After seeing Phil's and Jimmy Parkers Outdoorsman packs in Mexico a couple years ago and had to have one for myslef. I love it and couldn't be more happy with it. As mentioned it's the perfect pack system for us western hunters.

TJ, There is a best field photo section that can be a cow or a bull, and there is also a best spirit of the hunt section that you didn't even have to kill an elk to enter. So yes you can enter your cow elk or even if you didn't tag an elk you can still send pic's for the spirit of the hunt section. Good luck to all!!!

Just a reminder that in order to be entered in the contest you must email me your pic's! Simply posting pic's in the forums DOES NOT COUNT!!! Email me your pic's and get entered into the contest!!! themaddockcamp@cox.net Thanks, Tim Maddock

I keep looking at the pic's on my phone and computer over and over again but the truth is they don't come close to being there in person. Congratulations again on a stud bull and thanks for letting me tag along and enjoy the adventure first hand.

My 11 year old son Kade and I had the opportunity to go hunt New Mexico for antelope with one of my friends and his son this past weekend. We hunted about 40 miles north of Roswell and had a great time. We left Thursday night and got to the ranch early Friday morning and scouted all day. The ranch held plenty of antelope and none of us were realy picky... pretty much any antlelope would do. After my friends son made a nice 300 yard shot on his buck it was Kade's turn. A decent buck was located and the stalk was on! Not long after we followed the buck he laid down in a wash bottom facing us so the only way to close the distance would be a long hike to get behind him so for the sake of time (we had 4 bucks to kill in one day!) we opted to find another that would present us with a less time consuming stalk. It wasn't 20 minutes later and we had another buck chasing 4 does and the stalk was on again! After one failed opportunity the group didn't move far so we were able to change positions and close the distance to 435 yards. It took several attempts to find a comfortable shooting lane throuch the grass and cactus but finally Kade was able to settle in. When the buck finally came to a stop and turned broadside I gave the ok to squeeze off a shot. The 210 grain JLK bullet from my 300 RUM pounded the buck so hard I could see the shock waves move through his body through my spotting scope. There was no doubt this buck was dead! After a short walk Kade was able to claim his first ever antelope and only his second ever big game animal. Congratulations son on a great buck and some memories that will last a life time!!!

Congrats on a fine looking speed goat! How did the bullet perform?

My 2011 Archery Elk Hunt 1st Season
TAM replied to jamaro's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Way to go hard! Thanks for sharing -
I got the 6.5x284 dialed in consistantly shooting groups in the .25" range, but when I took it out to do my long range work I quickly discovered that I was not getting repeatable clicks on the scope turret. So when I dialed the scope for various yardages sometimes it would go where I wanted it and sometimes it wouldn't! Looks like I may need a new scope? Lucky for us the 300 RUM is always good to go

Thanks everyone! Yes the gun has a brake and Kade shoots it very well. He's been practicing with it shooting a 10" steel gong out to 600 yards for the past year and a half and we both have a lot of confidence in his shooting. He has a youth deer/javelina hunt coming up in a few weeks which we hope to turn into another great time!

It was just a scruffy bald patch on that side. Really don't know why it was that way? The hair on the other side was fine... except that it had a pretty good size exit hole and a lot of blood so we were forced to use the scruffy side for pic's.

Congratulations again on a great archery buck! Charlie spent nearly twelve hours in the baking sun looking for for his trophy. He busted his butt and by the time Blake and I got there he was both physically and mentally exhausted. His commitment to find this buck should be an example to us all! Way to stick it out when most other guys would have gone home!!!

Looks like you had a great time... Congratulations on a great buck! I've got a glassing crew very similar to yours and by the end of the day they're all so sunburnt they can hardly move and so dirty you have to beat the dust off them like an old door mat. Good times!!!

I for one don't believe that when a cat is around then all the deer and elk leave. I have personally watched a lion in Mexico walk within 30 yards or so of a doe and a fawn and they just kept feeding. I don't think either knew the other was there. Another time in Mexico I watched three lions stalk, kill, and eat a javelina all while a lone doe fed some 200-300 yards away. I was watching from 600 yards and could hear the pig squeal so I know the doe could hear it as well. She was on full alert and kept looking towards the sounds but just kept feeding. While archery elk hunting in unit 10 last year we watched a lion walk within a couple hundred yards of some antelope in an area that held about 300 head of elk. I think a more likley senario to your situation is that the elk have transitioned from their summer habits to their pre-rut or even rut habits and therefore aren't coming in to your camera anymore. I think the lion walking by when it did is pure coincidence. But it's all just my opinion

A buddy of mine asked me to help him sell this rifle. It's a used Lazzeroni 7.82(.308)Warbird. This rifle was purchased (used) from a gun shop in Mesa AZ and has not been fired by it's new owner. It was originally acquired to use for a custom build but my buddy has since gone another route. It is built on a Sako M995 action and has a 26 inch barrel with muzzle break. It has a removable box magazine. I am not sure what kind of stock or trigger it has but both seem to be of good quality. Since it was purchesed as a project rifle there is no ammo or brass to be included with the sale. What you see in the pic's is what you get minus the tail gate on my truck! The rifle itself seems to be in very good shape. There are minor signs of normal wear and tear but nothing that would indicate any abuse or neglect. Asking $1,150 Thank you! Tim (928)533-8807

Sorry no trades... just cash

It aint cheap but anyone that hunts the west the way most of us hunt for coues should take a serious look at the Outdoorsmans pack's. Strong, comfortable, and can carry all your stuff plus a cut up deer. Pretty sure they are a sponsor of this site as well. Good luck!

Will do Chef... probably later today when I get some time.

My buddy just brought by his Lazzeroni in .308 Warbird that he asked me to try and sell for him. Let me know if you're interested.

I think he's a booner book buck! I came up with numbers very similar to Sir Royal's perhaps even a tad bigger on the length and prongs. He looks familiar too! If he's from around here I may have pictures of him from a year or two ago.

I just found out that I got one of them left over border unit tags in October. I'm going to do a solo backpack hunt just a few miles north of the Mexico border... heard there's lots of mules in the area I'll be hunting. Do you think I could pay one of them to pack my deer out?
-
I'm gonna get one of those no good left over tags down by the border that is over run with illegals and drug runners in a unit that I've never set foot in. Of course it will be an October tag when it's too hot for any big deer to be out during hunting light and I'll have to backpack in a few miles and climb over 1,000 vertical feet. Just me, my pack, my rifle and a mile long ridge to glass off both sides for three days.

Just curious... Was your Brother in law that passed away by any chance Mike? Spent a lot of time in 24B with him.
