I wish someone could find that old post. I couldn't believe how bad he made himself look! Best of luck to you're uncle getting things sorted out through the legal system!
-
Phil, didn't you get into a rather heated conversation with Todd right here in one of the forums a year or two ago? If I recall he posted some pics and you asked about your uncles sheep and he got all kind of bent out of shape over it. Same deal right?

Sorry I don't have one for sale but you should check out the Silk Pro 700DX. I am also 6'3" tall and this is the one I use. Very well built and sturdy. It extends taller than I am. You can usually find them brand new on ebay or Amazon for around a hundred bucks... good luck!

Tons of character on that buck... congrats! Are you going to have Dan mount it? If so I'd love to go check it out sometime.

Congrats Landon that's a fantastic buck!

Just got back from a week long December hunt in Mexico with my three boys and two buddies. My boys were hoping for the opportunity to shoot some javelina but there aren't many on the ranches we hunt and in a week of hunting we didn't see a single pig. Regardless we had a great time and got to look at some beautiful country. From what I saw the bigger bucks weren't showing any signs of rutting and didn't seem to have a care in the world. On our second night there I found a real nice buck feeding in some mesquites. We tried to make a move to get a closer look at him and perhaps even shoot him but he just seemed to disappear. As I was trying to relocate him I turned up a group of three bucks about 3/4 of a mile down the ridge and one of them looked pretty good. The next morning we went back to the same spot looking for the bucks I had seen the night before and couldn't find any of them so we hiked down the ridge about a mile so we could look into a small bowl. It's pretty open country in this area and as soon as I looked in the bowl I saw a lone buck feeding in the middle of it. His head was in a mesquite tree but I could see he had big body and when his head cleared the branches I caught a glimpse of the drop tines and knew he was a shooter. After letting my boys each take a quick peak through the 15's we bailed off the ridge to cut the distance. When we got to a knob that was about 500 yards we picked him up again moving towards a thick patch of trees where we lost sight of him. At that point we sat on him for an hour giving him time to settle down and then went back to the ranch house for some lunch and a nap. After a couple of hours we headed back out to the hill above him putting us right at 200 yards directly across from the thick patch where he went to bed. I was picking apart the small patch of trees and brush for about 20 minutes before I finally looked just outside the trees where he was bedded in the open in the shade of a tree. At that point I knew it was game on and quietly got my boys to help set up and make the shot! The buck is one of the coolest looking bucks I've ever seen in all my years of hunting coues deer and to top it off I got to share the experience with my three boys! I can't wait to get back out there in 3 weeks during the rutting action to look for another great buck!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to help my friend Tom and his son Kyle shoot his first ever big game animal. After a risky stalk and a 197 yard shot with his 270 Winchester rested on a Tri-Clawpse Kyle dropped this beautiful velvet buck with one shot. Congrats Kyle!

I have one that I'd consider selling. I'll dig it out today and make sure it's all there. PM me if you're interested? Thx Tim

Thanks everyone for your kind words! On a side note... Unfortunately when I shot this buck the angle of the bullet blew out the front of his chest and ruined the cape. However my buddies over at Badlands Custom Taxidermy hooked me up with one. The good news is that the new cape is already tanned and ready to go so I should have him back in only a month or so. I can't wait! I've got a bunch more pic's from our first trip to post. Some cool trail cam and digi scope pics. We are going back the 21st through the 29th to try and fill my second tag so I will be adding everything from both trips after that. Good luck to everyone that's going down!

$950.00 Remington 700 Custom in .280 Ackley Improved, Shilen, Timney, Ball & Carlson
TAM replied to SirShagalott's topic in Classified Ads
I will be taking this very rifle to Mexico the day after Christmas. Hopefully my boys get to put the hurt on some javelina. You never know, I might even find the right buck to drop the hammer on. Shoots real nice but I still haven't had time to really tap into its accuracy potential.- 31 replies

They do exist! I just don't know the extent of their existance or how to get them. I was scouting a ranch this past spring and low and behold the rancher had a large framed topo of the area with all his roads, pastures, and water tanks clearly marked. I took a picture of it to print and have used it to outline the boundaries on google earth. Can't even begin to say how helpful it has been to help scout and learn the ranch without even being there. In 7 years of hunting Mexico I've never seen it before.

Right on Gabe... Congrats!

I'd ask the deer but he's dead! In all seriousness, the other two smaller bucks he was with were both hard horned (3x3 & 4x3). I've been on several of the early October Jr's hunts over the last several years and have almost always seen at least one buck still in velvet so I don't think it's all that rare. I saw an even bigger buck killed in a different unit on a Jr's hunt a few years ago that was also perfect velvet and that hunt took place almost a week later than this years hunt. I was actually more surprised that there were three bucks and two does together than I was about the velvet.

So that's why you never returned my text! Can't wait to see the pic's and hear the stories

Arizona does have a law that was created in 2011 after the Tucson shootings. It was created and rushed through our state legislature and signed by Governor Brewer to make it illegal to protest these type of events within 300 feet of a funeral procession from one hour before to one hour after the funeral. The law was enacted to keep the Westboro Babtist Church from protesting the funerals of those killed in the Tucson shootings. If I remember violation of the law is a class one misdemeanor. Chef is 100% correct. This group is looking for attention and travels with video cameras and lawyers in hopes of filing lawsuits against those that retaliate against them. The city of Prescott has put out notices out to business owners, hotels, restaurants, etc. to refuse providing goods or services to this group and is encouraging peaceful ways to show that they are not welcome! I have also heard rumors that they are already here in town but I don't know for sure. Lots of rumors are circulating right now.

Been watching this thing grow all day. Lots of houses right in it's way. I took this picture of Granite Mountain from my driveway in Prescott a few minutes ago using my Outdoorsmans digi scope adapter. The entire ridgeline to the north of the mountain is just glowing, it's pretty eerie looking!

Several months ago Amanda sent me a DLC Covert II trail camera with a security box for testing and a performance review. After putting it to the test I'd like to report my findings. I have used no less than 10 different trail camers over the years and this camera is by far the smallest one. It measures about 3.5 inches by 5.5 inches. It runs on 4-8 AA batteries, has IR-LED for night time use, no flash to spook game, 3 MP or 5 MP image capture, Video capture, and it runs on SD cards. I was also provided with a metal security box to keep it safe while in use. The security box is professionally made to fit the camera and screws and locks to a tree using a python type lock. The DLC Covert II sets up a little differently than I have been used to with an external remote control keyboard that plugs into the camera. The remote walks the user through the set up process which, after reading the instruction manual is simple and easy to do. After customzing your user settings you hang the camera on the tree and flip the switch to "On" and you're good to go. I set the camera out for two months so I could get a good "real life" test on battery life. Upon returning I found that the batteries lasted 37 days and took 1,380 pictures. Approximatley two thirds of the pictures were taken at night with the LED's drawing more power. That's a lot of night time pic's on 8 Duracel AA batteries! I could only guess that the camera would last closer to 60 days and 2,000 pic's if so many of them weren't at night. I honestly haven't spent much time using the Video setting. Partly because I haven't had the opportunity and partly because I prefer the picture settings. For my next set I will probably give it a try. Overall this camera is different than anything I've ever used before, and I mean that in a good way! It's smaller which will hide it from dirty thieves better. It's got a reasonably fast trigger at under 1.2 seconds. The 24 LED's really give it good night time range. It also has sensitivity adjustments, time and date stamping, and excellent battery life. It seems to be constructed well and comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty. The only possible negative I can come up with is that while the security box is good and solid it kind of gives the user a false sense of security. I know for a fact that a cheap pair of bolt cutters will cut right through the python lock that holds the box/camera to the tree. The bottom line is that if a dirty theif wants your camera, security box or not, they're going to get it. ALWAYS HIDE YOUR CAMERAS! The only suggestion that I would make to the DLC Covert guys is making a way to enter in a unique securtiy code into each camera so that if a sucky thief does end up with your camera at least you will sleep better knowing they can't use it without knowing the security code. These really are great cameras! If anyone has any questions please feel free to post them up or PM me. Thanks Amanda! Here's a few pic's. I never did get any monster deer or elk, but these should give you an idea what the picture quality is like. That deer in the first picutre is probably 25-30 yards from the camera, I was impressed with it's range!
