It has not been stripped......it is unclear, at this time, if it will be for panel. The only way it can be crowned the WR is for it to be stripped and panel measured. I hope to see it at a panel. Too late for the upcoming panel in two weeks, but if he decides to strip the velvet, a special panel would most likely be made to verify the score. An incredible mule deer.....congratulations to the hunter.

Knew him fairly well.....always spoke with him at P&Y Conventions over the years. Would alsways thank me for my service as a lawman......won’t ever forget that. About 6 years ago he was on the same flight as me, my wife and kids......my son sat next to him......he was great and talked Bowhunting and the importance of school with him the entire flight. Class act for sure.......and IMO wrote the best Bowhunting mule deer book EVER.......will miss you, DS.

I almost hit two in the middle of the highway the other day about 1/2 mile out of Alpine. Neither had collars.......buddy from there said I should have hit the gas pedal. 😎

I had a 330-340” type bull in my field just outside my bedroom door this past year during the muzzy hunt.....dang thing would bugle all night and keep me awake.....he would bugle while bedded! Lazy SOB. 😁 Not sure if he ended up being taken.....if not, he’ll be a dandy this year.

Keep in mind folks, if DNA suggests this animal is a Coues Deer (which is probable, IMO), it can/will be accepted by B&C.......regardless of the length of some gland.

Nice buck! Congratulations
-
No sir, you ARE incorrect.

Unless the 'biologist' took a DNA sample and confirmed a 'Hybrid' than NOTHING is certain, at this point. Time will tell I guess, but until then I'm enjoying the fact we have some serious hybrid biologists of our own right here on CWT.

Looks like a Coues to me

Ed (BOWUNTR) is the current Record's Chairman for the Pope and Young Club. Marvin (Stickflker) and I are also official measurers for P&Y and B&C. As Ed stated, mounted trophies can be measured. I've measured many mounted trophies over the years.....nothing too invasive, IMO. As suggested, have the animal measured BEFORE any repair to the main beam.....even if it is just to fill in a chip. This ensures that no alterations have been made and does not bring question as to the integrity of the antlers. In order for broken points to be utilized, the hunter MUST have the broken portion of the point in their possession and it must CONVINCINGLY fit back together by the measurer at time of measurement. If repaired by the taxidermist BEFORE official measure, the point can only be taken to the original break line. Hope it helps.

That’s awesome....congratulations!

Man, good thing I'm in the desert chasing deer.......looks like I'd have trouble getting my trailer back in the garage!

What a season, Houston! The best one is your son’s, IMO......a good looking buck for that young man. Kudos to you, my friend....not an easy feat to achieve.

G&F told me today that MOST retail stores have not ordered their licenses and tags to sell, as they don’t want to sell them until the 1st so they can charge the new retail fee. My buddies are picking theirs up directly from F&G on the 31st on their way over. I got mine at the G&F office in Pinetop after SW advised they couldn’t sell them until January 1st. Better at the G&F Office anyways.....no fee charges. 😁
