Thanks guys. Well I tried quite a few different ways to mount the camera. The first 2 days I had the camera mounted to a tripod strapped down to my backpack but this didn't work at all. This way was plan stupid I missed some good footage trying to do it like this and I was constantly hitting branches with my camera. The next day I had the camera on the tripod and just carried it with my free hand. This worked better but my camera(XL1S) and tripod(big ol' Bogen) weighed close to 18 pounds trying to carry like this with my bow just flat wore me out. I finally ended up just using the camera strap and hung the camera around my neck. This way I was finally able to get some footage of the elk I was seeing and I was way more mobile. As far as getting the kill on video it was pure LUCK! When I drew my bow back to shoot the camera happened to be point in the right direction. It all happened so fast and I was so excited that I didn't even realize I got the kill on video until I got back to the truck and watched the tape.

The music might be a little loud for some. Just a clip I put together of some of the mule deer footage I've got over the years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv4PBBRkT9w

My wife applied for her hunting/fishing license with her elk tag application this year and we have yet to receive it in the mail. So I called the GnF and ask when should we expect it to be mailed out and I was told by the 24th of April. To me this seems like a long time for them to issue and mail out a license. We were planning a fishing trip this weekend so I then asked what if she wanted to go out fishing between now and the time she gets her license and the person at the GnF looked it up on her computer and sure enough my wife was issued a license but it just hasn't been mailed yet. I was then told that we should go get a duplicate license if my wife wanted to go fishing this weekend. I was quite shocked by this answer I thought for sure that the GnF would have been able to email us a temp license or something similar to print out showing that she has been issued a license but no that wasn't the case. I never thought that we'd be told to go out and pay for a duplicate if she wants to go out fishing because they haven't mailed out the license yet. Was the person at the GnF correct in telling me this? To me it just seems like A) there should be some way that the GnF could grant someone the right to hunt or fish while waiting for your license to be mailed out and Why in the heck does it take sooo long to mail out a license in the first place.

What if having big antlers actually help the lion hold down the deer a little easier during an attack. A lion could wrap/hook its front leg around one side of the rack and turn the bucks head and position it so the lion can get a good chomp down on the throat. Don't know if this is true or not just a thought. Great pic thanks for sharing.

What's your thoughts on this?

I sure wish my wife was the one who stole your tag but we both got skunked in the draw this year. -

I'll call back and see if there's any other options as far as getting the license #. We'll probably have to end up getting a duplicate. Its not the money that bothers me its the principle of it. I still feel there should be a grace period or something for the people getting there licenses through the mail especially if it takes them so long to mail them out to you. They cashed our check about a month ago and we have yet to get the license. Imagine if you paid for internet service and it took over a month for you to get it. Call me old fashion but I find this kind of service unacceptable. I see no reason why it should take this long but if there is a good reason then there should definitely be some sort of temp license one could get. O well I we'll be getting our licenses at the store from now on. Too bad because I really liked the printed out licenses from the GnF. -
Looks like Mt. Trumbull country to me.

2009 Elk and Antelope Application numbers
Huntaholic replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I'll be definitely be getting an archery bull tag this year..... as long as all of the 3068 normally would have put in for 6aw archery bull that is. -
Nice pics everyone I can't wait until my kids are old enough to start hunting. Hey COUESAZ the area in your post 84 pics is one of my favorite all time glassing spots and here I thought I was the only one that knew about that spot. Here's one of my 3 year olds first fish.

Sad deal for sure. The article said the cat was around 15 to 16 years old. The average life span for a jaguar in the wild is between 12-16 years so at least the cat had a long life and chances are at his age he wouldn't have made it much longer even if he wasn't trapped and collared. Sad deal yes but not as big a deal as some are making it out to be. There's plenty of Jags down in Mexico and I'm pretty sure this won't be the last Jaguar found in the US.

WOW thats one big framed buck! I don't know about score on a buck like that. I think he'll score less than he looks though do to his small front forks atleast on his left. I can't image him going less than 180. Giant buck for sure. Thanks for post do you have any other pics of him preferably from the side?

Finally broke triple digits.

I motion for a re-score. There's no way that buck is below 105. That is one beauty of a buck! Congrats to you and your friend. -
I lost my Nikon 50mm spotting scope in unit 31 the week after Christmas if anyone has found or knows someone that has found one in unit 31 please let me know. Thanks,

I was way off with my guess of 121. Good thing you didn't post that pic with him behind the rock the first time or I would have guessed 125. That pic makes him look huge! Awesome buck thanks for sharing!

I don't know how accurate the deer density is but I know the distribution is off. There's a couple spots were I see a good number of coues that aren't even labeled on that map. I hope all their data their using isn't 18 years old. Hey firstcoueswas80 thanks for the heads up on 36b. I never knew there was that many deer there. 25 deer a day a bad day... Wow looks like I found a new unit to hunt.

Wow! very nice congrats. I'm going to take a guess and say he's going to score 121 3/8 gross. Thanks for sharing.

Will this 2x ever be a 3x?
Huntaholic posted a topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
First off I've wanted to say I've never seen a deer get up on his hind legs to eat before like this one did. Second do you ever think this buck will be anything bigger than a 2x2. He doesn't look like a young deer to me and I see no signs of any other points trying to grow. Well just wanted to share one of my favorite video clips and I wanted to see what others thought about this 2x2 ever becoming a 3x. http://vimeo.com/2308515 -

Huntaholic replied to Huntaholic's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Thanks for the compliments and opinions. Good point that he might have been a 3x at one time and now he's a 2x I never thought of that. It was a great year for moisture and feed so I'm pretty sure that wasn't a factor but you never know. I used a Canon XL1S to get most of my footage. Good camera but to big and heavy so I got rid of it. As far as the other video with the snake and the rabbit I too still wonder if he got it down if he did he would have been set for his winter hibernation that year. Thanks again everyone. -

Thats a nice buck congrats to your daughter. You said this is her best deer to date. Just wondering how many she's tagged so far? -
I'd definitely say so! Great buck!

Great pics guys!! I love this! Here's a few more video pics I was able to dig up. This pic is a little harder but shouldn't be too challenging. This one might be a little harder for some OK probably not. Zoomed in closer. Zoomed way in. Here's another harder one. Hint its a spike. Be sure to search the whole pic on this one.

Video Of 2007 Hunt
Huntaholic replied to Huntaholic's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Thanks guys. Hey Elkaddict thats quite a compliment thanks. -
This is for everyone stuck at home and not hunting this weekend. Its a video of my younger brother 07 youth hunt in 33. It all starts out with us finding 2 bucks a 2x2 and a good 3x3 at around 800 yards away. My brother has never shot at a deer before and he really liked the 3x3 so we dropped down into a steep canyon and worked our way towards the bucks. At first I didn't think it would take us more than 30 minutes to get set up on the buck but boy was I wrong. Besides running into a big ol rattler eating a rabbit the canyon was super thick and steep making it extremely difficult to be quite so we didn't spoke the bucks. Well about an hour later we finally made it to were the bucks were and by now the temp was already pushing 90 so the bucks more than likely bedded. Sure enough after 15 minutes of glassing I pick out just the antlers of the 3x3. The smaller 2x2 was also found about 15 yards from the 3x3 right in the middle of 3 mesquite trees. Well we waited for another 15 minutes going over what we should do and because we were stuck out in the open with no shade it was very hot and not getting any cooler. My ol man and brother didn't want to wait in the sun anymore for the buck to finally stand up which could take hours. So we decided that I would go over and try to get him up with out spoking him too bad. Before I left I told my brother to wait for the buck to stop before shooting at him well in all the excitement he ended up shooting at the buck while it was walking and missed him. After the first shot the buck took 5 steps and stop perfectly broadside. My brother slowly pulls the trigger and click. Nothing! The gun didn't chamber another round after his first shot! By the time he gets another round loaded they lost track of the bucks as they worked their way down the hill. Talk about frustrating. I'm pretty sure if the gun would have loaded another round my brother would have got the buck on his second shot. After searching the hillside for any signs of a hit we spent rest of the day looking for this buck but unfortunately we never found him again. The next day was the last day my brother could hunt so he just wanted to get his first deer. After passing on a very small spike and I mean very small I don't even think we could get the tag on his antlers. We glassed up 2 bucks working a fairly open hillside at about 1000 yards away. Both bucks were 2x2 which was fine for my brother. It took us about an hour to get to where we last saw the bucks. It took awhile but we finally found the 2 bucks bedded. The only problem was that we didn't have a clear shot so we slowly worked our way up the open hillside to get a better vantage point. We now had a good 100-150 yard shot at the bucks. This time my brother didn't miss. It was an awesome hunt being able to go with my dad and brother. I was very happy to be there and help him get his first buck. Next time the big deer is going down!
