I have a 62stc, it is pretty nice. It has a camera on it, I think 5mp. I like to use the camera for scouting. The pictures (along with routes, tracks, wpts) upload to Garmin's Base Camp. I like to make notes with the photos, makes scouting notes after the fact a lot easier. I used to use my camera and try to coordinate the image number with the wpts, but the unit does all that. I am probably to techy, but it is nice to reference one of the pictures to refresh my memory as to why I like that spot. It also is really quick to get position and is pretty darn accurate in heavy tree canopy. I don't know if it is the best GPS, but I like it. I'm not a big fan of Garmin's proprietary programing, but I like how you can go from the Map Source or Base Camp program to view your wpts or tracks in Google Earth. Plus, the fact a techy friend figured out how to get Map Source and Base Camp for free, but I think that loop hole was discovered and closed.

I know a bit about this episode through folks I know. Idiot #1 is just that, idiot. There was no game management here, well not wild game management. The bear was a captive bear used in professional photographer sessions to capture "wild bear" pictures for magazines. This Greenly guy has a property nicely set up to get wildlife photos in a realistic situations. Greenly has (had) this bear that was very old and was missing teeth, he requested to have this animal uthanized from the USDA, where he holds a exhibitors license. USDA was okay with this request as the bear's health was deteriorating, but not the way he did it. Do to the way he decided to "uthanize" this bear, went against the USDA veterinary care, FWS Lacey Act, and Minnesota DNR policy and laws. It is amazing he isn't in jail, only $15000.00 poorer. FWS fined him the $15k and USDA had his exhibitors license revoked by court order. However, his revocation is in appeal and still operates today. This is no way a procedure followed for game management. Just a guy trying make a buck and making it look like a real hunt. It is hard to believe Gentry went with that lie. Well DHS is a large Department, that encompasses other agencies within it. It isn't to surprising to me that DHS has purchased these guns and ammo. As the U.S. Coast Guard is part of DHS too and they are a militarized agency. They used the weapons described. I have heard a lot of enforcement agencies are making big purchases to keep thier supplies adequate, due the current buy up of the similar ammo. Also, a lot of federal agencies have armed law enforcement officers for certain protections and/or criminal investigations. Which might explain ammo purchases in seemingly unlikely agencies. Like AZLance eluded too, they all have to practice too and maintain certifications annually. That uses up a lot of ammo. I've seen the Marine SSgt interview, before....yeah scary. Makes me think about the PATRIOT Act, bye bye civil liberties.

I would recommend you read up on bows on AT, figure out which one(s) you like and find a shop that carries them, then shoot 'em. I think a comfortable grip is very important, if it don't feel good, move on, because you if you have to focus on getting that right feel every time you draw that string, you're not going to feel confident. I got back into archery for years, then got me my first bow since I was a kid, which was a Parker. It was a nice bow, kill lots of animals, but wanted to up grade to a speed bow. I narrowed it to a Hoyt, Bowtech, and Mathews (bows carried in my area). Some of my hunting buddies told me to go with the Bowtech Invasion. I shot it and it was nice but felt weird, and the draw cycle was harsh. Shot the Hoyt bows and liked them, but the one I like was out of my price range, the Carbon Element. I tried the Bowtech Destroyer 350, and I couldn't believe how well I shot it and the grip felt good. This bow was very easy to tune, for me anyway. Never shot the Mathews, don't care for the hype, but that is me. Good luck in your search.

A 3 blade Rage did this and it was not a desired hit. However, the arrow went through flank and took out both femoral arteries. I got lucky.

He should be able to load a TOPO to his Etrex. I have a Garmin Etrex Legend and can load a TOPO of Wisconson on mine. I haven't read where anyone has downloaded MapSource from GPSfileDepot, only to get maps. This is possible without having the MapSource key to start or run the program. I left my Western Mapsource in AZ and couldn't install Mapsource on my new laptop. But discovered I could get the program from GPSFileDept for free. I like this version for MapSource better than what came with the Garmin. There is a cool feature that will allow you to view your wpts, routes, and tracks in Google Earth. That is cool. I've used this feature to see some of my favorite haunts in 27....burn.

I have the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FZ 35, it is a great mid sized camera, known as a bridge camera (between the DLSR and point and shoot). I had a FZ18 (great camera too), prior to the 35, it is a 8 mb camera with 18x zoom and the 35 is 12mb. I selected this LUMIX camera because it is compact and shoots real similar to the DSLR's. It is the only model in this camera style I found that has the option of recording RAW format, so you can post process like a DSLR. I bought both cameras for under $300 from Amazon.com. I upgraded from the 18 to 35 because the 35 can zoom in and out while video mode and it is HD. The optical zoom of 18x is equivalent to 486mm lens, best part is not packing around extra lens. These compact cameras don't always take great pictures in low light conditions, but if you learn to use the manual settings, you can take some great pictures. There are some fine camera products out there, but after a LOT of research, I picked this camera for the RAW capability, nice feel for larger hands, and records to SD card fast. There have been studies conducted on this very subject on eastern whitetail bucks. I know you are asking about mule deer bucks, but I would think each species share enough genes to be comparable.
