Keep at it. Don't get discouraged. It's a matter of miles walked. I think it was SilentButDeadly who posted on here a ratio of miles walked to cool stuff found. If I find it I'll post a link to that thread. (If someone else finds it first, please post away.) Getting away deep into good country certainly helps but my son found a 4 pt. Mule Deer shed that was at least two years old and almost completely covered with pine needles on the fence line of a state highway. (It is still the family’s only mulie shed.) Remember that all those whites or chalkies that people find were once browns that no one found. Also, bring binoculars. It will save you A LOT of walking. If you see something that appears to possibly be an antler (or part of an antler) it is incumbent upon you to check it out. Think of it as a moral imperative. You can either walk over to it and physically inspect it or check it out with the binos. Either way, if you see something that you think MIGHT be an antler, the point is to confirm that it is NOT an antler before moving on. The minute you listen to that Eeyore voice in your head that says “Oh, it’s probably just a branch.” and keep walking is the minute you lose. The point is to check it all out. It’s not a perfect system because you’ll still walk past a lot of sheds that you were sure weren’t antlers but at least you won’t be able to blame yourself for that. I also pick up a little litter (usually empty cans or bottles, nothing too nasty) to help my karma but that’s just me. I have no empirical evidence that it works. If fact, it might not. I keep threatening Coues’n’Sheep that I’ll pic message him an elk shed but haven’t found one yet this year. I’ll be out again on Monday though. I expect to find sheds on Monday. I can feel it. This leads me to my last point which I believe I also owe to SilentButDeadly. Every time you go out, expect to find three cool things. If you expect to find things you’ll be open to finding things and you’ll find them. The bright side is that it’s a no lose proposition. Whether you find sheds or not you’ll be outside, exercising, spending time with those you care about or getting some alone time in nature. Remember what they say about shed hunting: “When it’s good, it’s great. When it’s bad, it’s still pretty good!” Good luck and remember to post the pics of you first shed here! We’ll be waiting.

As someone with who's all thumbs when it comes to building anything, I've learned the hard way that DIY taxidermy is not always cheaper. With that said, Dale (and his wife Heather) at Wild Heritage Taxidermy were kind enough to help put the antlers of my little 2010 buck on a nice plaque. I think it looks great. Here are some pics: Dale and Heather are great people, easy to work with, and even met me in Payson for delivery. My only regret is that I didn't bring them a spring gobbler for a tail fan mount this year. Thanks Dale and Heather!

Thanks for the comments. I just thought it was a "pretty" buck. Not big. But just pretty. They all are though. Guess that's part of the attraction. Gino, here's that cell phone pic. If I knew it would show up so well on a computer I would have posted sooner. (Notice your cell hasn't been buzzing with pics of sheds I found this year. Been skunked so far but will try to fix that this weekend.)

Glad you got it squared away. Looking forward to your pics.

Interesting perspective... http://www.economist.com/blogs/democracyinamerica/2011/05/killing_bin_laden?fsrc=scn/fb/wl/bl/letscallitaday Not sure how I feel about this article yet, except the first thirteen words, of course. I agree with those.

Sweet! Story?

I dont think producing a picture profits us anything. I actually wouldnt have minded if they simply announced: Were no longer concerned with Osama Bin Ladens whereabouts. Number 2 most-wanted Al-Qaeda leader, you are now number 1. and left it that at that. Let them bring forward recordings or other proof that hes still alive. My response would be the same. Theres something very powerful about making someone simply disappear with no fanfare or trying too hard to prove what you did. But dont ask me. Im no Ph.D. in political science. Just an opinion.

No such thing as "average" sheds! Each is unique. Thanks for posting. Ya'll are making a killing this year. I still haven't glassed on up. Way to go! How'd you end up finding the lion?

WOW!!! check out these new sheds...

+ 1. The willful suspension of disbelief. Got me too. -
That's awesome! Great memories for them! I bet they're hooked for life now. Thank you for sharing this.

Awesome! It’s cool to see someone who’s into traditional bean shootery. Lots better than the new fangled ones they have today. But I guess painting it black, giving it a folding stock and putting “tactical” in the name lets them charge more.

+1! But this thread has given me some more hunting movies to check out. Thanks!

Wow! What an outing! (And I agree with your boy, a pick up like that makes the day!)
