my good friend Tracy decided to head out and about this weekend to do some varmit calling, since it was the last weekend for bobcats and foxes. Our first set, after about 5 minutes of calling, we had three coyotes that came in, which Tracy dropped one at about 250 yards with his 22-250. We then moved to another location that looked extreamly good, and started a 2nd set, as we were sititng and watching, before the 1st blow of the call, A big bodied mule deer stood up from its bed just about 20 yards from us out of a wash, and proceeded to walk away... so far its been a great morning. It started to warm up pretty quickly, and then we decieded to go for a drive a little father up north, to get into more cooler weather. We did some sets up in the pines with no luck. We tried to go up a road that was covered with ice and snow, and unfortunatly we were unable to travel to where we wanted to, Thankfully. We were then driving to another location, where we passed a little atv trail. As we passed the trail all I saw was a tail, and the 1st thing that went of into my mind, was a coyote. I then shouted coyote and tracy stopped the truck and we bailed out of it as fast as possible. We were walking down this trail to hopefully find or at least see this coyote, At 1st I thought I heard some movement to the right, so I stopped to head back to check it out, as I turned I caught the glimpse of a body part. and As I stepped back to take a look at it, I was looking into the eyes of a mountain lion, in the pounced position about 5 feet from me. I then pulled up my rifle and fired!!!! The Lion imediatly rolled over spun around and took off through the thick manzanita brush. We then waited about 15-20 minutes before heading back in there. With both of our pistols drawn we followed the blood trail for about 45 minuts. This area was so thick that it took us that long to only travel about 30-40 yards. We found the cat and I am still extreamly excited, Its not the biggest lion, but it is my first. Thankfully I had my marlin 450 lever action which has iron sights and it allowed me to aim extreamly quickly. I am the one on the left.

The best thing you could possiably do, that you wont regret in the future, is to concentrate on your elk hunt 110%, Dont waste your time on anything else, and i promise you that you blonde friend will be there when you get back, I will take care of her for you, dont worry she will be in good hands......
  16. Great Odance of Raven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I know this isnt a coues. But me and a good friend of mine, went hunting in unit 20A, I spotted a small buck, little 2x2, but he has 2 seperate main beams on each side...Since my friend has a unit 8 bull tag, he had no problem trying to take a small buck, I wanted to wait for something a little bigger,so off we went...we then got in position, I ranged him at 35yards.....the buck was looking directly at us....He let his arrow fly, and struck him directly in the chest. The buck ran off and dropped within about 70 yards..... He sure will be good eating.... I will post pics as soon as possiable.

    Archery elk success

What happens with a bull like that, is he was fighting and had his skull cap broke, from there as the bull feeds and drinks the weight of the antler falls down, once he heals from it, the antler starts to come straight foward. It still amazes me, even with that the antler still knows how to grow back as normal.....Great bull.
  20. Sorry I know this isnt Coues, but look at this monster!!!!

    Lucky finds

yup its that time of year again.....little peski coyotes are going down, missed one in unit 8 was walking and kicked him up, shot 3 times why he was on the run oh well... shot 2 10 feet from each other one time, it was windy, saw one walking, dropped it, saw another come up out of a wash, didnt know which way the shot came from due to the wind, and dropped that one at about 10 yards....

    Got my deer yesterday

i agree with you guys about the mechanicals, I have never used them, nor do i ever plan on it, I have a friend of mine that shoots them, and he has lost several deer, its not good when you wound a deer and end up not getting it, I have always used fixed blades with great satisfaction, He shot a deer a week ago, a little mulie, the arrow went straight into his chest about 10 inches....and fell right back out, this arrow hit no bone, nothing just flesh.....if it wasnt for hitting the jugular, not too sure how much damage it would of done....i just dont believe in them, I finally talked him into using a fixed blade for his archery bull hunt......you just need something with more duriability and cut on contact..... happy hunting and may your arrows fly straight......
