Great WT Backpack Hunt
Jimmer Negamanee replied to yumabowhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Great story and pictures! What a memorable trip! (As for the skyline/towers issue, if people can recognize the location from pictures, they already know about that location. The fact that a remote place holds deer should be no bigger surprise than knowing that big bucks can be glassed up from the frontage roads of interstate highways. Plus, it's kind of like the warning you hear in investment commercials, "Past performance is no indication of future results.") -
Thanks for the historical data. It keeps all the hype in check until it's time. Hype is now in overdrive.

I understood from your other post that it was your dad’s buck. http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=28296 If that’s the case getting it mounted should put a hole in his pocket, not yours. (If he resists, tell him he can deduct it from your inheritance. ) I think it’s a beautiful buck with lots of character. And you guys have a great story with the dropped and dinged rifle. Heck, get the rifle mounted next to it! Ultimately, whether you do a shoulder mount, European mount or skull cap mount is a personal decision. My only advice is that money spent on a professional, well-regarded taxidermist is not wasted. I’ve had Dale from Wild Heritage Taxidermy do a skull cap mount for me and couldn’t be happier. (I keep threatening to bring him a turkey for a fan tail mount but my turkey calling is making my threat less than credible.) My dad had Clay from Mogollon Taxidermy do a European of his 6X bull AND my son’s spike. Again, great memories. We don’t regret it. Even the strongest memories fade but it’s nice to have something tangible to bring them back to life.

Mr. Quimby, You are a man of letters and have made a living as such. You are also a gentleman of the highest order; always patient, dignified and kind. Coming from you, this is the highest of compliments. It may be against some Internet norm or protocol to acknowledge your kindness but I don’t care. Thank you. -Jim

I don’t use the word “harvest” to refer to an individual animal. But I may call the X number of deer killed in a particular season a harvest. Words are just the clothes that our ideas wear. To me a euphemism is a gentler/nicer/wimpier (depending on your opinion) way of saying the same thing. If you’re saying something different, however, even slightly different, it’s not a euphemism, it’s a different word. Like red and pink. No one would say that pink is a euphemism for red. We use different words because they’re different ideas. BTW (my apologies to Mr. Quimby), this post is one of the reasons I like CWT.com so much. Many different views. Many different opinions. We are all stronger for it.

Awesome find! Love the kickers by the bases! Thanks for posting.

Sweet! Do the coues deer there wear leis? Any CWT.comers out there? It'd be funny to be in line for a slice of roast pig at a luau and see a "Shed Recovery Team" shirt! Have fun Amanda! You deserve it.

Oh I was referring to what others did. If I was talking about what I did the list would have included, missed, bricked, air balled, forgot the bullets at the truck, scared away, spooked, jumped, ran off, couldn't find, etc. Hilarious! I’ll add “shoot and release” to that list! For some reason I seem to use “get” a lot. As in “Did you get your deer this year?” or “My dad got an elk.” Not sure why. I “kill” flies and mice though. Maybe words like “take,” “harvest” or “get” are not simply euphemisms but, like Amanda said, connote greater meaning. Maybe those words imply more than simply killing the animal, but instead, killing for some consumptive purpose, i.e. that you do something with it. (In that regard, “killing” is not the end of the process but the beginning. Likewise, would we report having “killed” an animal that we couldn’t recover even if we were sure it was dead?) “Kill,” although literally true, used to shock me a little when I first heard it applied to big game animals. Maybe that was because of how I use it for flies and mice. But I’ve heard so many respectful and grateful hunters use it that I don’t really even notice it anymore. This topic comes up when I talk about hunting with non-hunters. When I come back from a hunting trip it’s always funny to hear a non-hunters struggle with this same dilemma as they awkwardly try to ask me about the outcome of the hunt. Inevitably “catch” comes out their mouths and, upon further discussion, we have a good laugh about that. Ultimately, I think it’s a matter of personal choice and I don’t correct people one way or the other. (Except “catch”, I’ll correct that. Unless we’re talking about fishing. )

Big Buck MISS SHOT!(Video)
Jimmer Negamanee replied to ADDICT's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Beautiful buck! On the bright side (but maybe it's too soon for the "bright side"), it was a clean miss and the "How'd you miss him?" story will provide campfire fodder for a long time to come. -
Two sets in one year? Awesome! They're in great shape too! Look like fresh drops. Thanks for the pictures.

Great finds! I agree with both of the previous comments. I can see arguments for and against the "match hypothesis." Either way, great conversations will be had! Do they look like they’re the same age? (The right one looks a little older but it could be washed out from the flash of the camera or it could have been dropped in a place where it received more direct sun light. Both could make it appear older even if it was dropped the same year.) Looks like same genetics for sure. Again, great finds. Thanks for posting.

Accel golf clubs, Dunlap bag and Wilson pull cart for sale as pictured. No putter but that’s okay as long as you put it in the cup from the fairway. No 5 wood either. Both are probably in a water hazard somewhere. Quite a few balls and tees in the bag. Size 10 golf shoes available too for no charge. $50 obo.

wolves on the Strip and the Kaibab
Jimmer Negamanee replied to bonuspointjohn's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
So is the answer no wolves anywhere? That doesn’t seem like a very satisfying answer to my tree-hugging self. As for those who advocate for the 3 Ss (not that anyone on here would do that), they are advocating for common criminals. Civil disobedience is one thing, in the words of MLK Jr., “t was practiced superbly by the early Christians, who were willing to face hungry lions and the excruciating pain of chopping blocks rather than submit to certain unjust laws of the Roman Empire. To a degree, academic freedom is a reality today because Socrates practiced civil disobedience. In our own nation, the Boston Tea Party represented a massive act of civil disobedience” but, at the same time, “[o]ne who breaks an unjust law must do so openly, lovingly, and with a willingness to accept the penalty. I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.” To me, those who sneak around and break laws they don’t personally agree with while trying desperately not to get caught are not advancing their cause. They’re simply committing crimes. I don’t see a difference between the 3 Ss and using desert bighorn sheep for target practice off the deck of a boat. Both are illegal and both are wrong, IMHO. But that’s just me. Luckily, on CWT.com we have a diversity of opinions. Hearing the other side of an issue either makes us adjust our opinions or strengthens our beliefs. Either way, we win. -
Golf clubs, bag and pull cart
Jimmer Negamanee replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Classified Ads
 Well, I figured that when my friends started referring to a really severe slice as "a Jimmer" and I spent most of my time thinking "I wish I had a .22. There are rabbits all over this place!" It was time for me to give up the game. This could make a decent starter set though (with the addition of a putter). -
Sweet! Great lesson about ALWAYS keeping your eyes open sheds. Thanks for posting.

Great job Jett (and Gino)! Great write up and awesome buck! Way to get it done.

Here's an interesting whitetail pick up I found while pheasant hunting in North Dakota this past weekend. (I'd never pheasant hunted before but now know why it's a way of life in some places.) It has no eye guards at all except a little bump on the left side, like he thought about growing one.
