Yeah those look nice. I have some that need some color too. Here's a link to his earlier post on the subject. (And ccran is right, looks like he used mud.) http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/40359-2nd-attempt-at-coloring-sheds/ I think the sheds and the shed shelf look great! And the turkey feather is a nice touch. I'm sure it will make your wife happy to hear that your CWT.com friends approve of her decor!

Thought that looked odd too. Maybe his tongue is out licking his nose? That's my best guess. Great pictures! Thanks for for posting.

Definitely not too late. Shed hunting is a year around pursuit. Everyone loves fresh drops (browns or brownies) but like Non-Typical Solutions and Snapshot pointed out, the number of chalkies that get found every year mean that a significant percentage (maybe a majority) of sheds dont get found the first year. Furthermore, I'd venture to guess that many, many sheds are never found. They simply get chewed up by critters or broken down by the elements and go back to the Earth. Ive found sheds that were at least a year old (probably more) VERY close to VERY well travelled areas. People just missed them. Its easy to do. I guarantee that we have both walked right by plenty sheds. So go out. Have fun with your family. Bring water. Be safe. If you find a shed, great! If you dont, youll still have fun being outside. If you want to feel like youre being productive regardless of whether or not you find a shed, bring a plastic grocery bag with you pick up a few pieces of litter as you go. It gets you used to looking for small things and, although I have no proof of this, could help your shed-hunting karma. (I suggest the bag because I usually end up with pockets stuffed with litter.) Let us know how it goes.

+ 1! You SLAYED 'em! Never seen a set of coues sheds that were that small. Post them in the "micro-sheds" pinned thread. I think they qualify! Thanks for posting.

I had a great morning looking for critters

Great pictures! Thank you for posting. (I wonder how that poor one-legged quail gets around? ) -
Awesome find! Your perseverance paid off! Well done.

+ 1! Simply amazing! Beautiful animal! Thank you for posting here.

Wild video! Thanks for posting. I thought the logic of the authorities was interesting. Basically, they didnt want to tranquilize her because she might be pregnant and they, therefore, had concerns about her health and the health of her calf if they doped her up for thirty minutes to remove the tire. BUT, they have no problem leaving a tire on her neck indefinitely (they left a feeder hoop on one elk for 6 years) while the tire makes her more susceptible to predation (I could prolly run down an elk if it was weighed down with a tire), rubs her raw and causes a wound that won't heal because it keeps opening up every time she trots and makes her more prone to infection. Doesnt make a lot of sense to me. But I should tread lightly because Im not out there on the front lines of wildlife management, where the rubber meets the road, as they say.

Mule Deer matching set. Lucked out!
Jimmer Negamanee replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Shed Hunting
Thank you all for the comments. I'm confident I'll never find another pair this size in such good shape so I bit the bullet and will have them professionally mounted by a CWT.com sponsor (Mogollon Taxidermy). I'll try to remember to post pictures when they're done. I've done a DIY plaque mount on a small but very typical and freshly dropped coues set I found back in '08 (posted previously) but didn't want to risk it with these. (DIY taxidermy is kinda like DIY out-patient surgery, i.e., you gotta be really careful not to mess things up.) T.J., good seeing you too. I think you're Peg's good luck charm. (At least I'd keep telling her that! : ) -
Went out with the faithful and sweet but generally useless shed-dog for an over-night shed hunting/turkey scouting trip up north. She had fun running around, climbing on stuff and sniffing the scents she can't smell in the back yard. We lucked out and walked up on this matching set of fresh mule deer sheds. Here are the "as they lie" pictures: They still had bright-red blood on them (found on 3/16/13). I thought it would be too early for mule deer sheds but I guess not. Here's the pic of the bases: These were the only sheds we found but we (maybe me more than the dog) were super stoked to have found them. They are in perfect shape, pretty darn typical, and also fairly tall. Here are the side by side pictures: Amanda's already seen these at Jay Scott's turkey hunting seminar (Thanks Jay!) but for anyone else, thanks for looking.

Saw this article on feral pigs in NM: http://news.yahoo.com/1m-pilot-project-aims-feral-pigs-080006182--finance.html I hope they don't get a foothold there (or here in AZ). Sounds like they're a heck of a problem once established.

WOW! You will tell your grand-children about this! Thanks for sharing this once in a lifetime experience with us.

Looks like an Australian Kelpie or maybe Australian Kelpie mix. They're good cattle or sheep dogs. Maybe you could check with local ranches. Good luck finding her home. Thanks for posting.

Adorable! Love the concentration! You'll have a good little huntin' buddy there pretty soon.

Correct, as usual, King Friday. It was Dylan. Regarding question #2, the answer is, to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty, the folk/country singer Gillian Welch (with David Rawlings). Heres a link to a Welch/Rawlings song: Heres one with Welch, Emmylou Harris and Allison Krauss:

Good luck! You have to go where the jobs are and it sounds like the combination of all the things you mentioned (pay, schedule, more and higher level experience, etc.) made the decision a no-brainer for you and your family. Plus, seven bucks and unlimited does is an incredible limit! Your family will eat well. Looking forward to future posts from you.

For those who do not know of why DesertBull is so excited, heres a link to the video for Wagon Wheel (Viewer discretion is advised due to the scantily dressed, tattooed women undulating in the video.): O.C.M.S. trivia questions: 1. Who received co-writing credit Wagon Wheel? 2. Who is the woman at the ticket table?
