If I go out hunting and come across two bucks standing side by side and one is a 6 year old 110" class buck and the other is a 2 year old 50" class buck and I shoot the bigger buck, the only thing we know for sure is that I killed the older buck. The younger buck could have had better genetics that would have allowed him to grow to 120" class buck for all we know. Perhaps I just let the future world record walk? Also at a certain point animals will live beyond there effictive breeding age. They will still have impressive head gear, but for the most part the younger more physically fit animals will be engaging in the majority of the breeding. That is exactly the type of animals many trophy hunters are after.

Not trying to split hairs, just clarify based on my understanding. After you shoot a bad guy and he's lying on the ground alive, bleeding, and disarmed, you do not have the right to go put a bullet in his head and finish him off. That would be murder! If you shoot a bad guy and he's still coming at you, or even lying on the ground bleeding and aiming his gun at you then keep shooting until the threat has been stopped, that is ok. Josh, I think your point was to shoot to kill, not shoot to wound? My instructor explained it something like this. When shooting a bad guy we don't have the right to kill him we simply have the right to stop him. If in the process of stopping him we kill him that's ok. Chef, they never used the Flagstaff example in my class. Do you remember the name of the case? Also post up or PM me the name of that attorney if you've still got it. Catclaw, thanks I always wondered what the difference was between all the different kinds of homicide.

After many years of putting it off, my wife and I finally got around to taking our concealed carry class here in Prescott this past Saturday. What an eye opener!!! I've been around guns all my life and probably learned more in 8 hours than the previous 35 years put together. Prior to taking this class I thought I knew enough about gun laws to get by. I was wrong! I thought I knew what my rights were. I was wrong! I thought I knew what gun saftey was. I was wrong! Much of what I believed before taking this class was inaccurate. Some of my beliefs would have landed me in jail if I ever had to act on them. I believe that anyone that has the time and means to take this class will benefit from it big time. Even if you don't ever plan to carry a gun concealed it's still good to know your rights. I think it will also help a person to become a more responsible gun owner and supporter of our second ammendment rights. Here are some interesting facts: The average shooting takes place at a distance of only 6 feet. The average length of time for shootings is 2.5 seconds. The average number of shots fired in a shooting is 3. The average number of bad guys involved in a shooting is 2. 80% of shootings occur at night.

Mike and Gino just burn a Saturday and take the class you won't regret it. You'll just have to keep open carrying that wheel gun. I can't imaging trying to comfortably conceal one of those! Catclaw, thanks for your .02! Ernesto, I could read your post a hundred times and it still won't change the fact that several of your comments are misguided. I'm no expert, but after taking the class I feel like I'm much more informed and that is all I was ever trying to get across by posting this topic. Using a gun for personal defense is a huge responsibility and liability. I can't imagine why anyone would be opposed to taking a voluntary training class to better educate themselves? As for being judged by 12 versus carried by 6, I totally agree. However a lot of what is taught in the class could help you to avoid ever going to a jury trial, thus saving you tens of thousands in legal fees.
-
And that's your first mistake Ernesto! One of the major gun saftey rules is to be sure of your target and beyond! How can you be sure of your target if it's behind a wall? That's a bad decision that could potentially hurt or endanger other people and also put you in a lot of legal trouble. Again... my point is that this class will help educate gun owners and help them become more aware of proper gun saftey and there rights in a self defense situation. Ernesto If you don't think this conversation is involves politics then feel free to excuse yourself anytime you'd like. You are the perfect example of a mis-informed person that should go and take the class. It could save you a pretty good chunk of change on legal fees and even jail time.
-
There are a thousand different "what if" senarios that could be discussed all day, but the point is that by taking the class you will be a much more educated and responsible gun owner.
-
Ernesto, that's exactly how I felt before the class. You are 100% responsible for your bullet once you pull the trigger. A 9mm bullet will penetrate 6 sheets of 1/2 inch dry wall. It is your responsibility to make sure your bullet doesn't shoot through a wall and kill your sleeping child, or your neighbor, or a jogger, or a kid at the park. I learned that there is a LOT more that goes into responsible gun ownership then I ever knew before.

One thing I learned the hard way is that the combination dials take much longer to open and are more difficult to see the numbers in the dark. If you plan on keeping any of your home defense guns in your safe then forget the combo dials and go with an electronic style keypad. You can program those combos to what ever you want and they are much easier and quicker to get into in the event you need some fire power! Check on ebay. Believe it or not there are some good deals there even after paying for shipping.

Wow! Talk about some circumference measurements. Congrats.

I'm sure that all you gun owners will sleep much better tonight knowing that you can "take him at his word". I'm also pretty certain that BO's interpertation of "common-sense" will not be quite the same as mine. Those two words are where he is pulling the wool over Americas eyes. I'm quite sure his version of "common-sense" is a far cry from my version. Obama: Don't stock up on guns December 8, 2008 BY ABDON M. PALLASCH Political Reporter As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month. "I believe in common-sense gun safety laws, and I believe in the second amendment," Obama said at a news conference. "Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. I said that throughout the campaign. I haven't indicated anything different during the transition. I think people can take me at my word." But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words — but his legislative track record — that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores. "Prior to his campaign for president, his record as a state legislator and as a U.S. Senator shows he voted for the most stringent forms of gun control, the most Draconian legislation, gun bans, ammunition bans and even an increase in federal excise taxes up to 500 percent for every gun and firearm sold," Arulanandam said. Obama answered "yes" in 1996 to a questionnaire from an Illinois group on whether he supported a handgun ban. But he later said a staffer filled out that answer and he did not support a ban. Nationally, background checks for gun purchases jumped nearly 49 percent during the week Obama was elected, compared with the same time period last year, according to the FBI's National Instant Background Check System. Anecdotally, gun dealers around the country have reported spikes in sales. The Illinois State Rifle Association Reports gun sales for November were 38 percent higher than last year. "We don't dispute [the gun sales hike] because the numbers from the federal system certainly confirm that there is increased activity out there. We just think it's a bit stupid," said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign against Gun Violence. "Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

Sorry to hear about Mike Isin't he the one that got ahold of a lion once and killed it? That makes two of the four that treed my cat gone now. How long do lion hounds usually live anyway?
-
Congrats on a great buck!!!
-
Yep, he did the same thing with my lion. He was up in the tree just as far as he could climb. Thanks for sharing and bringing back some good memories!
-
I'm expecting nothing less than a typical Booner from Tommy and a double dropper from Jason! Don't let me down guys
-
Good deal!

I think Hap and Rusty were the first to tree my lion followed by Mike and Roxy. If I'm not mistaken Ruby was a young dog back then and stayed in the dog box that day. Rusty has since passed on and is chasing lions in doggie heaven. Randy sure has a great pack of dogs!!!
