I've been trying to include more mountain hikes at higher elevations in my training regiment. Yesterday I did the Kendrick Peak hike with my 10 year old son. It's just over 9 miles round trip and goes from roughly 7,700 feet at the trail head to over 10,400 feet at the summit. I've found that in addition to breaking in all my gear it really helps to strengthen my knees and ankles as well as get my lungs acclimated to the thinner air.

Darn Tough Socks Gear Review
TAM replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
I agree 100% Darr! I came across these socks a few years ago at a little store called The Hike Shack in Prescott and love them. Best sock I've ever worn. -
Thanks guys! Had a great day with family and friends.

Could you or anybody recommend a broker that manage that type of service??? Just book a hunt with a US outfitter that offers hunts in Mexico. There are several very good outfitters that sponsor this site.
-
Clint, I got my scope in the mail today and everything looks great Thank you!
-
If you have another available in MOA I will take it please. I live in Prescott Valley so I will need it shipped and I can pay with a card right away. Thanks, Tim 928-533-8807

All the above is true, but don't forget the US Customs part either. You can just as easily get your hides & horns confiscated or possibly truck, guns, atv, binos, etc., huge Lacey Act fines, or even thrown in jail if you don't know what you're doing. But at least it would be an Americian jail

There really isn't anything "basic" about hunting Mexico. There is a fair amount of paperwork required on both sides of the border and if you don't get it right you risk going to jail. I wouldn't recommend doing it for the first time without having someone with you that has prior experience and is willing to walk you through the process. Beware... once you've got the process all figured out you may find it addicting!

Nothing brown on my nose, just expressing my opinion of a guy I've met twice! I owe Alan nothing and he owes me nothing! I've been a member here since the beginning and get tired of guys like you dragging the site and and everyone that comments through the mud. I did nothing more than make a positive comment about a guy that hasn't even participated in this topic and you want to trash me for it... you know nothing about me!

I've met Alan twice. Both times happened to be down in Mexico while coues hunting. He has to be one of the nicest down to earth guys I've ever met!

A taxidermist buddy of mine just called me yesterday asking if I new knew anyone that needed one. Said it's a big cape from an october buck. Catch is you'd have to use him to mount it but the cape is already tanned and he could have the mount done in 2 months. He's a reputable taxidermist that does great work. PM me if you want his info.

You're supposed to cut the antler off the live buck so you can keep the fully intact rack off the dead buck! Cool video... Thx!

Here's an assortment of buck pic's from my Browning BTC-1 and BTC-2 cams. All pic's from this past season. We killed two of these bucks based on the trail camera photos.
-
I've had 3 of the BTC-1's for about a year or so with no problems at all. I bought several of the BTC-2's in December that I used for a month down in Mexico and they turned out to be the best cameras we used this year. Browning has recently released the BTC-5 which is 10 megapixels, 100 foot flash, all in a smaller body but they cost about $130. I have 2 and they're great cameras but just more than I like to pay. I think a lot of places are clearing out the old models for the newer one and that's why you can get the BTC-2's for so cheap! You wont be disappointed!
-
Hands down the best camera I've found for the money is a Browning Recon Force BTC-2. They're $59.99 on ebay. Less than 1 second trigger, 65 foot flash, great battery life, small, and lots of other whistles and bells. I own 11 of them and plan to buy more! I own 42 trail cameras, including nearly all the above mentioned brands, and I don't think you can get any more bang for your buck than this camera!

I just got back from my second week long trip to Mexico this season late last night. What an experience! I can't believe just a few short weeks ago I was able to harvest a beautiful double droptine buck while hunting with my three boys (see my other post in the Mexico forum titled: "Double droptine buck" for the story and pic's). That hunt took place between Christmas and New Years and while we saw plenty of deer there was no rut action and the weather was a little cooler which made sitting water pretty slow. We had traveled down to the ranch over the Thanksgiving weekend and set up 18 trail cameras over various water holes across most of the ranch. During our hunt at the end of December we had a ton of pictures but they were mostly does and small bucks. We did have one buck that seemed to come in on a regular basis that we guessed at around 100 inches but that was it for big bucks. I have to admit I was a little worried, but what a difference three weeks makes! Around January 16-18 it was like someone flipped a switch and we started getting pictures of good bucks across the ranch. We Identified several shooters and after several days of patience one of my buddies put an arrow in his first ever coues buck which turned out to be a total stud with 19 inch main beams and 6 inch eyegaurds! Several days later I got lucky and another one of our target bucks came in to a tank I was sitting and I put a 140 grain Berger through his chest at only 30 yards with my 280 AI. I should have brought my bow! As a consolation prize I was also able to take a cool buck that was rutting a doe one evening right before dark. As usual Mexico didn't let me down and once again I had a wonderful experience! The good people, the fantastic food, and the beautiful setting have me hooked for life. I haven't even been home for 24 hours and I already find myself planning next years trip in my mind. I am truly blessed to have the means (and a patient wife) that allow me to fulfill my dream hunt each year over the past eight years. My double dropper from December... Trail cam pic of my buck a week before I killed him... Trail cam pic of my buck a week before I killed him... Set up in blind with dead buck on the far bank... Trail cam pic of dead buck... As he lay... Trail cam pic of me admiring my buck... The largest coues buck I've ever taken... Both my bucks from this trip... All three bucks killed this trip...

After the 60 day drying period I just had my buck officially scored for B&C and the net score came back at 110 1/8 inches. Looks like I finally put one in the book!

Just two months ago I had the good fortune of going to Mexico with my three boys and killing one of the coolest bucks I've ever seen. Unfortunately I ruined the cape in the process. When I got home I called my buddies TC Fish and his brother Dustin Fish at Badlands Custom Taxidermy and not only did they have a cape but it was all tanned and ready to go! They worked me into the schedule and here it is nearly two months to the day later and my double droptine buck is on the wall! Thanks guys I couldn't be happier! that's a toad.....but what did your other 2 deer score you have shot the same # of deer in 2 months than I have in 5 years. The other two were 115 4/8 and 102 broke (probably 104ish unbroke). My buddy killed a 116 7/8 with his bow, and my other buddy killed his first coues buck with a bow. Had a pretty good year
-
Thanks for the comments. For those that asked... I ruined the original cape by shooting him forward through the shoulder and the bullet blew out the front of his chest. I've got him taped at 111 4/8 inches. He's basicly a 105" frame with 3" drops on each side. Tim

I like the shemagh. I've been using one for a couple years now and they really come in pretty handy. Scarf or face wrap to keep warm. I will also drape mine over my head while glassing to block out the sun. I even used mine this past fall as sort of a sling over my shoulder to carry a deer head and cape off the mountain. They're sure nice to have!

Interested in buying trail cameras. Brand doesn't matter as long as the price is reasonable but they must be: LED flash, AA batteries, SD card, and in good working order. I live in Prescott but can arrange for pick up or pay for shipping. Thanks, Tim

I have no interest in someone's stolen property!

Thanks for the replies and good advise! I currently own 20+ trail cameras (including some coverts) and I'm looking to buy another 20+ cameras before now and Thanksgiving and I was hoping to save some money by purchasing used versus new. Thanks! Tim

Mike, your pics don't do that buck justice! Way more impressive in real life! I love the round horn mass. Got to check out the other bucks you guys have killed and it looks like you've been cleaning house... congrats on all the success!
