    Transferring tags to family members

Norm was a great man. I enjoyed spending many hours in the field with him and his son Shane when I was first introduced to archery hunting.

    Change of the Rules

I am 37 and I agree with this. At the minimum I would like to see the Game and Fish make it to where we can donate our tags to the senior hunters in our family just like we can give tags to the junior hunters. I for one would really enjoy giving up an antelope or early bull tag to my dad or my wife's grandfather. To me hunting is about spending time with family and friends and the memories made. To have the opportunity to give back to my dad with a hunt and spend the hunt with him would mean a whole lot more to me than hunting the animal myself. Just my .02 worth.

What is a 133" pick up worth

I have to admit I have turned in several. The biggest was a 330" 6x6 bull. I could clearly see an arrow in it, so I thought it was the right thing to do. We even helped pack it out and believe me it was ripe! The same G&F officer told me of a 370" bull that he had given to a finder that same year. Apparently they found it got tangled in a fence and was gored. At least that is what I remember the story being. I have heard of antlers being taken from guys that in their opinion died of natural causes, but I havent had that kind of experience with the officers. Until the law changes I will continue doing it. Even as hard as it is to give up those antlers.

    Custom Rifle Build

Great post Blake, I have been considering doing much the same as I have 7mm RUM which I really like. But I want to build a .300 RUM as a custom. I would sure appreciate it if you share your info on your build here. Another question. Does anyone know if a .300 win mag action in a remington 700 is buildable into a .300 RUM? I havent even begun to look into what all is involved in a build like this so any info that can be passed on by some of you more experienced rifle builders would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Scott

    7 mag velocity

according to the IMR website: 160 GR. NOS PART IMR IMR 4831 .284" 3.290" 57.0 2707 50,600 PSI 61.0 2858 58,400 PSI However I think most of those were done with a 24" barrel at least that is something I have found with my 7mm RUM and we have increased the velocity quite a bit. Unfortunately the data didnt have your exact bullet but I bet the range of 2707-2858 is low because of your barrel length. Also it would appear that 61grn is max load and 57 grn is the min load.

Brandon got a nice bull. It was hard to see it on my phone. Sounded like a great time.

    dead elk 6x6

I have turned in several nice 320 ish bulls to game and fish. I don't think its all that big of a deal to turn them in. Sure its cool to have a few nice racks that you found but thats the end of it. I would rather have a bull that I shot and hunted with family and friends that I can look up on the wall and have fond memories of. Not that I have a problem with picking up sheds or even a rack if its within the law. This archery season I called in a rack of a 6x6 bull with coordinates, the game warden told me if he found that the bull had died from natural causes he would gladly give me the rack. It had been shot by an archer and lost. I honestly didnt have any problem giving it up though. Granted it wasnt huge, I would say a 310-315 bull. The game warden mentioned that a few years prior a 370ish bull had been called in to him. He found that the bull was actually gored by another bull and tangled in barbed wire. The game warden called the guy up and brought the rack by to his house. I thought that was pretty neat. I realize some folks really like keeping what they find as far as racks go so to each their own. As for a game warden now knowing your "secret spot". Please. Those guys fly the unit and are out there checking water etc more than any of us. I would imagine they have been in the area that you are hunting. Maybe I have just had really good luck with Game and Fish officers in the field. They are always really good to my family and have even spent half a day helping us track an animal. Hopefully I continue to meet nice guys out there. My advice is just stay within the law and do the right thing because it sure isnt worth losing your license over a rack.

    7MM RUM

I am glad that it worked out for you. Looks like a nice group. Sorry I didnt get the exact load data for you. I have been out of town quite a bit lately. I will ask my dad in the morning and try to post it. I think it is a great rifle and caliber. While out of town I was in Wyoming. I always wonder what will happen if I forget my ammo on an out of state hunt because this isnt a popular round. So in Wyoming I stopped by several stores, fly fishing and walmarts to see what they had available. I was amazed at the ammo selections at all of the stores. They had a better selection than anywhere here in Tucson. Heck Walmart even had reloading supplies in Laramie. If I had not been flying I would have stocked up a bit. Just an fyi my buddy is shooting the same powder in his .300 RUM with great results.
