Favorite Photo of 2006
TAM replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Here's one of my favorite memories from 2006. Josh Epperson and myself with my January 2006 Arizona mountain lion. -
No time to find sheds like the present. I can't say for sure, but I'll bet I've found antlers in every month of the year.
-
Hey Gino I just sent you a PM. Sorry it took me so long!
-
Great buck! Congratulations.

My buck won a biannual Pope & Young Award

To me it's a no brainer............. Thanks, but no thanks!!!! The risk out weighs the return. -
Thanks for all the great ideas! Now I can't wait to go........... only 3 1/2 months away!

Forgive me for discussing this topic here, but I figured some of you hunters may also be anglers....... I hope??? I don't know much about fishing, but every year I go on a atv trip in the whitemountains during the month of May. We usually camp along the Black River just south of where the east and west forks merge into the black. Every year I kick myself for not bringing any fishing tackle. This year I'm going to be prepared but I don't have a clue what type of rod, reel, bait, lures, hooks, etc that I should bring for that time of the year? I don't want to use a fly rod either. I'd just like to catch a fish or two? Any help out there? Thanks!

I agree, just because it's in a secluded area doesn't mean it will produce. Some tanks are just duds! I often wonder though, if things don't change from one year to the next. Perhaps because of rain fall, cattle, lions, feed, etc. Perhaps tanks that seem like duds this year will be great for next year? Don't feel bad Kevin, I've donated 3. Luckly they were cheapies that I've since replaced with nice home brew digitals. You live and you learn.

Yep, it's pretty secluded. I doubt anyone would find it if they weren't looking for it. Probably a half mile or so from the end of a real rough 4x4 trail. It's up a drainage on a desert mountian in unit 24B. It never got a lot of action, but there are a few white tail and muleys that use it along with a herd of pigs. I haven't been to it in several years now.

Here's a few more you're welcome to use if you'd like! Sorry I don't have more, but I've learned the hard way to not set up the cameras over water anymore.

First time trail-cam pic
TAM replied to GreyGhost85's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
That's pretty unusual to get a deer and a flying saucer in the same pic! -
I just got back from hunting with them January 3rd - 9th. I have nothing but good things to say about them! Send me an email and I'll give you details and pictures. Tim tmaddock@fordycefloors.com

Nice buck Josh!

Just to let everyone know............ I just got off the phone with him. Yesterday Mike AKA Treestandman went to check his trail cameras. He hiked in about a 1/4 mile to his first stop and checked the camera and also climbed up a tree about 20 feet to check on his stand. When he got up to his stand he reached for the arm rest which broke and he fell to the ground. Lucky for him he only broke his leg, incurred several spine fractures, and dislocated his arm. He was able to hike the 1/4 mile back out to his truck and drive himself to get help. He said the hike out was one of the most difficult things he's ever had to do! I don't doubt it. He's ok and will be in the hospital for awhile, his leg requires sugery but he should make a full recovery. Everyone here should be sure and tell someone exactly where you will be hunting, and wear a saftey harness if you're climbing a tree! Ps. As far as I know there were no chute planes involved in his accident

Have you thought of just flying into Tucson instead? That may be cheaper than an international flight? Either rent a car or possibly make arrangements with the outfitter to meet you there?
-
Josh, you've got my #, feel free to give it to anyone that needs a reference. I'd recomend you guys to anyone! I think chasing a lion with dogs is something that every hunter should experience at least once in a lifetime. I can't even describe the excitement! Now I'm just waiting anxiously for Greg to finish the mount.

As Amanda mentioned salt can work to bring them in, but it's probably to late to use it this year. It can take weeks and months to get deer hitting salt on a regular basis. From my experience salt gets better with time and should be established early in the year if you plan on hunting it in the fall.

Is that Mike and Roxy in the 4th picture?
-
I'm not sure what they are, but I've seen my taxidermist pull them out of the nose and sinus cavities of bucks I've shot in the past. He says he sees them all the time.
-
Bowsniper, I sent you a PM, did it work?
-
Here's a picture of a scrape in the desert from unit 31. The picture was from 2004.

Good for him! I always love it when the bunny huggers cut off there nose despite there face. Shows just how stupid they really are. I know hunters and ranchers don't always agree on everything, but I think one thing both sides do agree on is that the environmental wackos are bad for everyone!

I'll be hunting the Granados ranch. I'm getting real excited about it!
-
I'm hunting with Cola Blanca for the first time in a few weeks. My trip is scheduled from Jan 3-9th. I'd be happy to share the details with you guys when I get back.

missedagain, that makes perfect sense. It actually works to my benefit as well, being that I've never given myself the add back. Thanks.
