I've tested the Wac'em heads with a Hooter Shooter (shooting machine) out to 110 yards to evaluate arrow flight. Out of all the heads I tested (including mechanical), the Wac'em was the most consistent and as close to field points as I've found (within 1/2" at 90 yards). There were several others that were flew consistent as well, including the ST standard, Exodus, Shuttle T's, and several mechanicals. However, the best over flight was the Wac'em.......it's why I shoot them.

Some good info shared here.....I'll just add a few. Learn deer behavior and their alert tendencies (it helps) Use bears feet or Carlton Cat Paws to quiet your boots if you are not removing your boots on final approach (100 yards less) Be patient. The only that is going to scare the buck off is YOU Plan the correct route (wind permitting) and always allow proper shooting lanes Remember, even with some of the best bowhunters out West, probably 2 out of 10 stalks are successful. That means they fail 80% of the time. I just got back from AZ, hunting the end of December and into January. Stalks just seemed to work out this trip.....I was three for three on stalks (2 deer, javelina).......that has never happened in over 35 years of bowhunting.

Gorgeous buck......congratulations!

Good on you bonecollector for your latest post! While I can't produce a photo of the buck in question, I can confirm that big ol' bucks are taken every so often in the low desert units and not really advertised......if ever. I can still recall the morning my hunting partner and I hunted this big ol' desert buck and he was able to put arrow through his chest at 15 yards! The buck officially measured in the low 190's, I believe. Not sure if I ever posted this photo much.......but it gives us something to look at.

You should have seen some of the giants in that unit in the late 80's to early 90's......amazing desert bucks. Last time I seriously scouted it (4 years ago) I was highly disappointed and moved to a few neighboring units. Good luck.....

Here's a good link on bowhunting the Kaibab plateau that may be of use. It's a beautiful and at times, a magical place. Good luck and have fun! http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/32500-how-do-you-hunt-the-kaibab/

Do yourself a favor and call Kory Bundy from At First Light Outfitters. He and his dad know that country VERY well and have a ranch in the middle of the Strip. They will work something out with you and it will be thousands less than the "other" guides on the mountain. His number is 435-668-8063

BOHNTR replied to Dave_D's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
The 28th recording book was given out to all attendees. It has all of the animals recorded in the last two years as well as the top animals sent to panel and their respective measurements. Is there something I can look up for you? -
Pope and Young 2013 National Convention in Dallas April Next Weekend
BOHNTR replied to Dave_D's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
You boys missed an awesome time in Dallas, Texas. Had a great time at the convention, even if I had a ton of meetings and "tasks" to do while I was there. Wish you would of made it Marvin, we could have used the help! Missed a good meeting too! Absolutely no excuses for you boys and girls not to attend now, as the 2015 P&Y Convention will be in Phoenix, Arizona. I hope to see all of you there and share some good times. It will be nice to be able to put some faces with their respective screen handles here. -
Ward's Outfitters 2013 Starting Out Great.

Awesome year, Steven! See you in Dallas in April. -
Good looking buck, congratulations!

What you're describing is actually above the spinal cord and through the back straps. Beyond popular belief, there is absolutely no "void" between the spine and the lungs in any mammal. For those in the medical field and anatomy, they can confirm this for you. Remember, the spinal cord can be 4-5" below the top of the deer's back.....many don't realize that. Based on what you're describing, I would say you where a bit high and hit him through the back straps. I've been there and done that. If that's where you hit, the deer will survive and be unaffected.

That's AWESOME, Nick. That's a heck of a forked horn too! You did well, amigo, congratulations.
