Way to go on a nice buck!
-
Congrats! NM is a tough place to kill a coues buck and especially with a muzzle loader. Way to go!
-
Here's a couple pic's of two of the bucks we shot last weekend in Utah. The two point is mine and the three point is my Uncle's. The best part of this trip was that my oldest son Kade got to go with me for his first time in deer camp. He hunted hard with me and endured a Saturday afternoon snow storm and some real cold temperatures. He was right by my side when I shot my buck and got to help with the cleaning and all the chores to take care of the meat. We saw a lot of deer, mostly does and even passed up a very small spike at 30 yards. Kade told me to pass on it since it was still opening morning and he wanted it to grow up to be a big buck that he can come back and shoot in a few years when he's old enough. Kade is already talking about next year!!!!!

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I've been told many times that our application money is kept in an NON interest baring account. I heard that it was state law or something like that. Anyone know if this is true?

The three little pigs???

I think the world record came from unit D. It was many years ago.

Very nice. I've heard good things about the Barnes TSX, but I've not tried them yet. I've got a few loaded and ready to go, but haven't been able to find the time to get to the range. I never had much luck getting good groups with the old Barnes bullets I tried, so I'm crossing my fingers that my rifle will like these a little better. I've got a very accurate load using Sierra Game Kings, but I'd like to find something just as accurate with a heavier constructed bullet.

What if the date is correct??? There are several states with elk hunts going on at that time???
-
Dodger2, you are right the Hornady Interbond is a bonded bullet very similar to a Nosler Accubond. Simply put that means that the lead core and the copper jacket are not going to seperate upon impact. Then the bullet will retain it's weight which means it will retain it's kenetic energy and travel deeper into the animal and do more damage. Rest assured that you are shooting a premium bullet that will more than handle the task of a cow elk. Shot placement is and always will be important, but even if you put that bullet through its shoulder you should have a very dead elk. Good luck!

I remember as a kid shooting my BB gun at an old tire on the ground in my backyard. I can still remember seeing the BB traveling through the air and hitting the exact spot on the tire that I was aiming for and then bouncing back almost the same identical path right back at me hitting me in the forehead about an inch above my eye. That scared me bad enough that I still think about ricochet's when I shoot at close targets.

How long did you let your barel cool between shots and did you clean your barel between groups? Try waiting 5-7 minutes between shots and clean the barel after each 5 shot group. Right after you clean the first two may be fliers, but the next three should be tight. I would try those Hornady light magnum rounds you spoke of, I had very good results with them. If that doesn't work I'd look into hand loading some of your own ammo. If you don't already have a trigger job (3lbs) you may want to look into that as well. I agree about the Federals being the best, but with a little effort I'll bet you can do a little better. Good luck!

Sorry Vinnie, but I picked it up from Gino last week.

Way to go, he's a beautiful bull!!!

Congratulations Mike on a nice antelope! I'm glad that both you and Dana are happy with him, he'll look real good on the wall next to your velvet non-typical coues deer.
-
Yep, I can't wait either. I just spoke with Dan earlier this week and he's going to be sending out our packets for gun permits right away. It's just around the corner but I've got three other hunts to keep me busy until then. Starting with my NM antelope hunt next weekend, general rifle Utah deer in October, Late Kaibab deer in November, followed by our trip to Mexico. It's going to be an exciting season!

Congrats Mike that's a cool looking buck!!!

Cool site Jason!!!

When are people going to learn that "Ethics" are different for each individual and asking questions like this does nothing but stir the pot and divide us. We already have rifle hunters vs. archery hunters. Pretty soon we're going to have the trail camera vs. the non trail camera.??? None of this helps our sport.

I just bought one of these scopes from Doug a few weeks ago and it ROCKS!!! Doug took real good care of me. Can't wait to tip a few critters over with it this fall.

There is a gun shop here in Prescott that had two bricks earlier today. Now they only have one They're selling the last brick for $29.99. If anyone wants it let me know and I'll point you in the right direction.

I'll be heading over to the Double V just north of Roswell for the September hunt in less than two weeks. I live in Prescott and see dozens of antelope every day which really gets me excited for my hunt. I hope there is some good quality bucks on our ranch! Good luck!

Sorry, I can't help you. But if you do find them then buy them all!!! I guess Federal has a big order to fill for some military contracts and won't be selling any more to the public any time soon! Good luck.
