Not a joke just getting back to my roots....

I just got done hunting there over Thanksgiving weekend and saw 5 on Friday, 3 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday.

My wife had the same hunt as you with similar results. Tough hunt to say the least no wonder there are leftover tags every year for this unit. Beautiful country though.

A lot of people have already said this but that's one heck of a bull no matter what the score. Great job guys! I know I'm super jealous when I see pics like this. I wish I was good enough to kill huge trophy animals like this. Hey Biscuits you sound like a stand up guy. Some people don't like that trait in a person but I think its a good quality to have. I like a person who knows how to tell it like it is without blowing any smoke or filling you up with a bunch of BS. So far from what you have posted your not afraid to speak the truth or hide anything you just lay it all on the table. Kudos to you your a dieing breed. So like the person before me asked and the question probably everyone else reading this thread wants to know....... What's your real name?

About 7 years ago I went out scouting/shed hunting one spring day in unit 28. All I had with me was a pair of 10s, a tripod and some water. As I was working my way up through a grassy saddle I noticed what looked like a dead animal of some sort at about 30 yards from me. I was super pumped because I thought maybe it could be a big ol dead buck. As I worked my way over to within 10 yards from what I thought was a deer my excitement turned to extreme fear as it turned out to be a mountain lion! A live mountain lion! I immediately froze and thought "great I'm pretty much screwed and I was going to be lion lunch." The lion was crouched down facing me with his ears down and back all within 10 yards of me! I was so close I could see him breathing! I've never been so scared. We had a staring contest for about 1 minute when I decided to slowly back up the whole time waiting for the lion to pounce. Step by step I got further away and the lion didn't move. When I reached about 40 yards away the lion finally turned a ran away. Talk about freaky. Well I kept working my way up the hill in the opposite direction the lion went. 5 mins pass when I heard what sounded like 2 lions fighting in the direction I was headed. That was all I could take and after that I got my unarmed butt back to the truck. Not weird but definitely freaky.

O my! I'd shot him just for looks. That thing is bad! Before I give a guess on score I have a question. Would his width be measured from tip to tip of his G3s? or is it the widest point of the main beam?

It was archery season for bear when I videoed these 2 but I was hunting deer so I didn't go after him. I'm not a bear expert but I've seen them down in the cactus mostly in Aug and Sept.

Is this the same buck from the he's growing good post you made a while back? You weren't kidding with the title. HOLY MASS!!!!!

A friend of mine brought this to my attention and I want to see what you think. Could the buck that walks to the left and beds seen in this video here http://www.vimeo.com/2237577 be the same 3x4 in the videos I posted earlier? I just think they look to different and I can't imagine the 3x4 loosing that much horn. What do you think?

Its that time of year again when I start to get the bug. There's something about antlers growing that really makes me want to get out and do some scouting. Unfortunately I can't get out like I use to so to help past the time I'm going to post some video clips. I can't remember what I've posted before so hopefully there won't be any reposts. This one is a buck I found back in 06 during the aug bow hunt. He's probably one of the widest bucks I've been lucky enough to get on video. I put a stalk on the buck with no luck. This was the first and last time I ever saw this buck. The video quality isn't that good and its hard to see his rack but if you look close you should be able to see it every now and then. Thats not the new world record its the new worlrd record. It doesn't look big enough in my eyes to come even close unless its an archery buck.

Here's some more footage to help pass the time. It sure would have been nice to get this buck. We found him from a mile or so away. Got within rifle range and had the cameras rolling only to have him slip away. At least we got some good footage out of it. Any guesses on what this buck might have scored? I closed it for now. Just wanted to share it one last time for a couple of days to help pass the time as we wait for the draw results.

This will be the last clip I'm going to post until I decide if I'm going to do another DVD or not. Well this hunt turned out quite well and I learned a lot from my buddy Dave and his friend Bobby. These 2 guys are some hunting kings. I didn't meet up with Dave until the 11th day of his hunt because I was helping my cuz on his bull hunt in unit 9. I showed up at the right time because the bulls just started talking the morning I arrived. When I finally showed up I ended up missing the morning hunt because I'm a wus and needed some sleep. I meet up with Dave at camp for lunch. As we sat at camp talking about his hunt we kept hearing bugles above us at camp. So we decided to see if we could get on one of these bulls. This is were the video starts out. As you'll see on the vid we got on a couple of small bulls but couldn't close the distance on the bigger bull. After our noon hunt we drove to a spot to listen for some bulls and it didn't take Dave long to find a nice bull but unfortunately it was already dead. The video picks back up the next morning where we find ourself right in the middle of some good rutting action. We closed the distance on one of the bigger bulls only to watch him circle around us at about 100 yards. As we were watching this bull disappear in the trees our hopes of getting a shot at him were also disappearing with every step he took. When out of nowhere we hear the loud crash of antlers. The rest of the video is pretty much self explanatory from there on. Once again its well worth it to watch it in High Quality and be sure to turn the volume up on this one. Well Gary I can't let Derek take all the heat on this one. He was waiting for me to get the cameras ready so it was probably more my fault than his. The "CAMERA CURSE" bit me in the butt once again on this one.

Got the draw ain't out yet blues? Here's a video that might help a bit. A couple of friends and I had the good fortune of seeing this buck 3 years in a row. I 1st saw him in 03 and was able to get some spotting scope footage of him in velvet. Then later that year we saw him during a Dec rifle hunt where we passed on him. The next year I saw him for about 1 min and got about 2 or 3 secs of video of him. His frame looked about the same as it was in 03 just a bit bigger. 05 is when he really got bigger. It was a great horn grow year in this area and he was looking very good. Unfortunately we haven't seen him since 05 so no telling if he's still around. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NQ8EXzvUF0

Yea I definitely need to work on not talking as much in the field. The year we passed him up we thought he'd score around 95. I try to find and post the video of him when we passed him up. 2 hours after passing on him my buddy shot a real nice 103-105 buck.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Gary as long as someone had a good tag and I had the time I'd do it for free. I don't video hunts anymore because I sold all my good camera equipment and won't be getting back into it for awhile at least until all my kids are in school. All I know is that videoing hunts was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. And just so you know I video the ground and have out of focus video as much as the next guy I just edit that part out. Thanks again for the comments everyone.
