So we packed in Sat morning straight up for a couple of hours, glassed up does. Then glassed so mulies in the flats. We moved, glassed, moved glassed, and glassed some more until dark. Just before dark we got to a little saddle with a big mesquite and some boulders for a wind break. We sat around boiled some water for our freeze dried meals, watched the fire, and got ready to do it again the next day. The weather was very warm and with the moon as bright as it was the deer were doing everything at night. Next day same as the first, later in the day my brother had to leave for work so we headed down the trail. That afternoon we did the usual, sit behind binos and look at the desert landscape of Southern AZ until about 4:30. That's when the deer suddenly appearded, does first then a couple of bucks. I decided that with a limited amount of time to hunt, I would have a go at them. I came up over the ridge and a white flag stood out against the darkening landscape. The first buck stepped out and dodged my first shot, the second found his rib cage but a little far back. My friend Orlando was still on him in the binos and said he had bedded down. I was losing light so I decide to sneak up and finish him. At about 50 yards he took off in a dead run, I hit him in the neck and flipped him completely over. He busted a point on the landing. Its funny how it can be slow one minute and action packed the next, This was only my second coues deer, I think I've missed 7 or 8 with my bow while stalking though. Ill post some pics when I get him back from the taxidermist.

Custom 10-22 in 17mach2 and 22lr. This gun has a Clark custom action set up in 17mach2 comes with bull barrel. It also has a bull barrel in 22lr, comes with 2 factory mags, it has hogue benchrest style stock and a 4-12x scope, and a bipod. Im not sure of the make on the scope, but it will shoot one hole at 50yds with most ammo. I have two boxes of 17 ammo to go with it. Id like to get $500 out of it, nut Im open to trade offers, thanks Jeff 480-215-9760

Thursday night I met a couple guys I know on the road to Roosevelt. These two have never hunted in AZ for deer before, they were in for a treat. We set up a few cots and got a little rest. We got up early and got to the first hill, the start of a long day hiking. The wind was blowing pretty heavy early. The only thing we glassed were some does in pockets out of the wind. Finally the wind started dying down and glassing was alot better. We came up over a ridge at around 10 and a couple of bucks jumped out of their beds. The first buck made a mistake at 150yds, he stood still just long enough for Brians 243 to shut his lights off. The other buck zigged and zagged and wouldn't give Jesse a good shot. After a long hike these guys were still on top of the world. The only thing that could have been better would be cooler weather. These guys were DONE by time we got back to the truck. We never saw another person where we were the first day. The second day we saw at least 40 vehicles on the road we were on. I even saw a CWT sticker on a White Dodge on FR71. -Jeff

jeffcros replied to ROCKSLAYER's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I had 4 friends with tags in 23, 2 filled on Sat and other 2 filled today. 3 toms and 1 hen beards were 9", 8" and 5" I had plenty of pictures of turkeys before they shot. I put a camera up last weekend and by Fri afternoon I had over 1000 pics of turkeys. There were even birds gobbling. -
I've delt with some good G&F officers and bad, Its amazing to me that the G&F officers were out in the woods looking for downed game. Its too bad they cared nothing about getting the horns to the owned. Do you think the same thing would have happened if the bull had been a small raghorn or spike. I doubt it. The dumbass that shot at you guys-- you just hope carma teaches him something in the future!

Something like that has happened to all of us. If it hasn't, you haven't shot at enough animals. Aint that the truth!

If you're looking for a whitetail guide I would contact Matt with Borderland Adventures. He is one of the hardest working guides for his cliets I have ever met. Last year I missed shots at exceptional coues bucks (100+) with my bow and he never slowed down he just kept spotting more. Then helped me take a mulie in Dec. He also helped my son get his first spring turkey last year. Matt is the real deal!-Jeff
