Lived in Puyallup, WA for 14 years and spent a lot of time down on the Oregon coast... It is cool to see elk out there. Took the family up there to Neskowin just a couple summers ago, and as we were walking from the house to the beach, jumped a small herd of blacktail deer bedded down in the tall grass right before the sand - always fun to see something unexpected like that.

Tick....... - - - - - - -- - - - Tock...... - - - - - - - - This is going to be a long day if that phone line doesn't start giving me a busy signal!
-
I forget - what's the number to g&f again? Ha ... I think I mumble that number in my sleep sometimes.

I'm not getting any work done! I repeat, i am not getting any work done! This is beginning to seriously cut into my efficiency. C'mon already - it's like my kids waiting for Christmas.

I agree with the online application - that was sure nice for the brief time we had it... Especially if you, like me, are the one doing the applications for several species and several groups of people. When it comes to a specific date that the results will be out, I think I prefer our system as it stands. Although azgfd probably need to bump the whole process up by a month in order to facilitate the draw now in place for some archery hunts. If you don't get drawn, the most exiting thing you did was wait anxiously for the results to come out. I like the suspense.

I tried to view the video as well and it shows it as private - is there a way to still see it?

how many times have u called
AZMThunter replied to regge090's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Ahh Man... I just got three busy signals in a row. That will get the blood pumping! Got through on the fourth try... "Draw results are unavailable at this time." Brutal. -
I love the posts about people speaking with game g&f... don't they say the same thing every single draw? It just cracks me up... don't you have anything better to do with your time? Leave them alone so they have time to actually complete the draw! Sheesh, seriously! On another note, I just got off the phone with the draw lady, and she said next week I am such a loser. Hunting - It's not so much a lifestyle, or even a hobby... It's a sickness, really.

how many times have u called

3 or 4 per day since last Wed or Thur... Like I have anything better to do - work is only so fulfilling, then I have to occupy my time with something useful. -
Alright, enough is enough... The suspense is killing me. Not so much for me, as my odds for a late Kaibab tag are small to say the least - But I am dying to see if my 10 year old drew a jr tag or not. This kind of stress can't be good for you.

Are the Southern Units Really That Dangerous?
AZMThunter posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I haven't hunted down south for several years, since we started hunting a central unit for javelina about 5 years ago. All of my deer hunting has been for mulies in the northern half of the state. I didn't wind up putting in down south this year, but mainly because I am not that familiar yet with what would be good areas. As I was lurking around some of the posts, I found a lot of info / photos of smugglers & illegals in some of the areas, as well as several stories of up close & personal encounters. Is it something you guys consider when putting in? I would normally not have given it any thought, but my youngest guy is going with me more and more, and I am curious what you guys with a lot of time down there think. -
Non-lead bullets on the Strip
AZMThunter replied to soazarcher's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
My oldest son and I, as well as my father-in-law and uncle-in-law, all hunted the late deer 12AW hunt in 2007. My father-in-law used the G&F supplied ammo, the rest of us were using what we were comfortable with. I was pondering the potential impact of the lead issue as I sat one afternoon glassing (6) condors all roosted in a large snag. They are impressive birds, and I probably would not have given them much thought had the lead bullet issue not been fresh on my mind. I am not an expert on lead, condors, or any mix of the two. What I am is a fan of wildlife. I am also a fan of lass government regulating what I can and cannot do. The final impact on my hunt? I used my regular rounds, dropped a nice buck at 458 yards, and buried the gut pile under a large mound of rocks in the hopes that any potential harm to condors or other predators could be minimized. I doubt it was a perfect solution. I also doubt that it would have any impact one way or another what my two 150 grain bullets did to the condors. I do know that most of us want no harm to come to the wildlife we enjoy... intentional harm excepted :-) The end result is that a little knowledge of the issue made a change to my hunt - I would not have normally buried anything under rocks. It wasn't any big deal to do, and if it can help out a little, what is the harm. Just don't tell me I have to do it. Rubs us all a little wrong. -
Duwane Adams glassing class
AZMThunter replied to yumabowhunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Yeah, glassing with those guys is humbling. The nice thing about it is after you learn some of their techniques, the soles of my shoes seem to wear slower than the seat of my camo pants. And I see a lot more game... a LOT more! It may be two miles away, and I may not get a succesful stalk - but there is something to be said for hunting an animal that you know is there versus waiting for a little luck to shine oin you while still hunting through the forest. -
Duwane Adams glassing class
AZMThunter replied to yumabowhunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
After My son, and I drew late mulie Kaibab tags in 2007, I contacted Duwayne to get one of his maps with all of the info. An amazing guy, that Adams... I wound up, for the first time ever, going on a guided hunt. It was, to say the least, an awesome experience. Not just the time hanging in camp with an unbeleivable group, but the amount of knowledge that we gained. It could take a couple of generations of regular Joes out hunting to get that kind of insight. As for the glass... The first thing I did when I returned was start planning a way to purchase a set of those Swaro 15x15's. It can be done with modest means... But it is not easy to be sure. I can tell you that there is truth in the "Buy the best glass you can afford" argument... you will not be dissapointed going with the best gear. That said, I can tell you first hand that Swaro, Leica, and Zeiss is not the only glass you will find on a guides tripod - But there was only one other brand. Those where the Minox 15x56's... And those found a whole lot of deer up there. Check them out if your budget doesn't allow you the big three... If memory serves, they might have stopped making them, but they can still be found. Hope this helped. -
I have never hunted 22n before... was drawn for an early rifle bull tag - Where's your honey hole?
-
I have three very simple words, and I can't believe I am about to say them.... Early Rifle Bull I am actually shaking!
-
You guys that are screwing around with us realize that the overwhelming majority of us have weapons and know how to use them..... Right?

AZ Elk and Antelope Draw Date
AZMThunter replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
My guess was today @ 2:00... So much for my psychic powers. -
Nothing is getting done at work... And every time I call I get right through... And I am still drawn for spring turkey, still not drawn for jav. Crushing. This has got to stop... I am on my sixth cup of coffee and this can of tobacco is going fast today!

Don't mess with us man... Tensions are running high and this could put some of us over the top. Just to ease my own paranoia, I have only called three times this morning. Oh man, I am sick. Disturbed even.

How Many Times did you Call Today?
AZMThunter replied to GameHauler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This is crushing - I was on hold with AZGFD for the last 15 minutes with a question about my sons license. He is 9, soon to be 10, and we put him in for jr elk. Normally, the licenses come pretty quick and I was concerned that we hadn't received his yet. For what it is worth, the gal I spoke with said this year the licenses will be mailed out after the draw and the draw is not yet complete... and won't be for another few weeks. She said the same thing about the number of applicants - another record year for the number that put in. With that current info straight from the horses mouth, I am pretty sure the results should be out in another hour or so. -

No tech difficulties this morning... Just heard for the umpteenth time that I was drawn for turkey, not drawn for jav. Brutal. -
How Many Times did you Call Today?
AZMThunter replied to GameHauler's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I have only called 4 or 5 times today... checked the site another 4 or 5. I am amazed every year how much I look forward to a busy signal... or a website that you can't get on to. -
My son used a Pro Hunter in 7mm rem mag on his kaibab deer hunt in 2007 - 3x3 at 411 yds, and his antelope hunt same year - 200 yds. I used my Pro Hunter in 300 win mag in 2007 for antelope and deer - 327 yds for the goat and 458 for the buck. A good friend of mine had his Pro Hunter in 7mm rem mag on the 2008 late elk hunt in 7w - 905 yds and a lot of packing. Yeah, I guess I would have to say that I am a fan of the Pro Hunter. Clint
