I've always had Southwestern game processing grind mine up into sausage with good results. They have several different styles available. Breakfast sausage, Italian susage, Polish sausage, Brautwaurst, etc.

Don't forget the Sasquatch's they're very scary!!! Lions don't really scare me and neither do illegal's, it's the drug smugglers. However, since I don't really do much hunting down south it's not a big concern for me. Up in some of the northern parts of the state where I do spend a lot of time there is a growing problem with the drug farmers. Those guys scare me! I don't think they'll hesitate to shoot someone for stumbling into their pot farms. I've heard that many of the major Mexican and South American drug cartels are the ones funding them because it's becoming more and more difficult to smuggle drugs across the boarder. These guys are bad news!

I just spoke with the owner of JJ trailers this evening. They have started to build the tandems and have already sold their first three. The tandems will have a 17 foot bed of which 12 feet will be tent with the other 5 feet being open like a front porch with an awning. They will be able to hold 4 quads. If you want one they are available now, you just have to wait while they build it. If anyone's interested send me an email and I'll put you in touch with the owner.

Mike, you hit on another issue for me......... meal time. During hunts, even if I'm tail gate camping I still eat out of a can and make it a point to make as little mess as possible. For me camping is the time for camp fires and BBQ'd steak, but not while hunting. During the hunt I don't like to deal with the mess of fancy meals and the chores that go along with them. Same thing with fires, I'd rather go to bed and get the extra sleep than sit around a smokey fire.

Shortpants and COOSEFAN's adventure
TAM replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Great story and nice buck! Congratulations and thanks for sharing. -
For the most part I never have campfires in hunting camp. I don't like smelling like one.

I think I probably own every coues deer hunting video ever made and this one is by far the best yet!!! Treestandman let me barrow his copy last night and I loved it!!! There are some real good bucks taken in both Arizona and Mexico. The video quality is really good and I think pretty much every shot is captured in detail. I liked it so much I just placed my order with Amanda for my own copy! It was good to Jimmy Vincent is still punching holes in some good bucks as well. I haven't seen him in awhile now, but he used to be one of my clients down in Tucson.

Just what we all need!!! More laws + more government programs = BIGGER GOVERNMENT = HIGHER TAXES!!!! Lets do it! Seriously, sometimes less is better!

I've got a 2002 Sportsman 500 which has been real good to me. I've never had any trouble with it except for torn boots on the CV joints. I agree that they do seem to be cold blooded. In the winter I just let it warm up for about 5-10 minutes before I leave.

Hey Scott, sorry to get off topic here, but can you tell me if there's a gas station at Three Way? I seem to recall a gas station or convience store there at the SE corner but I can't remember. Thanks.

I shot a mule deer in New Mexico a few years ago at 380. Dropped him on the spot.

Every time the topic of proficiency testing comes up everyone automaticly starts thinking archery. What about all the rifle and muzzleloader hunters out there that can't hit what they're aiming at either. Why do the archery hunters always get singled out?

Nice work Scott!!! Did you see any other deer during the trip? I'll be out there next week looking for one myself.

Great buck! Another fine example of how a little pre season scouting pays off bigtime! Thanks for sharing.

It's one thing to sit around a camp fire and tell stories with your buddies. To go out of your way to post pic's on the internet and make up stories about them as if they were fact............... LOOSER!!!

Which model is it, the Sport or the Pulse? Call me. 602-538-1097 Thanks, Tim

There is no screen on the frond door, only screens on all the windows. The reason for no screen in the front door is because people forget there is a screen there and walk through it and break it. The windows offer plenty of ventelation.

Aside from the early rifle bull tags, I'll bet percentage wise there are more big bulls shot during the archery hunts then during the late rifle bull hunts. Just my guess.

I don't road hunt myself, or hunt in the vacinity of roads, so for me I kind of feel like they're doing me a favor. First of all it's less competition in my hunting spots off the roads, and second they will push the animals away from the roads which happens to be where I'm hunting. To me road hunters are a good thing! Now a lot of you seem to not like e-scouters as well, but most e-scouters are road hunters or close to it and we already know that they're helping us not hurting us. So what's the big deal? Road hunters and e-scouters? Who cares, they're like dung beatles............ someone's got to eat the $hit!

It seems like a lot of people today feel the need to put laws in place that govern every bit of our lives. Much of what they want to regulate should be regulated by our own consious and or common sense. I don't think we need more rules or laws, we simply need to use good judgement. As mentioned above, common sense seems to be on the decline these days. Many people don't think of the consequences their actions may result in before they do it.

A good portion of my scouting and hunting is done solo. Often times the time alone in the outdoors is very theraputic and refreshing. There are certainly some additional percautions when hunting alone like telling someone exactly where you'll be. As mentioned above it can be good for the soul. I think it's a great way to test your strength of mind. I once hunted elk for 9 days, 6 of wich I was alone. I really had to have a lot of will power to get up early, hunt hard, pass on smaller bulls, etc. I think the experience made me a better hunter and a better person. I also like hunting with others. It's especially nice to have people back at camp to talk to and help with the chores. For me the best of both worlds is to be alone in the field but have friends back at camp. As far as keeping track of your animal after you shot it? I've never had much of a problem with it. Most of the time after the shot there's another deer or two standing around looking into the patch of grass where the buck was just standing. If that's the case your buck is usually laying there on the ground. Just get a good land mark and work your way towards it. If your deer runs off before dieing your going to have to track it in which case you'll still need to mark it's last known location to get there. It's always a good idea to mark your shooting postion, but I don't like the idea of leaving your stuff there. I once did that and by the time I was ready to go back for my Swarovski 15x56's and I had a REAL hard time finding them again in the dark! I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about all this stuff anyway. I usually worry more about all the man eating Sasquatch's running around looking for solo hunters!!!!

Several years ago in unit 31 on an October coues hunt I was glassing a canyon where we had seen quite a few deer including a big non typical buck before the hunt. About an hour before dark I had yet to see a deer when I caught movement of a good sized bear working it's way down the canyon. Even at a great distance I could hear the bear as it worked it's way down. It made a very noisy approach tumbling rocks, and stomping through dry crackling brush, cracking branches, etc. Once at the bottom of the canyon it climbed into a large juniper and proceeded to feed on berries until dark. At this point the bear was only about 400 yards away and made all kinds of racket as he climbed the tree, broke big branches, and just made a lot of noise! The same bear came in the next morning, and then again the next evening. I saw one spike buck in that canyon during those two days I was there. My point is that bear are often times noisy creatures. Regardless of wether or not they pose any threat to the deer, I just don't think that deer like to be in the same areas where there is a lot of noise and commotion going on. I think coues deer like quiet areas away from anything that will create any disturbance.

I own one of the first JJ trailers ever built. In fact it was one of there protypes and test models. My brother used to work for them fabricating the steel, welding, and assembling the trailers. He had a lot of say in how they were built, and he doesn't build junk. About 4 years ago he hooked me up with one of the owners of the company and I was able to buy one of the originals. Before I bought the trailer it had been on numerous hunting trips throughout Utah and Idaho. It had seen a lot of wear and tear when I bought it, and since then I have gotten a lot of use out of it. I've taken it all over Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. It has never let me down. It's not as pretty as it once was, but it tows nice and straight (even full loaded at 90 mph), and it keeps me warm and dry. It's real easy to set up and take down. The owners of the company are real straight forward honest guys. I'd recomend these trailers to anyone! If you have any questions just ask.

In a couple areas I've been to the road warriors seem to be out in force! However my experience is that the areas that seem to hold good populations of coues are not that close to the roads which usually means you don't see many other hunters in the field. Like any public land hunts anymore, get just one mile from the road and you will loose about 95% of your competition.

I've posted this picture before. In fact I use it as my avatar pic. I thought I'd post it again just to get everyone's blood pumping for the up coming NM hunts. This is from a NM unit 23 buck! I'm sure it's from the same buck, it just took me 4 1/2 years to find the other side. The good side scores roughly 54 inches. Bucks like this are the reason I hunt NM, they're tough to find, but they grow 'em BIG!!!
