This is my second year archery elk in 11M, and not in all my scouting trips and hunt days last year, or scouting trips this year, or any of the (4) game cameras I have up there have I ran across a coues deer. What general area were you in? Just curious. Nice find and nice buck!

42 yrs old, 6'0" tall and 272lbs was just too much. I started Medifast in April and as of my weekly weigh in on Tuesday of this week was at 227. It's a combination of the meal program and the gym for me, but I am looking forward to feeling better on my upcoming scouting trips, though I never let the extra lb's stop me before lol. Good luck to everyone fighting this battle... it has been a struggle for me my whole adult life. I, for one, am refusing to give up - couldn't care less how many times I fail or falter, what is important is to make the next good decision so I can watch my kids have kids and hang around my wife for a good long time.

Thanks for the clarification, Lee. I bet there is going to be a whole lot of VERY upset campers up north come Memorial Day weekend. I wouldn't have thought twice about this stuff if not for this site.

Please help me out if I am confused, but the way I read the Coconino map is camping is allowed 300" from centerline of road on roads that accept motorized vehicle camping. The Kaibab allows camping on all indicated roads, but has a 30' from edge of road for vehicle restriction in most areas. Is this correct?

+1 on getting up under the rim and glassing up - they will be working their way down in the afternoons, and up in the mornings.

I have had the 22n late rifle hunt, and an 838 yard shot is what it took for me The successful late archery tag holders I spoke with while scouting for my hunt (and there were only a few successful ones) sat water that had been well scouted. You can get it done, but a LOT of time in the woods scouting is what its going to take. I have also had the early rifle hunt in 22n... That, my friend, is a whole different story.

I don't know - if you classify the area that holds elk by hunting unit, and look at all the units in which you can hunt elk (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,15,16,17,18,19,21,22,23,24,27,28,31,32) then I think the kid may have you ;-) Good for the kid LOL.

Just curious as to when the latest CC hits have come up. I think I have read an post about a Saturday hit, but nothing since. My son and I got hit late Friday for elk, but lots of friends and family haven't been hit and they are starting to panic a little Anyone have a charge today?

I always thought Colorado's system was a bit kooky until I became a resident here. Now I truely think it's amazing. It's a true preference point system. Whoever has the most gets the tag. Makes planning and clearing your schedule a bit nicer as well. They also have a hybrid for high demand hunts that gives those with less than max points a chance. Pretty cool. Should az change over? Absolutely not. I would rather have a chance to get drawn every year and be disappointed than know for a fact that I was going to have to wait 15 years for a tag. How miserable would that be.

By the way, the turkeys we have got have been with large cut diameter expandable heads and one with the gobbler guillotine (head shot at 15 yards - very impressive)

As stubborn as we are, my buddies and I always use our bows. The only successful hunts we have had have been in a blind with decoys out. for us, anyway, the act of drawing a bow without the blind has been a dealbreaker. Many, many, many times. Now I'm just kinda depressed about our lack of turkey hunting skills.

Are you guys getting hit today or just checking cards now and were hit last week? I got hit Friday for archery elk and my son for a jr elk, but haven't heard about anyone getting hit since Saturday - lots of friends and family getting nervous.

I'm right there with you. I love the busy signal in the same way I love the crowds at Christmas - I am excited for about the whole season! As I sit here with no hits on my card for me or my two sons, I need whatever joy I can get LOL.

The early elk hunters will still have 5 months for scouting." James Bite your tongue, man. We love the excitement of the draw - why would we want to just have an exact date? where is the fun in that? Some people just don't like the whole Christmas morning excitement thing.

There are some people who use their atvs to drive cross country all over the place looking for sheds. ....And those SHOULD be cited. I think the punishment needs to INCREASE on those that do this. My son and I were over a mile and a half from a road in unit 7W shed hunting last year and having a great day hiking - until a dude and a lady on a rhino came driving through with a bed full of sheds. couldn't get a plate #, and they didn't want to stop to chat. Lazy. Just plain old fat lazy.
