Like every one else is saying, green areas, look for droppings, and corn doesn't hurt. Once they find the corn, it will be part of their routine. Here are a few pics from last years scouting for the spring hunt. Good luck!

Cody, you are a true sportsman! Helping people that are not "close" takes a person that loves to do it!Great Job! The future of hunting depends upon this type of attitude!

Friday we left the house around noon and headed south. We set up camp and were glassing by 4. After watching a couple of mulie does for awhile we spotted a couple of Javelina about a mile away. So we took off. John, Dale and myself hurried over to where we knew they would be. When we topped the hill they were a little further than I thought they would be. At 77 yds it was too far with the wind for an arrow, so we decided to try and get a little closer. The wind was swirling just enough for the 2 pigs to catch some scent and strart to spook. Thats when Johns Caspian open gun let loose of alot of rounds and put the javi down. We watched the pig in the binos for a few minutes before deciding he was down for good. But when we walked up, the pig had other plans. He took off running when we got to about 10 ft. John pulled up a xd and rolled him with a few shots. We were amazed at how much lead this javi took. After a few pics and a little hike back to the truck it was dark. Another great opening day! We had a great hunt and a great camp.

Great job, those little buggers are fun to hunt. Great video, a tripod would hve been nice though. I get excited like that too and it is hard to keep from shaking the camera.

Saturday morning started out with a cup of coffee and a bagel discussing all the big mulies we've been seeing. The sun was starting to crack so we left camp. A little after first light we glass up a 170 class mulie and the stalk is on. Well after a close call, the buck grabbed his does and moved off in the other direction. Matt, Chris, and I are all on the glass again, within minutes we have whitetails and pigs. Plan made, we start the stalk. We see that athe buck is pushing does all over and eventually we see them leave, so we stay on the pigs. During our stalk a smaller buck pushes does to within 30 yds of Chris and I. But no chance of a shot, the does knew we were there and they were blowing at us. So after a few minutes Chris had a pig on the other side of a prickly pear at 10 yds for 15 minutes, with no shot. Finally off to his side another pig came out into the open about 20yds away and took a muzzy behind the shoulder. His pig went about 40yds and piled up. I was quite a bit lower on the hill when i heard the hit, then when they scattered one javelina came down by me. After a little wait and another muzzy behind the shoulder at 20 yds we had a double. Here are a few pictures, I'd like to thank Matt from Borderland Adventures for a great hunt. In the few days I was out with him I saw an amazing amount of bucks, both mulies and coues deer.

Today quail hunting we found a few birds and picked up a fox. It was a super nice day out and the birds were cooperating. If our shooting was a little better there would be more!

Quail Hunting today
jeffcros replied to jeffcros's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Chasing a covey into some steep stuff and the fox walked out in front of me. My brother was higher on the hill and a few rocks thrown later the fox came out of the brush in front of him. High base 7 1/2's worked just fine at 30 yds. -

Opening morning found us on a high point waiting for the sun the come up. As it did we found a few does, and some elk but nothing with horns. So we moved to another spot, then another as it heated up we kept glassing. There was a little break in there for the covey that was calling next to the truck. Nate smoked a couple on the covey rise. Then watched a large pack of javelina for a while. Around lunch time we went to the truck and made some sandwiches and cold drinks. After a little relaxing we went back to glassing. Right before the sun was gone I spotted horns. We were about a mile a way and had to make a run at it. Nate and I took off. We got to where we thought the buck would be and started looking. I found the buck and Nate sat down behind the backpack for a rest. I was asking if he had seen the buck when the rifle went off. There was a unmistakeable thump and the buck disapeared. Nate dropped him in his tracks. It was a great 200 yd shot. The we got down there and took some memory shots. It was a great time.-Jeff
