    Obama's America

At risk of dredging this post to the top, I think, perhaps, it may be meant for the "Non-hunting related Politics" forum section instead of "The Campfire" section where we're all staring over our cold beverages at a dancing and crackling fire, BS-ing, asking random questions, telling a lie or two, or wondering how many more hunting seasons we have in our backs, knees and eyes.

    Teachers enjoy!

My spouse is a teacher and I routinely see her heading off to work with reams of paper, writing utensils, Kleenex and paper towels. She even raids my Clif Bar stash for hungry students. I tell her she works in the only profession where you steal office supplies from home and take them to work. For people who see only the summer break, I'll tell you there are many weekends and evenings spent outside the classroom grading, prepping or otherwise trying make everything run smoothly. To our educators I say: Thank you for your service. Here are a few of my favorite Thomas Jefferson quotes on education: "The tax which will be paid for [the] purpose [of education] is not more than the thousandth part of what will be paid to kings, priests and nobles who will rise up among us if we leave the people in ignorance." --Thomas Jefferson to George Wythe, 1786. "If the condition of man is to be progressively ameliorated, as we fondly hope and believe, education is to be the chief instrument in effecting it." --Thomas Jefferson to M. A. Jullien, 1818. "It becomes expedient for promoting the public happiness that those persons, whom nature has endowed with genius and virtue, should be rendered by liberal education worthy to receive, and able to guard the sacred deposit of the rights and liberties of their fellow citizens; and that they should be called to that charge without regard to wealth, birth or other accidental condition or circumstance." --Thomas Jefferson: Diffusion of Knowledge Bill, 1779.

    Kodiak Bear charge

Wow! Pretty sure I don't have the intestinal fortitude for that. That GoPro footage at the end is wild. Also, it has a clip of one of my favorite Corb Lund song: The Truth Comes Out. Here's a link if anyone wants to listen to all of it:

    Funeral song

Interesting post DesertBull. Thank for thinking of it. I like all the suggestions and have been exposed to different music because of this post. I've got several songs but I really like this one, especially because it deals with his idea of an afterlife: Harry McClintock's Big Rock Candy Mountains Maybe we coues deer hunters could add a verse or two. "Where every day is opening day And you always draw a tag Where you get your deer, every year And you never have to brag." Or something like that.

    If big foot was real?

It’s notoriously hard to prove a negative but I am convinced there is no Bigfoot. Furthermore, I’m so sure there is no Bigfoot that I publicly declare my intention to shoot Bigfoot if I ever saw one. What’s more, I hereby invite every thoughtful skeptic to also vow to shoot Bigfoot on sight. This decision will have many beneficial effects and, because only thoughtful, even-tempered, critical thinkers need apply, no negative effects will be realized. Hear me out. By definition, any yahoo who is salivating at the opportunity to take time off work and hunt down Bigfoot for the mere “sport” of shooting him doesn’t qualify as a “thoughtful, even-tempered, critical thinker”. The whole point is that there is no Bigfoot so the only people who should be taking time off of work to look for him have probably also taken time off work to attend numerous Star Trek conventions. What I’m saying is that if I happen to be in great outdoors and I happen to have a gun and I happen to see Bigfoot, and I’m absolutely sure it’s not a bear, (or some other animal already known to science) I will shoot it. The benefits from all of us publicly declaring our intention to shoot Bigfoot on sight will be immediate. First of all,as word gets out that skeptics are finally going to get off the fence and put their cartridges where their mouths are, the number of people who think it’s funny to don wookie costumes and go tromping around the forest will decrease precipitously. The same goes for those making fake tracks. It then follows that Bigfoot sightings by otherwise credible, city dwellers who, despite their good intentions, can’t tell the difference between a brown bear and black bear that happens to be brown, will go down correspondingly. Now there may be one among you who is afraid of embarking on such a bold plan of action because you think that maybe, justmaybe, there really could be a Bigfoot. If that is the case, perhaps you really don’t belong in our little club of “thoughtful, even-tempered, critical thinkers”. Let me explain, however, that even if you do feel this way, our course of action is still the correct one. Let’s all willfully suspend our disbelief and assume for a moment that Bigfoot exists. Now let’s assume that you saw him in the woods and shot him dead. What would happen? First, you couldn’t be guilty of poaching because, as muledeerarea33? said, the law can’t proscribe shooting a creature that has never even been described by science. In addition, if it really was a Bigfoot, it was either the last one or was part of population so small, in a habitat so fragmented, that Bigfoot, as a species, was on a bobsled to extinction anyway and you passing on the shot would not have helped. Finally, if you shot Bigfoot you would have done a great deal to advance scientific knowledge. (I suggest you don’t field dress it and keep it cold if you can). Top researchers from across the country will be knocking down you door. And untold fame and riches await you. All of this is, of course, will never come to pass because there is no such thing as Bigfoot. What will happen, however,is that by answering this call to arms, you can sleep soundly knowing that you are doing your part to fight an environmental fraud. Anyone can talk the skeptical talk but it takes a brave soul to walk the skeptical walk. We have upped the ante. And they will fold. Be brave.

    Taxadermist info

All the taxidermists who are CWT.com sponsors have been vetted and their work is posted here for all to see as are the comments of people who've entrusted their trophies to them. And they are in many different parts of State (including the Valley). Although you asked for a "west valley" taxidermist, my suggestion would be to pick the taxidermist that you think will do the best job regardless of geography because you'll only have to drive to the taxidermist twice (and probably many months apart) but you'll be looking at your trophy and reliving the memories of the hunt for a lifetime. Good luck on your hunt and post pics when you're done!

    No sheds but fun trip

It's always great to get away and see some beautiful country and you saw some cool stuff too. Regarding your question, yes, generally the smaller the antlers, the longer it takes them to drop. I've seen spikes during the first (late April) turkey season. Sometimes it's just one antler but I've seen them packing both.

    I-10 and 75th Ave.

I saw your pick-up on I-10 headed west today (Sunday, 4-10-16) at about 10:00 A.M. You had a cowboy hat on your dash and I was the dirty hippie who gave you the peace sign as I passed. Rock on.

112coues, doing the mount together will multiply the memories! Go for it and post the pics of the finished process.

    My boys went "treasure hunting"

Awesome find at any age! May I suggest having them mounted? Clay Goldman of Mogollon Taxidermy (and CWT.com sponsor) in Payson, AZ did a matching muley set for me and they look great. I think taxidermist call it a "plaque mount" or "panel mount" or something like that. I did my own mounting job with a pair of coues sheds but I like the professional job much better. (DIY taxidermy is kinda like DIY outpatient surgery in that you can do it and come out ok, sometimes.) It's so rare to find a matching set and to find a fresh set without sun damage or critter nibbles is even more remarkable. It will make a great conversation piece for years to come.

    ATTENTION:: ( -1 ) wild game processor

Schreiner's Sausage used to do boned out meat. Then they stopped. Then I found Denmark Sausage and they did a great job on my 2015 coues deer summer sausage. I think I have one roll left. Meat cutting and wrapping is a skill that needs experience to develop and sausage making is an art form. Not to mention the retentiveness and OCD to be fastidiously clean and meticulously organized so the meat you take in is the meat you send out. High quality processing is worth paying a premium for. I'll give CWT.com sponsor Miller's Southwestern Processing a try next time I'm fortunate enough to need game processing. Looks like they do sausage too. Yum! http://www.southwesternprocessing.com

    Looking for English Lab puppy

Hey Manns520, This forum, "Forum Help", is usually for questions on how to do stuff on the website like how post pictures or links or how to deal with other tech issues. You might have better luck posting your request in the "Classifieds" forum with "want to buy" (or WTB for short) in the title or maybe in the "Small game, Upland Bird and Waterfowl Hunting" forum. Good luck on your search and be sure to post pics of your new puppy! There's not much out there as cute as a Lab puppy, except maybe other kinds of puppies. -Jimmer

    garish colors

Mine is normal from the home computer but I get the holiday colors when I momentarily, and quite inadvertently, browse over to CWT.com from the work computer. P.S. Excellent use of the word "garish". It's been too long since I've seen that word.

Welcome to Q5 Outdoor Products as a new sponsor of CWT!

Welcome Q5 Outdoor Products! The vests look like the perfect marriage of form and function. (And not only are they made in the USA but in Arizona. Huge selling point to me.) Thank you, Q5, for supporting CWT.com. I'll be forwarding a link to your site to all by quail hunting friends.
