How are the Dove's looking????
AZMThunter replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Haven't hunted dove for a couple years now, but my youngest boy has asked if I will take him a few times this year. We used to hunt a farm operation on the west side, but access is now denied. Anyone know where to start looking this year? Just like general area kind of thing? Trying not to drive 3 hours south for dove... Hard on the pocketbook with fuel prices so high. -
Glassing from Myrtle Point off the rim road down into 22, I had coyotes circling a bear feeding on a dead elk carcass; a bachelor herd of bulls bedded, (2) coues bucks feeding / wandering through, and a small mulie herd (good buck, spike, and several does) feeding. Total radius of all this was maybe 600 yards. No, I don't think animals are all that pushed away by other animals (wolves and cats maybe) Just my 2 cents

Amazon Local Register - More Anti Gun Agenda Pushing
AZMThunter posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Those of you who own a business or need to accept credit cards and are tempted to go with the new Amazon Local Register - Be aware! Yes, you will save a percentage point on your transaction fees versus Square or Paypal (1.75% until 2016, 2.5% thereafter) BUT - Amazon has decided to push an agenda against PERFECTLY LEGAL people and businesses by disallowing ANY weapons related transactions with their service. I actually called them this morning (Yes, they have an 888 number that works on Sunday) and asked them about this - The rep I spoke with said that I could probably get around it by selectively naming the products I sold, but that yes, indeed, Amazon's policy was no weapons related transactions (What exactly is "weapons related" I do not know.) -
Amazon Local Register - More Anti Gun Agenda Pushing
AZMThunter replied to AZMThunter's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Please keep in mind that this is not just Amazon saying you can't sell these things on their website, this is Amazon saying you are not allowed to sell these things AT ALL if you want your customers to be able to pay with a credit card and you use Amazon Local Register as you CC reader system. -
Amazon Local Register - More Anti Gun Agenda Pushing
AZMThunter replied to AZMThunter's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I checked Amazon's store prohibited items list and found quite a few things that are banned offered for sale - either someone is being tricky with wording or maybe it's just not monitored closely... Maybe Amazon is just covering their butt? I didn't realize paypal was the same... I am not talking about FFL items here, things like folding stocks, magazines, and 3-point and single point slings are banned. From their site: Gun parts and accessories, other than the above permitted parts and accessories, such as: Assault weapon conversion kits Assault weapon grips and foregrips Pistol grips designed for attachment to an assault weapon Assault weapon end plates and sling plates Barrels Barrel shrouds Battery assist levers Camouflaging gun containers Chokes Converters that can give a firearm automatic capability Detachable carry handles and assault rifle carry handles Ejection port and ejection port covers Frames, such as components Gas blocks and gas tubes Kits that can be used to create gun magazines Magazine components Magazines Multi-burst trigger activators Multi-rail systems, including quad rails and covers Receivers, including lower and upper receivers Selector levers and selector detents Silencers Single point, 3-point and tactical slings Slide fire stock and weapons kits Solvent trap oil filter adapters Takedown pins, pivot pins, cam pins Assault weapon and AR-specific tools Telescoping, folding, or collapsible stocks Threaded barrel adapters Trigger assemblies All internal/moving gun parts, such as: Bolt catch releases and bolt catch assembles Buffer tubes Firing pins Trigger assemblies -

How Many Points for 22 or 23 Dec WT Will It Take?
AZMThunter posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
So, I was fortunate enough to hunt mulies during December back in 2007 up 12AW on the Kaibab. I have, since then, been applying for a december WT tag in 22 or 23... Every Year... Since 2007... This is starting to suck. How many points will it take? -
Magically drew 12A East late hunt, looking for scouting/hunting tips
AZMThunter replied to CouesHunterAZ's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
+1 I did this for my hunt in 2007... I was drawn along with my son, my father-in-law, and my uncle-in-law (neither of which had ever hunted.) I was worried because my FIL has some health issues and I knew he wouldnt be able to walk much on uneven terrain. Winds up that, in addition to running a first class guide service, Duwayne is just one heck of a guy. I paid not very much for guides for all four of us and we had the time of our lives. Never did tell my father-in-law that it cost me anything lol - he would have killed me for spending money on him. There just aren't words for how grateful I was - still am. And, for what its worth, if all you can afford is the map then by all means find a way to do it. His book isn't too shabby either, or his video ;-) -
How Many Points for 22 or 23 Dec WT Will It Take?
AZMThunter replied to AZMThunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Last year you would have been guaranteed 22 with 9 points if you were a resident. This year it would have been slightly better because the tag numbers were doubled, so maybe 30% odds with 8 points? If you have really been putting in every year since 2007, without missing a year, without drawing another tag, then you should have had at least 9 points this year as long as you did your part and got your hunters education in order. Either the amount of high-point holding residents drastically changed, or you didn't have 9 points. As of right now, according to the updated bonus point, I have 7 species point, 1 loyalty, and one hunters ed. So I had 8 going into the draw this year. either way, it feels like a long time to go without rifle hunting for deer. I may do a leftover, I just do not have the experience with any of the southern units. It may just be archery again this year - there are worse things. -
I was talking with my business partner today about the deer/sheep draw... He had forgotten to put in for sheep and wound up putting his nephew in for deer last minute as well - both in the day added by AZGFD because their site went down. Neither of the apps drew tags - no surprise with the sheep but a general deer tag in 9 is like 47% draw odds... Just wondering if anybody that used that extra day to apply wound up pulling a tag for anything. And - in advance - this is not intended to flame anyone that benefited from the extra day or to torch those that think the extra day shouldn't have been added. It is genuinely out of curiosity. Congrats to all those that drew - I wasn't one of them, but my boys were ;-)

How Many Points for 22 or 23 Dec WT Will It Take?
AZMThunter replied to AZMThunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I am actually looking forward to losing these points so that I can put in for the regular old October tags again and go hunting more lol. -
I am curious as to what the best solution to this is? If AZGFD were to move the application deadline up for deer/sheep a month, would that be enough? There would still be those that wanted longer for scouting / planning / work scheduling. I kind of view the AZ draw system similar to how I view the US government. It is the worst one in the world... Except for all the other ones.

Looking for a first rig for my youngest hunter... Does this truck have A/C? Anything leaking? Pretty reliable?

Impact Church in Scottsdale - My kids LOVE that place. Especially my 19 year old daughter, who was the first to go to one of their services when Tim Tebow came to speak. Started by Andre Wadsworth, former AZ Cardinal. If we aren't there, we are probable at The Catholic Community of the Bessed Sacrament.

How to bring about a consistent draw result release date
AZMThunter replied to Xnt's topic in Elk Hunting
They won't be out later than the 18th. They will come out sooner - try and have fun with the anticipation. It's like a kid waiting for Christmas... When else do we get to feel like this as adults? Frankly, I wish they would hit all the cards up front and give refunds to those that are unsuccessful. It would limit the number of non-res applicants a little bit, but mainly we wouldn't know if we were drawn at all till the results were up - Those are the days of anticipation I really miss. -
Have a friend that got hit today for speedgoat... Transaction is dated 3/24/14 as well - weird.

Those that set out looking to be offended are usually successful. If it's funny, then laugh at it. Got a good joke about bald chubby irish guys? I will laugh at it.

Not Drawn Not Drawn Heartbreaking. Congrats to all that drew and good luck!

Called this morning and got the "draw results are unavailable at this time" message. Just called again and it is back to my spring draw results. Somethin needs to happen quick - The suspense is a killer.

If the deadline is 7:00 pm on Tuesday and you are filling out an app at 1:00 pm Tuesday, you are NOT a procrastinator. You are perfectly within the time parameters. I would submit that those of you who filled them out weeks ago have entirely too much free time on your hands and need to be more productive ;-)
