That is a very nice buck. I love the look of a big buck in velvet! -
The ranch was 90 miles east of san antonio. We didnt have to pay a trophy fee cause we bought the trophy hunt. We figured if we were going all that way it might as well be worth it.

It was an awsome hunt. The scale they had only went to 350 lb and it pegged it out so they guessed it to weigh 450 and the black one my friend shot they guessed to be about 550 lb. It was a rush cause we had just eaten lunch and we had been up all night sitting in a stand so we were taking a little nap and the guide came busting in and said we need to leave now. So we grabbed our stuff and headed out. Shortly after we left we spoted these two, my friend shot his in the chest and it dropped. Mine took off so i skirted anound and shot. It was a good shot but it didnt go down so i kept following it and got another good shot on the other side but the bad boy still didnt go down however it wasnt moving very fast by now. so i took another shot and the thing finaly went down. We looked at it and my first 2 shots were right in the kill spot and i was using a lever action 357 with 158 grain bullets and it took 3 to drop it. It was exciting but those are one tough animal!!

I love hunting the wilderness area but we dont hike in we take horses and pack horses. That makes it nice because we can ride in 10 miles and not kill ourselves doing it. We usualy set up a base camp and then hunt from there. It is so nice to get away from everyone and the solitude is so nice to. so if you have access to some pack animals you wont be dissapointed!

Im brand new to this sight, so this is my first post. This was my first coues with my bow. Me and a friend packed in with horses about a day to a very remote area. it was about a 20 yard shot, spot and stock. I feel kind of lucky because when i released the deer jumped and the broadhead hit it in the butt. However, it hit an arterie and I found it less then 100 yards from the shot. we had a great time and am glad to harvest my first deer with my bow. it will be long wait till next year but I finally got one with my bow. My buddy also harvest a buck and here is a photot.

We left the cape on just to keep the meat clean. It was a good thing we did because the pack horse fell off a cliff and the hide helped to protect the meat. But i shot my deer and gutted it then it hung in the tree for 3 days. I didn't skin it and i didn't loose any meat. It also tasted great, no game tast at all. My buddy's deer tasted great also. The weather helped a ton also. It wasn't freezing but got very cold. Now this is also the first of january. There is no way i would leave the hide on that long with it hot that would definatly spoil the meat or make it gamie tasting. i hope that answered your question. draggingnuts
