Would you sell the tripod separately?
-
are you sure on that? it says centerfire, and 22 mag. is a centerfire. so where does it say you can not use it on deer? deserthntr, Could you have confused the 22 mag with the 222 Remington Magnum which is a centerfire and legal for deer? Bill

Last Thursday night at the Southern Arizona Wildlife Callers meeting Bonnie Swarbrick of the Buenos Aires Wildlife Refuge gave a presentation to the club. She left hunting regulations with a map included for the refuge. In the Seasons and Permits section of the map it talks of feral hogs, "You may hunt feral hog during big game seasons. Each hunter must possess and carry a valid hunting license and big game permit for the season in progress. There is no bag limit." Bill

The Arizona Predator Callers have set their hunt schedule for 2008 - 2009. The Multi Club Hunt is scheduled for January 17, 2009, the 3rd weekend in January, FYI. I'll be attending their event. Good Luck. Bill

The Multi Club Hunt was January 12, 2008. This year the date will be determined by the Arizona Predator Callers, this years winning club and host for 2009. It could be as late as November of this year before a date and location is set. Bill

.17 Remington loads
Bill replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I too am loading for the .17 Remington but as of yet I don’t have a load worked up. These sub calibers for me have created some problems. I recently reloaded for a new to me, CZ 527 Varminter in 204 Ruger. I duplicated the load that had previously shot well in this rifle. The powder was Reloader 10, a short grained cylindrical powder. Trying to get the powder to flow through the 20 caliber funnel was way too much time and trouble. Eventually I got all 100 cases charged. Since I was also planning to reload my 17 Remington for fox and bobcat I knew that cylindrical powders were out of the questions since I had such a difficult time loading for the 204. The sources for my 17 were from the Hodgson reloading magazine and site or from The Sensational Seventeen’s by Todd A. Kindler, available at www.woodchuckden.com. I selected 760 ball powder hoping it would flow easily through the 17 caliber funnel. It did! I loaded just enough cartridges to test for pressure signs. As of yet I have not shot those test loads. Hopefully soon I’ll know the pressure limits for 760 and can the fine tune for accuracy. I wish I had a proven load I could recommend but don’t, hopefully soon. Good Luck -
I'd be interested if it was held in cooler weather. Bill

I maintain memberships in 3 clubs, Southern Arizona Wildlife Caller SAWC, Arizona Predator Callers APC and Phoenix Varmint Callers PVCI. Living in Tucson I can't participate in the APC or PVCI activities but I do get their montlhly newsletters which both are excellent.

To my knowledge there is no caliber restriction for big game, center fire rifle. The 17 would be legal for all rifle big game hunts.

That's a nice lookng rig. It will be great for predators. It is legal for javalina, "center fire rifle". Good Luck

Varmint Calling/Predator Hunting
Bill replied to huntallday's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The calls that I prefer that are closed reed cottontail and jack rabbit calls include: the hard camo rubber bodied Sceery Call line, Johnny Stewart ‘s PC 1 and PC3, the now discontinued wooded Modern Calls and Dan Thompson’s calls. For open reed calls I like the Crit’R Call line of Major Boddicker’s, the Pee Wee, Standard or copies of the Pee Wee by other manufactures which used different reeds to be cow elk calls. Tal Lockwood has reshaped the Tally Ho which is now easier to use. The bite type calls such as Sceery Variable Predator call AP-6 or any of the similar constructed calls by other manufacture’s are excellent calls except they are prone to quit working because the will collect saliva and lock up the reed. Turning the call around and blowing through the other end sometime temporally fixes the problem, otherwise a disassembly and wiping down the interior of the mouth piece is required. There are several howlers I like: Major Boddicker’s Song Dog and Song Dog Jr., the older model wooden Lohman howler which I unfortunately lost. The Standard and Pee Wee calls can be pressed into service as howlers also. The calls currently on my lanyard are the Dan Thompson Weems Replica and cottontail call, a Johnny Stewart cow call, a Standard Crit’R call. I can recommend www.allpredatorcalls.com as a source for all things predator related. Their selection and service are outstanding. Bill -
A friend of mine was telling me about a mule deer he shot this year in 37B in the Willow Springs area. From what he described it is the same or simular to what is pictured. He talked with Game and Fish and they said it was probalby firomas papileloma or some such thing. He said the state of Michigan had done a lot of research on it, it seems to be a more frequant occurance there. Here is a link, looks simular to the pictures. http://www.mdwfp.com/wildlifeissues/articl...amp;article=115 Bill

Getting tougher to find wildlife managers
Bill replied to Diamondbackaz's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Rembrant I agree with you whole heartedly. Since the creation of the department, commission and wildlife mangers the the habitat, wildlife and hunting opportunities have improved over the previous system. Those that protest the loudest and paint with a broad brush raise the most suspision. Bill -
Your welcome. Good Luck with the bears. Bill

The Arizona Game & Fish Department publishes annually their Survey, Harvest and Hunt Data for Big & Small Game. They can be purchased at the Regional offices and cost either $5 or $10, I don?t recall. It lists survey, harvest and hunt data for the last 5 years by unit and lists all historical data state wide. From the 2005 Edition it lists sport harvests in unit 32: 16 in 2000, 6 in 2001, 12 in 2002, 6 in 2003, 4 in 2004. Bill

az4life, Your welcome. recurveman, I too am not an expert. I know that in recent years the Land Dept. has been more aggressive in collecting fees for activities that had previously been over looked. The Land Dept. is the only agencey that states on their State Trust Land signs that target shooting is not allowed, at least that I know of. It seems to be a common misconception that Sate Trust Land is public land. Bill
