Interesting question. Perhaps there is a correlation that would yield predictable results. Amanda, have there been studies on this? If Amanda hasn't seen any, SilentButDeadly might have. He's a scientist by training too. Amanda and/or SBD, what say ye? (I smell a Ph.D. or perhaps a post-doctoral study in someone's future.)

Wow! Sure looks that way to me too. Let us know what G&F says. Thanks for posting.

quick picture

+ 1 Plus, it looks like it's got a nice spread too! If that spike's right antler is broken from sparing, I have to say that I like his attitude. -
The serial number has a date code that will let you know when the binos were made. I've seen a "de-coder" table on the Internet and did a quick search for it but couldn't find it. I think it was on a birder forum. Not sure though. Hope this gives you a place to start looking. (Of course, the manufacture date won't give you the date of sale but you can be confident that they sold some time after they were made. I know, I have incredible grasp on the obvious. )

A good friend has a cabin up north near where we found this non-typical elk rack during a hunt several years ago. He stained the antlers (they were starting to get white where the sun hit them), and painted the skull and mounted it on a piece of weathered barn wood. I thought it came out great. It now graces his garage as a fitting reminder of a great time in the woods. Here are some pics:

+1, yeah do know what he used. I have my own concoction but was wondering, it's great stain job, does rack justice. Dustin, please forgive the delay in answering your question. He used Watco Danish Oil finish in Medium Walnut. He applied it liberally at the bases and more sparingly towards the tips. -Jimmer

Great job guiding and introducing the bro-in-law to Western hunting! -
Wow! Great job. I love the pictures and story. Next best thing to being there! Thanks for posting.

Well done!

Jason, please keep us updated. I feel really bad for that dog. It's like stories you hear about little kids who get lost in the woods and then hide from rescuers either because they're terrified or don't want to go with "strangers."

Very impressive! (both to you and G.H.) I just learned a lot about the outdoors. Look where they're lookin'.

The bright side is that you have an AWESOME wife.

White deer of Wisconsin
Jimmer Negamanee replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
That's awesome! It raises some interesting evolutionary questions. One one hand you have questions of natural selection like does being white confer an advantage over being brown when it comes to evading predators in winter and if so, does that overcome the potential disadvantages of being white when it comes to evading predators the other 9+ months of the year? (I would think not or else the majority of whitetails in northern latitudes would already be white, but, I'm no scientist.) Then on the other hand unnatural, human selection appears to be occuring by providing food for poulations of white deer and making illegal to kill them. Interesting, indeed. Irrespective of that, they are very cool looking. -
Gotta love the Aussies! Thanks for posting the link.

Congratulations! What unit? Seriously though, post the picture of the little bugger when he/she gets here so we can guess the score! (I'll go with 7lbs, 2 oz, 19 1/2 inches long.) And remember, never too early to start collecting bonus points! Congrats again to you and your family.

Waugh's did a great job on my deer this year. It was the first time I used them but was impressed. The hot breakfast sausage was great! My wife is a bit of an epicure and was not not raised on game meat but she loved it. I hope I'm lucky enough to draw a tag and fill it next year so I can use them again.

Could you post a pic and give some more info? (how old, original order, how many rounds through it, etc.)

Sweet! That's a mess o' antlers. Thanks for posting.

Please tell me that the video will be posted here! I can envision the first of many installments of predator hunting how-to videos. Come on! Don't make us beg!

Washington wants to expand wild horse and burro
Jimmer Negamanee replied to DesertBull's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Amen, DB! This should be an easy issue for environmentalist and cattle growers to unite around. First these equines are exotic feral animals not “wild.” Exotic species can be major vehicles for extinction of native animals. Sure, cows are exotic too but not nearly as ecologically destructive as equines IMO, all other things being equal. Plus, cattle have ranchers who are motivated to round them ALL up when it’s time to move them or sell them. Burros are aggressive and have commandeered desert waterholes and chased desert bighorn away when they try to drink. Equines don’t have four-chambered stomachs like our native grazers (and cows) and make up for their lack of digestive efficiency by eating A LOT. Also, unlike our native grazers and browsers (and cows) they have top and bottom teeth in front (instead of just bottom teeth) so they really get after anything they do eat. The list goes on. The problem is that they’re cute. And cute often trumps science, especially when elementary school kids start writing letters to congress. Feral horses have been abused and treated inhumanely in the past but you don’t apologize for that mistake be making another. I don’t usually spout off like this but the idea of legal protection for feral horses and burros that do all kinds of ecological damage really gets to me. Hopefully, environmentalists and cattle growers can unite against this common enemy so they can go back to fighting with eachother, the way the Good Lord intended. -
Wow! Awesome set. It sounds like you found them earlier but left them to get them later. If that's so, it seems like it would be hard to leave a sweet set like that out there. Thanks for posting.

Global Warming
Jimmer Negamanee replied to az4life's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Although I may be charged with having a permanent Kool-Aid mustache when it comes to this topic (plus the fact that I think there are lots of reasons, apart from global warming, to pursue non-fossil fuel energy sources), I heard an interesting commentary on the BBC about the climate change debate from a "skeptic's" perspective. It made some good points and gave me a lot to think about. Let’s see if the link works: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p0058......_12_12_2009/ -
